Chapter 30

When Kagome came out of Sango's she noticed the taxi was gone. And there was no sign of InuYasha either. A thousand thoughts ran through her mind at that moment. And the first one was. 'H-He left me?...' Her body went numb and the medium sized box in her hands, now felt like it weighed a ton. Her eyes filled with tears and in that moment the gravity around her crushed her. She fell to her knees as she cried harder than she had ever cried. It was at this time Sango had returned home along with Miroku. In a matter of seconds Sango was embracing her sobbing friend. Both Sango and Miroku looked at each other greatly confused and deeply worried.

It was Sango who was the first to say something, as she took the box from her broken friend and handed it to Miroku. "It's okay Kagome, me and Miroku are here. Let's just go inside and I'll make you some tea or whatever you'd like." As Miroku took the box from Sango, his eyes met hers. They said nothing, but somehow Miroku knew just what Sango was thinking. "Miroku, if you don't mind. I'll take care of Kagome, would you mind…"

"No need to say another word my dear Sango." Miroku said, setting down the box inside the house. "I'll see what I can do my dear and be safe, both of you." He told her, then kissed her cheek before leaving.

Sango sighed, as she looked at her best friend. She knew something happened between her and InuYasha, but what? She took Kagome to the couch and helped her sit. As Sango left Kagome cry, she rubbed her back lightly in a circular motion. She didn't know what to say to help her friend feel better and she didn't want to ask before Kagome was ready to tell her. "Would you like some tea, Kagome? I was planning on making some when I got home." Kagome sniffed a few times then nodded "yes" as she wiped her tears away.

Sango hesitated, but soon decided it was best to let her friend be and went to prepare the tea she offered. Even now Sango was finding it hard to know how to help her best friend. First it was Koga and his awful behavior and now it was InuYasha. 'I honestly hope he didn't just abandon her, but I fear that might be the case. Hopefully Miroku can find him and talk some sense into him.' There was a knock at the door which caused Sango's thoughts to stop. she finished filling the tea pot as she called. "I'll be there in a second!"

Miroku was starting to feel like he was looking for a needle in the haystack. "What the hell was I thinking? Did I honestly think I'd just so happen to take a walk and InuYasha would pop out from nowhere?" He was starting to think he would've been better off staying with the girls. As he turned the next corner he noticed a food cart. 'A little snack won't hurt.' Miroku thought, as he pulled his wallet from his back pocket. He ordered a sandwich and drink, before heading off once more to find InuYasha.

InuYasha had listened to every word Tōtōsai had said to him. And by the end of the day realized that maybe he was wrong about his father. As InuYasha raised the blade of Tessaiga his eyes followed along its length. He felt something stronger this time as he held it. There was a feeling of desire, almost a need that was flowing through him. The old swordsmith smiled which started to anger InuYasha. "What hell are you smiling about, old man?!" He roughly said.

Tōtōsai started to scratch the tip of his nose as if to hide from what he was going to say next. "The sword senses your new desire. You've chosen a female to protect and because of this the sword has connected to this desire. Tell me InuYasha, not because I care, but have you taken this chosen woman by any chance?" InuYasha growled and brought his fist down hard on Tōtōsai's head. The old swordsmith groaned as he covered the lump that now formed on his head from the hit. "Damn brat, what did you do that for?!" Tōtōsai cursed.

"Because it's none of your damn business what I do with a woman!" InuYasha yelled. "Besides I'm not going to see her again ever. It's not safe for her to be around me. If I'm not with Kagome, then Sesshomaru won't come after her and use her as bait to get to me." It was Tōtōsai's turn to hit InuYasha now. "Oww! What the hell?!"

Tōtōsai's face turned cold towards InuYasha and like a father scolding his son, Tōgōsai began. "Just how stupid are you boy? Do you think your enemies will just leave that woman alone? They will now more than ever hunt her down. No InuYasha, she is in more danger now than ever. So you'd be wise and listen to the sword in your hands." InuYasha sighed, he knew it was a mistake from the beginning to get involved with any woman. "Tell me InuYasha, did you listen to anything I just told you about your father? You act like no one has ever fallen in love. Or has ever suffered in love, no InuYasha your mother and father struggled everyday with the chance of being caught."

InuYasha knew the old swordsmith was right, which only added to his frustration. A thought of Kagome made his heartbeat faster which made the Tessaiga pulsate in his hand. 'Well it looks like I'm not going to get out of this one.' InuYasha thought as he sheathed his sword and watched as it transformed into a small dagger. "Well old man I can't say you were much help, but at least I know what needs to be done. And it looks like I have a lot to look forward to."

After Kagome was able to regain her composure, she started to go over the events that happened in her head. 'I...I just don't understand it, why did he just leave? Was this his plan all along, to get close and just break my heart all over again? Is he still unsure about his feelings for me?' It was after she asked herself these question, Kagome heard a knock. She hesitated, but secretly hoped it just might be…. Kagome heard Sango say she'd be there in a second, but decided she would get the door instead. However….

"Well look who it is, so nice to see you again." Kagome's body froze, she wanted to scream but her voice was gone. She wanted to run, but felt like her feet were nailed to the floor. "What I wasn't the one you were expecting, Kagome?" She swallowed hard, but still she couldn't speak. "Damn, I've never seen you this quiet before bitch. But then it's been awhile since we've been face to face."

Turning yet another corner, Miroku still hadn't had any luck finding InuYasha. "Damn, I can't keep walking like this. Too bad I don't have InuYasha's nose to track him down." However when he turned the next corner he saw the very person or Hanyou he'd been looking for. He quickly ran towards him. "InuYasha, thank god I finally found you. I don't think I could walk another block."

InuYasha rolled his eyes at his now breathless friend who was hunched over trying to catch his breath. "Seriously, you're winded after that little run? Damn you're pathetic Miroku, now care to explain why you're looking for me? I don't need you to walk me home you know." It was while InuYasha was insulting Miroku a scent came to him. And before he could react a car zoomed past them. A deep hateful growl left his lips. "Koga, that son of a bitch has Kagome!"
