Fallout New Vegas: Chronicles of the Legion's Regime

Chaos in the Mojave

While back at Zion, the New Canaanites settled down and began evangelizing the tribes of Zion to their faith. It was going well for the most part as there are no White Legs to deter their peace. The Sorrows and the Dead Horses are communicating and sharing each other's techniques and supplies.

But no word came from Daniel as he said that he was going with a Happy Trails Caravan to visit his family. The caravan in question said that he went missing as they are leaving the Mojave.

Joshua Graham becomes worried as no word came from his scouts of Daniel's presence so he decided to face his greatest challenge yet and enter the Mojave Wasteland. Follows-Chalk decided to accompany him along with an equally worried Waking Cloud.

They made it out of the Northern Passage where they saw Legion patrols everywhere. It's through stealth that they didn't notice. They saw Ulysses, ED-E and Rex.

Ulysses seemed surprised as he said. "Graham. I didn't expect you to come to the Mojave. I assume that it is very important?"

Joshua replied. "If it's possible to speak to the Courier? I'm willing to assume that she knows what I seek."

Ulysses nodded then turned to ED-E. Immediately Six's voice spoke. "Have you arrived to Jacobstown Ulysses?"

"Not yet but you're not going to believe this. Joshua Graham is here in the Mojave."

A silence came for five seconds then Six spoke. "Joshua Graham is in the Mojave? Did I hear you right?"

"I assure you that it's true. He's here right now speaking to me."

"Let me guess, he's looking for Daniel. That's what's the recent topic is all about."

Ulysses looked at Graham who nodded then the former said. "Yes, I believe that his purpose for coming here."

Hearing a sigh from the eyebot's speaker, Six ordered. "Very well. If Joshua's hearing this, tell him to meet me at my hotel room at Novac. I'll explain everything." They signal cut off then ED-E regained control.

Ulysses turned to Graham and told him. "You heard what she said. Head from here to the 188 Trading Post. Keep walking and you'll see a dinosaur landmark."

Joshua said. "Thanks for the help."

Ulysses replied. "A word of warning. Legion patrols are everywhere and they will attack you on sight." Graham nodded and Ulysses left.

The three followed the man's directions while discreetly avoiding legion patrols. They made it to Novac where they asked Cliff Bruscoe where Six's hotel room is.

They arrived and they beheld a woman with her bonnet and a red dress. She made her introduction. "Welcome to my humble abode. I'd prefer it be on my Suite but this'll have to do. You have questions, I have answers."

Joshua decided to get straight to the point. "Where is Daniel? Do you know what happened to him?"

"He's at Cottonwood Cove, being prepared for transport to the Fort. From what Ulysses told me, the man evangelized the wrong people and he got beaten bloody for it." Six answered, though that's all she knew so far.

Waking Cloud glared at Six. "What did you do to him?! How dare your brethren imprisoned him!?"

Six shot back. "I had nothing to do with that. I was with Veronica visiting the Brotherhood at Hidden Valley when that happened."

Waking Cloud demanded. "Can you free Daniel?"

"I cannot. Doing so will make me look weak in the eyes of the Legionnaires."

Waking Cloud stomped forward and got into Six's face. "You betrayed us!? Daniel is also your friend and you leave him to suffer!?"

Six pushed her back with her palm and fired back. "I didn't betray any of you. I can do nothing for Daniel because it's not my business to get involved."

Waking Cloud became irate and shouted. "The Father would be ashamed of you for letting his children be abused! You shouldn't let such a good man suffer like that!"

Six narrowed her eyes and said. "In case you didn't know Waking Cloud, you're in the Mojave Wasteland, not Zion. Your beliefs don't apply here and the general rule for any Wasteland is to kill or be killed. And I'd rather be alive than risk my neck."

Waking Cloud became enraged as she attempted to swipe Six with her Yao Guai gauntlet. Only for Six to block it and did a Ranger Takedown while pointing the tip of her Orange Lightsaber.

Joshua sighed and said. "Okay, that's enough unnecessary violence."

Six looked at Joshua and turned off her Lightsaber. Follows-Chalk asked. "Can you help us rescue Daniel?"

"I can't do so directly but I can give you supplies that you might need for the journey. I need you to head towards Boulder City and meet Veronica inside. She'll give you weapons, ammo, food, you name it. Head towards Sniper's Shack and meet Christine. I had her spying on Cottonwood Cove for some time."

Follows-Chalk asked. "Where are those locations exactly?"

"From here, keeping walking north and right of the 188 Trading Post. It's a ruined city there. As for the Sniper's shack, walk south of here then pass through the recently purified Camp Searchlight then look up to your left and when you see the crosses."

Joshua said. "My thanks for this information. I promise you that we won't be long here."

Six nodded then warned. "One last thing before you leave: if you get caught, I can't afford to be connected with you. Remember that before you do anything stupid." Graham nodded.

Waking Cloud got up and asked. "Why couldn't you just aid us? Are you not a friend to Daniel?"

Six let out a frustrated sigh as she said. "Have you not been listening? I can't. I don't want to risk being involved with the Burned Man. It'd be a death wish if it does. As for Daniel, I can't do anything for him as it isn't my business."

Waking Cloud pointed out. "Daniel would be ashamed of you for not coming to his hour of need."

Six replied. "I'm sorry you and him feel that way but my hands are tied. I need to look out for myself."

Graham said. "That's enough Waking Cloud. Let us leave now."

Six called out. "If anybody asks, this meeting never took place." Graham nodded then the three of them left Six's hotel room.

They followed the directions and when they went inside Boulder City, they found Veronica who provided them with food, ammo and weapons. She directed them to her girlfriends Christine. They traveled discreetly and found Sniper's Shack. They saw a bald scarred woman looking at them.

Needless to say, it scared Follows-Chalk and Waking Cloud but it didn't faze Joshua as he saw her point to a pair of binoculars while she aimed her Gauss Rifle. Graham took it and Christine said. "There's your Daniel. See him? He's kept in a holding pen. He scheduled to be transported tomorrow."

"And to be presented to Caesar." Joshua finished. Christine nodded.

"Their leader is Aurelius of Phoenix. You're going to have to retrieve the key from Canyon Runner if you want to free your friend. I'll provide cover for you as best as I can but when something bad hits the fan, you're on your own." Christine said, aiming through the scope of her rifle.

Joshua replied. "Understood. We'll make it work."

Joshua came up with a plan and had Follow-Chalk and Waking Cloud argue about something that made the Decanus in question investigate. Joshua knocked the leaders unconscious while Christine sniped their heads off. Using Stealth Boys and camouflage, they make their way to the Cove and pick pocketed the key off of Canyon Runner. Christine is sniping unsuspecting Legionnaires while the three freed Daniel who looked like he had seen better days and carried him away from his cell.

Suddenly Christine arrived to them and shouted. "You've been made! An Explorer managed to sound the alarm and every Legionnaire available is gunning out for you! Everyone recognizes you but they're scrambling to organize their armies so you have a fifteen minute window to get out of Cottonwood Cove as fast as you can! As for me, I'm bailing out! I can't afford to risk my neck for you guys."

"My thanks for this assistance." Graham said seeing Christine nod then she disappeared.

Follows-Chalk carried Daniel while Joshua and Waking Cloud ran to Camp Searchlight then to 188 Trading Post. Legion squads catch up to them but Joshua easily shot them down with his pistol, Light in Shining Darkness. One assassin tried to shoot at them but his head got impaled by a throwing spear. They tried to run through Camp McCarran but they saw a heavy Legion checkpoint and decided to take the long route to Vegas.

They ran into the Cassidy-Barton Caravans Headquarters where they saw Cass talking to Raul. When Waking Cloud readied her spear, Cass shouted to them. "Hey guys, get inside the compound! I'm a friend!"

They all went inside where Cass told Raul. "Hey Raul, do me a favor and keep and eye outside."

When Raul left, Cass turned to Joshua. "You guys are lucky it was me who found you, the others won't be so forgiving. Look, I don't care why you're here, just get out of the Mojave and I'll pretend I never saw you."

Joshua nodded. "My thanks, Miss Cassidy. You are a true friend of the Courier." Cass nodded then pointed to the exit of her compound.

Cass expressed. "For what's its worth, I'm sorry for what happened with your friend Daniel. I saw what happened to him but I couldn't do anything since the Legion did him in. Once of them centurions was out of control. But I know you're a good man, you didn't do anything to deserve this. Just go, get out of here."

Joshua nodded then replied. "Thank you for your condolences." Then he and his group left.

Raul reported. "Those Legionnaires didn't know you had the Burned Man in your compound."

Cass just let out a breath. "Good."

Joshua's group ran all they way to the Northern Passage but the Legionnaires set up an ambush near the Cassidy Caravans wreckage and threw Plasma Grenades at them (don't ask). It separated Joshua from his companions and he found himself face to face with ten Centurions looking at him and ready to take his head off.

One charged at him but Graham dodged the Thermal Lance and pistol whipped him hard. He did a barrel roll and shot another in the head. Once charged at him but he evaded that Centurion and used him as a human shield, causing him to easily get shot by his comrades. Joshua shot three more in the heads and reloaded. Joshua saw more shooting at him but he keenly aimed at their eyes and emptied an entire clip on their faces, killing them all. As for the pistol whipped one, he was about to say 'True to Caesar' but Graham didn't let him finish his phase by shooting him in the head.

Graham couldn't find his companions throughout the smoke and was briefly knocked down by a Legion mine he didn't notice. He saw a female hand extend to him and he took it, lifting him up.

It was Courier Six.

But she smiled at him and whispered. "Trust me."

Graham saw Follows-Chalk and Waking Cloud, hands behind their heads and two Recruits pointing their Hunting Rifles at them. Waking Cloud asked. "What is happening friend?"

Six's radio spoke through her Pip-Boy. "Courier Six. Have you captured the Burned Man and his companions?"

Six replied. "Negative. Decimus and Sextus are K.I.A."

Decimus asked his partner. "What?"

Then all of a sudden, they were both gunned down by Ulysses using his 12.7 Submachine gun.

Six spoke to Graham. "I better make this quick. I don't know why Daniel did what he did and I never got the chance. Just head to the Northern Passage and I'll blow the entrance with explosives to give you a head start."

Waking Cloud demanded. "Why should we trust you?"

Six cooly replied. "If I would, I could just let the Legionnaires kill you and I'll get the bounty myself but moving on, Joshua, this is goodbye. And I hope that you never have to come here again."

Joshua made a tired sigh. "Indeed. You've been trustworthy and I thank you. May the Lord bless you and support you in your trials." They shook hands and they left for Northern Passage. They heard a loud noise behind them as they journeyed to Zion.

When Daniel woke up, he discovered that he was in the Sorrows Camp where Waking Cloud told him what happened while he was unconscious.

Six and Ulysses got away from being punished by lying to Caesar that it was the two Recruits' fault that Joshua slipped away, leaving the part that Six betrayed them and Ulysses killed them. Six also made sure that Centurion who contacted her disappeared and blamed it on the Scorpions.
