The C word- part 3

A guest asked for a oneshot of a 3rd instalment carrying on from Ch861 "The C word- part 2" where Henry and Emma spend some time together and talk about her illness. He's very protective over her. Trigger warning: This chapter deals with cancer. If that is upsetting to you in any way, you might want to skip this chapter.

If you're wanting a new instalment of a story, could you please try to make sure you give me the most up to date instalment as the reference in your request so I know where I'm follow from? Thanks :).

Henry hated seeing his mother like this. She was so weak, so fragile. She looked so different without her long blonde waves. He wasn't allowed to see her as often, since he was still at school and had more germs on him. But on a Sunday evening, he was brought up by his grandparents to see her. Emma tried to be strong for Henry during these visits, but when she felt so poorly it wasn't always that easy. She would try and play a board game with him, when she felt up to it. When she didn't, they'd just sit and chat. Today was a sitting and chatting kind of day.

"When do you get to come home?" Henry asked, unable to prevent himself from asking any longer. "I miss you." Emma smiled weakly, reaching over and squeezing Henry's hand. He hated how cold and bony her hand felt.

"I'm doing my best here, kid." Emma told him. "I can't go home until I've finished this round and my platelets are up. I know it's hard, but I promise you I'll be home as soon as I can."

"What if you don't get better though?" Henry asked, unable to even look at her. Emma frowned. She had been wondering when he would ask her that.

"Hey." Emma said. She waited until he looked at her. "Kid, I'm gonna get well again. I've got too much to lose."

"Lots of people who have cancer have too much to lose." Henry pointed out. He wasn't meaning to scare his mom, he was just scared himself. He needed reassurance.

"Lots of people aren't me." Emma told him. "I'm going to walk out of this hospital having kicked cancer's butt. I'm coming home to you, kid. I promise." Emma told him. Henry got up and wrapped his arms lightly around her. He was just so scared. Emma held her son back, rubbing soothing circles on his back. She knew he was terrified, she understood why. But she would keep his promise to him. She would come home.
