Chapter 54
Amanda made it through the entire weekend without Olivia seeing the bruises. A couple times she rubbed her or touched her and she tried not to flinch. They were healing, but not fast enough and they almost looked worse than before. She didn't know how she could keep Liv at bay. They headed for work as normal. "Morning all!" Amanda saw Fin and made a beeline for the office. "I'm going to do my work." Amanda tried to concentrate on school and she was way ahead at this point. She heard a knock on the door, "Hey Baby girl!" Fin sat on the desk. "You didn't respond to my text. Guess you still have Liv fooled huh?" Amanda didn't say anything, even though she wanted to tell Fin everything. She was tense, her whole body showed it. Fin didn't like seeing her afraid. It was almost like when they first met. "Amanda, I'm here when you're ready, even if you're afraid I'm here. Breathe! You know we shouldn't lie to Liv right? You know you're putting me in a bad spot right?" Fin patted her back and walked out. Liv caught Fin coming out looking serious, "What's going on? What did she do now?" Fin took a deep breath, "Has she talked to you? Liv I'm not sure about the mark on her face. Something's not right." Olivia looked at Fin, "Did she tell you something?" Fin shook his head, "Just watch her ok?"
Amanda's reminder popped up, she had her monthly therapy session tomorrow. "That's it! I can tell Liv and Dr. Hanover. They can help me together." They both finished work and headed home. Amanda kept taking a bath, hoping the bruises would heal faster. The bath helped her with soreness, but the bruises were still bad. She peeped out of the bedroom and Olivia was on the phone. "Hey come here, I'm on Group FaceTime with the girls. "Hey y'all!" They talked about plans for Thanksgiving. Everyone's last day of work was tomorrow. Olivia looked at the mark on Amanda's face while she was talking to the girls. As it got darker, it looked different. She thought Fin might be right. They said goodnight to the girls. "Liv I have therapy tomorrow, don't forget okay." Olivia shook head and right when she was about to question Amanda about the mark, her work phone went off. Amanda went to the bedroom. "Baby I've got to go in. They need my help." Amanda panicked, "Wait! How long are you going to be gone?" Olivia stopped, "Not sure but it's early." Olivia noticed something was off, Amanda was scared. Amanda knew she couldn't stay by herself, "Liv can I come with you? Please?" Olivia didn't know what this was about. Amanda hadn't followed her to work at night in a month. She got a bad feeling and combined with what Fin put in her head, it wasn't good, but she didn't have time right then to handle it. "Yeah baby. Get changed, but wear joggers or something comfy so you can lay down. I'll pack you snacks in case I'm longer." Olivia texted Cragen that something was up with Amanda, but she was on the way and Amanda was coming as well.
They went to the squad room and everyone looked surprised, Amanda hadn't followed Olivia to work at night in a month. Cragen spoke up, "Hey heard you were on the way. You sure you don't want to be a cop?" Amanda smiled, and headed for her room. They updated Liv on the case at hand and everyone put on their gear. "Alright guys let's get them and enjoy our Thanksgiving." Before they left, "Fin let me check on Amanda so I can have my head in this." Fin went with her and waited by the door, "Hey aren't you tired?" Amanda shook her head yes, "Well close your eyes and go to sleep. The Captain is next door." Amanda unzipped Olivia's police jacket and when she saw the bulletproof vest, she sat up. Fin saw it, Liv saw it and Amanda felt it, fear. They had come all this way and Amanda was right back to the place she was. "Hey, hey, hey. It's just extra protection. I'm gonna be fine. Fin is with me. We'll be back and I will come here as soon as I get back." Amanda hugged Liv and didn't let go and Liv sure as hell wasn't gonna let go first. "Night Liv." She looked at Fin and he mouthed, "I've got her!"
"Liv what the hell was that?" Olivia wiped her eyes, upset that she couldn't stay and hold her, protect her, and tell her it would all be okay. "I don't have a clue. Fin, how the hell did we get back here." Fin knew he had to tell Liv what he knew at least give her the pieces, but not now. They were cops and if their head wasn't in the game, one slip up could cost them. "I don't know, but she's safe here and we will help her get back. Let's get the bad guys Liv." Fin always knew what to say. He peeked in Cragen's office, "Cap we're gone! Keep an eye on her for us." Cragen checked on Amanda and she was asleep. The squad did what they set out to do, they caught the bad guys. Now came the hard part, the interrogation. "Great job guys, not get in there and finish it. Munch and Nick were up first talking to the first suspect. They picked him on purpose thinking he would break and give them everything, while they waited on prints and DNA.
Olivia went to check on Amanda. She stood at the door seeing she was asleep. "She's been asleep since you left. What's going on." Olivia shrugged, "Captain I don't know. I don't know what happened, what changed. This took me by complete surprise. Let me check on her and I'm coming." Olivia knelt down and brushed her blonde hair away from her face. It broke her heart to see dried tears on her face. She kissed her forehead and went back to work. The night was long and Olivia slept in crib, because it was gonna be too hard waking Amanda up, dragging her home, and dragging her back. She texted Melinda to bring them both clothes for the morning, when she realized they weren't leaving. "Hey you slept here." She grabbed the bags and shook her head yeah I had a tag along" pointing at a sleeping Amanda on her own cot. Melinda looked confused, "Don't even ask me, because I don't know. We have a session today, so hopefully a breakthrough." Olivia turned to Kat, "Do you know anything going on with her?" Kat shook her head no, "Liv whenever I call, she always says she's busy."
Olivia finished showering and dressing right as Fin arrived. "Tired?" He passed her coffee, "You forgot what the crib felt like huh? Amanda's making you soft." Olivia laughed, "Liv is she still asleep?" Olivia looked over seeing her still in bed, "Yeah, I'm just gonna let her." Fin stared at Liv, "She's lying. She didn't fall that day coming from the store Liv." Olivia looked at Fin confused, "You know something I don't?" Fin shook his head, "First she blamed bumping into me, then her story changed into she fell at the subway. Liv, you're Detective come on. Put it together. Forget that it's your girlfriend that you trust and love for just a minute. Liv that mark on face has no scratch or scrap. Does she have any other marks on her? If she fell hard enough for that mark on her face, where are the other marks? No scratches or scrapes on her hands. She's terrified Liv. Last night that was straight up fear."
Olivia's mind was racing. Fin was right and she hadn't seen Amanda's body at all, which was strange in itself. "Oh my God Fin! You're right. What am I missing? Why didn't I figure it out?" Tears fell down her face, "Hey she didn't want you to and Liv I have an idea because she used me in her lie. The minute she said she got it from bumping into me, I knew something wasn't right." Olivia went from sad, to upset, to pissed, now she was fuming. Amanda woke up and Olivia stood up. "Liv calm down." She gave Fin a look and he threw his hands up. Olivia walked in and shut the door.
