Fallout New Vegas: Chronicles of the Legion's Regime

The Doctor is in

Even a dictator needs to look out for his health and Caesar asked Six to be his physician. Unfortunately, Six wouldn't always be around so she instructed Arcade to tend to him which he did grudgingly but only because Six said so.

"As much as I'd love to tend to your medical needs Caesar, I'm afraid that my schedule wouldn't allow me to do it everyday." Six said while Arcade is doing checkups on Caesar.

"So have this Arcade be my physician." Caesar ordered but Six shook her head.

"I don't think he'll like that but I'll ask my brother Mercedes if he can be your physician."

Caesar sighed but allowed it. "See that you do."

Six ordered Arcade. "Okay Arcade, I think your checkups done. Follow me."

Caesar head Arcade sigh in relief as he grabbed his kit and walked to Six's side, the man didn't spare him a glance and Caesar could tell from the dislike and maybe fear.

Inside the Lucky 38 Presidential Suite, Six asked her brother who was in the clinic area to be Caesar's physician.

Mercedes smiled and shrugged. "Well sis, if you want me to be the slave physician to a tyrant I'll gladly do it. But I'm doing this for you not for him."

Arcade become slightly concerned as he asked Mercedes as he prepared his kit. "Aren't you a little worried that Caesar might abuse you or something?"

Mercedes shrugged. "I can handle myself. It's not the first time I had to deal with someone unpleasant."

They went back to the Fort where Six brought her brother to Caesar and said. "My brother here is going to be your physician."

Mercedes introduced himself. "Hello, my name is Evan Washington. Now name Mercedes Goodwin. I am here at my sister's request to serve to your health needs. If there's anything that bothers you, please let me know."

Caesar raised an eyebrow and asked. "What kind of a name is Mercedes? Isn't that a female name?"

Mercedes replied. "It's a way for me to throw off my pursuers in the Republic. As for the name, I just like it."

Six said to her brother. "I'll be leaving now. If Caesar goes violent on you, let me know."

Mercedes smiled at his sister. "Don't worry sis, I can take care of myself." Six nodded and left.

When they're finally comfortable in Caesar's quarters, Caesar would have him take his temperature and health status. Though he had to ask the tyrant's permission to get a servant and with Arcade's recommendation had Siri.

Now the woman stood in front of the tent where Mercedes waited for him.

"So can you tell me your name if we're going to be acquainted?" Mercedes asked.

"My name is Siri sir." Siri said meekly.

He replied gruffly. "Do I look like a sir to you? I'm not a soldier and you're not part of the army. Now step forward."

"Yes sir..doctor Mercedes." Siri said a little confidently at being treated as an equal.

Mercedes interviewed. "So what kind of medical training do you have?"

"I only know basic first aid like Healing Powders. I never get to finish my training when the Legion invaded my home. The Followers of the Apocalypse taught me in the Fort but it isn't much." Siri explained.

Mercedes looked up at the sky and said in amusement. "'Basic first aid'. Lord help me.." He looked at Siri and said. "Don't worry, I'll be able to find a use for you. Come inside Caesar's tent. I'll teach you how to handle medical equipment."

And with that, Siri served as Mercedes' nurse as she was taught what medical tools to use and how to sterilize them. Caesar found a kindred spirit in Mercedes as he was the only person besides his sister to stand up to him and challenge his beliefs by asking. It honestly is a breath of fresh air for Caesar.

Caesar complained about Mercedes' treatment. Such as the fact that he had made Caesar take a strict diet, Caesar threatened to call in the Praetorian Guard but Mercedes pointed out that it can help him live out a long life if that diet is meet. Caesar had to concede.

It also didn't help that Mercedes would make him exercise and threatened to drug his next meal with sleeping drugs. It was amusing to Six to see her own brother drilling the leader of the Legion like a coach in doing exercises in his own Fort.

The third one is that Mercedes asked Caesar if he's well and when Caesar lied to that he isn't, Mercedes quickly called on his bluff by offering to check on his temperature and getting an injection.

And the last time and this is Six's favorite. When Caesar became defiant towards Mercedes' treatment, Mercedes threatened to serve him prune juice which made Caesar pale and just take his diet and do his exercise much to the surprise of everyone including Lanius who didn't expect their leader to be defeated by one blind doctor.

Six explained to Arcade inside the 38. "Prune juice is for old people and this old person doesn't like to be reminded that he isn't getting any younger."

Arcade commented. "Fascinating way of handling things. I'm just happy that your brother is able to stand up to Caesar like he did."

Six rolled her eyes and said. "Had it not been for me, you would've gone in my brother's place. Just stay on my good side and you'll do fine."

Arcade glared at her. "So you told that courier before you about my Enclave heritage?"

Six cooly said. "If you'd prefer I can just recall my brother here and you can be Caesar's physician in his place."

Arcade backed down. "No, no. I'm good thanks."

Arcade is just grateful that Mercedes is a fully qualified physician and can fix any injuries. Adding to the fact that he's a Follower of the Apocalypse is a nice bonus.
