Chapter 70

It had been a month since the hostage incident and things were back to normal. Fin ended up with a slight concussion and needed two weeks off. Then he had another week of desk duty until Dr. Lindstrom released him. Olivia was released back to duty the same week. Dr. Lindstrom said she was cleared and good to go. Cragen was impressed with how Olivia handled the entire incident. Things were bad when they arrived and it could have been worse. Olivia was awarded the Medal for Valor. It was a really big deal, but Olivia was just glad to have her partner back and safe.

"Liv look what came today!" Amanda grabbed the box and opened it. "Ohhhh I know what that is." Olivia was beaming. She was so proud of Amanda. She worked really hard and only had two classes left to complete for her associate's degree. In two months she would graduate with a 4.0 GPA and a two year degree. She even received a scholarship to go to Hudson University in the Fall. Olivia couldn't believe how far Amanda had come, "How do I look Liv?" Olivia went over and straightened her honor cords and sash. "Baby you look like a college graduate. Amanda I'm so proud of you." Amanda smiled, "Really Liv, even with all the attitude, lying, and headaches that I've given you?" Olivia kissed her, "Yep all of it and I wouldn't change a thing. Hey I'll call this week, you need proper photos in your gown."

Amanda didn't go to work with Liv anymore. She actually got a job at her school tutoring kids for math. Real tutoring, no more fake stuff, no more lying, and Liv really trusted her. After the hostage incident, Amanda changed. She grew up a lot. I mean she was still stubborn, had a smart mouth, and her younger age showed up a lot versus Liv, but things were good. Olivia did still have to use the paddle sometimes, but just for fun. Just as Olivia was thinking about how great things were going her phone rang and it was Alex.

Liv: Hey Alex! What's going on?

Alex: Are you sitting down?

Liv: I am. What's wrong? Is it Amanda? Please don't tell me it's Amanda, things have been so good lately.

Alex: It's not exactly Amanda. She's been great Liv. I talked to my friend. She finished one class last week and only has one more to go. Liv she's graduating 1st in her program.

Liv: Great, but… because there is a but, you said not exactly Alex.

Alex: A social worker from Georgia called. She's been trying to contact Amanda, but you changed her phone number. Anyway she did some digging and came across records that Amanda transferred here.

Liv: Alex, I'm not following. Amanda is 19 she has nothing to do with social services. I mean she'll be 20 in August. Oh my God! Kim! Where is Kim?

Alex: Liv Kim is in Florida, a school requested her transfer. I called Amanda and told her and I won't repeat what she told me, wouldn't want to get her in trouble. (Alex giggled after that) Liv she has a brother and sister in the system in Georgia. They are her dad's children. They are 3 and 1, mom is dead and dad has signed over all rights. I have her number and she would like Amanda or you to call her. Me, why me they don't do that. I have no rights to them. Liv, I hope you don't get upset with me. I updated her on what Amanda has been through and your relationship with her. I just didn't want her walking in blind.

Liv: Oh shit. Alex this isn't gonna go well. Give me the number.

When Olivia got home Amanda was there. "Hey Liv!" Olivia was nervous, really nervous. Olivia never lied to her and even though she was protective, she always told the truth. "Hey baby. How was your day?" Amanda saw the look on Liv's face, "It was really good, but from your face yours wasn't. I swear Liv, I've been good really good." Olivia kissed her, "You have been really good, but I need to talk to you." Amanda sat on the couch, "What happened now? Liv I know things are going too well, so just spill it." Olivia pulled a phone number out of her pocket, that said Gillian Hardwick. "Alex called today baby and said that Ms. Hardwick has been trying to contact you for months now, but I changed your number with your new phone. She's a social worker in Georgia." Amanda's face was a ball of confusion, "Oh my gosh Liv! It's Kim right, I mean it can't have anything to do with me…wait Kim's in Florida. Liv?" Olivia was stalling, "No it's not Kim. Amanda you have a 3 year old brother named Noah and a 1 year old sister named Jesse. Baby their your dad's other children."

Amanda sat there in shock while Olivia held her hand and prepared for whatever was coming. "Why are they contacting me Liv?" It was in these moments that Olivia remembered no matter how smart Amanda was, she was just a kid, "Their mom is not alive anymore and your dad has signed over all rights." Amanda threw her hands up in frustration, "Of course he did. I mean he didn't take care of us, why would he take care of them. So he was just out there making babies. This is just great." Olivia waited and just let Amanda get it out. "Amanda I don't want you to be mad at me. When Alex gave me the number I called her and gave her some information about you, about us, but she would like to speak to you. I told her we would call her on the chat when I got home and explained the situation to you." Amanda looked at Liv, "Why?" Olivia took a deep breath, "Amanda she wants to know if you would be willing to take custody." And with those words, Amanda lost it right there. She became old Amanda, the Amanda Liv fought so hard to help and change. "Custody? Liv is she fucking crazy? I'm 19 what the fuck would I do with two kids?"

"Amanda watch your mouth. I know this is shocking and scary, but you better cool it! Now! I know you're upset. This is a shock, but you can't act like this. That's your brother and sister." Amanda stood up, "No and I won't cool it. I don't even have to listen to you. They aren't my family! And I'm talking to that dumb bitch on any chat. You can tell that social worker to fuck off." Amanda ran to the bathroom, slammed, and locked the door. Olivia calmly got up and walked to the door. She could hear Amanda crying. She sat on bed and waited for her to calm down. Honestly after that blow up, Olivia needed to calm down too.
