Not the right lifestyle- part 2
Heather asked for a oneshot ofa sequel to Ch2269 "Not the right lifestyle" where a year later, they finally defeat Regina and George but little Emma's not used to the big castle or having to be a princess. She refuses to go to her first Ball until her daddy talks to her about it.
"NO!" Charming heard someone scream from the other end of the corridor. He grimaced. That definitely came from Emma's room. Snow was in there helping Emma get ready for her first ever ball. Or at least, she was meant to be. If that scream was anything to go by, all was not going well.
Snow and Charming had finally regained control of their kingdom, which meant Emma moving into the palace with them. They knew it was a big adjustment for the little girl. She went from moving around every few days to one permanent, massive home. She went from learning from her parents and their friends to being taught more boring lessons in a stuffy room by tutor. She didn't see her parents as much, either. Sure, there were plenty of benefits to this new life, but they understood it was a lot for a five-year-old to take in. Charming debated pretending he hadn't heard her and letting Snow soldier on, but he knew that wasn't fair. She clearly needed support.
Charming walked into Emma's nursery to find that, sure enough, Emma was refusing to allow her mother to put her dress on.
"Come on Em. You're going to look so pretty…"
"I said no!" Emma screamed, falling to the floor and banging her fists off it.
"Woh there." Charming said, coming in and scooping up a flailing Emma off the ground. He sat on her bed with Emma on his lap. Snow looked at them both, at a loss for what to do. She just didn't understand.
"I've got this just now." Charming told her. "You go finish getting ready. I'll call you back when she needs her hair done." Charming said. Snow smiled gratefully, heading out of the room.
"Hey," Charming called. Snow turned around. Charming smiled at her. "You look beautiful already." He called over Emma's wails. Snow gave him a heart-warming smile before leaving to finish getting ready herself. Charming then settled back on Emma's bed with her still crying into his shirt.
"Ok, little one, take as long as you need. We'll talk when you're calm." He told her, rubbing soothing circles on her back. After a few minutes, Emma's crying slowly stopped. "Ok, why don't you use your words and tell daddy what the problem is?" He asked her.
"Don't want to wear a stupid dress." Emma sniffled.
"Well that's not a very nice thing to say, mommy put a lot of effort into getting you that dress." Charming gently told her. Emma stayed silent, hiccupping every so often. "What's wrong with the dress? Do you not like it? Because I agree with mommy, I think you'll look really pretty in it." Charming tried to encourage her. Emma shook her head, putting her thumb in her mouth. "You don't?" He asked. Emma shook her head again. "Aw baby, why not?"
"Everyone will laugh at me." Emma sniffled. "I don't know how to be a princess in a dress." Charming sat up with Emma perched on his knee.
"Aw baby girl. Everyone who is coming tonight are our friends. Nobody is going to laugh at you. They'll all think the same as mommy and daddy. They'll all think you look super pretty. But I'll think you look the prettiest." Charming told her, flicking her nose. Emma giggled, looking up at him.
"You will?" She asked. Charming nodded, kissing her forehead.
"Always." He promised her. He then set Emma back down on the floor. "Now, what do you say we surprise mommy by getting you into your super pretty dress?" Charming suggested. Emma nodded enthusiastically.
"That's my girl." Charming praised her, getting the dress and helping her into it. He knew Emma was struggling with some of the more public parts of being a royal, but she would get there in the end. It was just going to take a little patience.
