Painful periods
neongenesisevang asked for a oneshot of Rosie having her first period. Snow is excited because she can finally help a daughter with this moment. It makes Emma think about her own traumatic first period. Snow gets upset when she hears about it.
Johnny'sgirl: What would you like to happen in it?
"Woh mom, slow down." Emma said. She had only just come through the door and her mom had practically attacked her with frantic whispers and flailing, excited, hands. "What are you trying to tell me?" Snow took a few deep breaths.
"Rosie." Snow said grinning, her voice still shaking with emotion. "She's had her first period!" Emma smiled, but also raised an eyebrow.
"You called me over here because my little sister had her first period?" Emma asked. Snow nodded. Emma couldn't help but laugh a little. Snow playfully swatter her arm.
"Well it's a big deal to me!" Snow said. "It's a big moment for a woman. I never got to be there when you had yours." Snow reminded her. Emma felt bad for laughing now. She took her mom's hand.
"Well, I'm sure Rosie is appreciating your support." Emma said more sympathetically. "Where is she, anyway?"
"Tucked up in bed with a hot water bottle. She's having really bad cramps, poor thing." Snow said, glancing up the stairs. Emma winced, remembering her own first period.
"Oh don't I believe it." She mumbled under her breath, although not quietly enough. Her mom heard her.
"What do you mean, Emma?" She asked her. Emma went quiet. She hadn't meant for her mom to hear her.
"Oh, nothing." Emma lied. "Just, I remember getting cramps for the first time. I remember how sucky it is." Snow's eyes narrowed. She didn't believe Emma.
"There's more to it than that." Snow deduced. "Emma, what aren't you telling me?" Snow asked her outright. Emma shifted about nervously. "You can tell me anything." Snow reminded her gently. Emma sighed, folding her arms tightly against her chest and leaning against the wall.
"Well for a week leading up to it, I was in excruciating pain. Of course I didn't have anybody at home to tell about it, so I was just left to chug down some painkillers, but they didn't even touch it." Emma began to explain. "When it did eventually alive, luckily, I'd had enough sex ed classes to know what it was, otherwise I would have thought I was dying or something. At least the pain made sense then. The pain didn't stop though, and it seemed like the blood would never end. I didn't find out till years later that I have endometriosis. So that first period was extra sucky for me." Emma explained. Snow felt awful for her daughter. First periods were hard enough. Add into that the fact that Emma was almost alone in the world, and then that it was even more painful and traumatic for her than other girls. It was just another painful reminder for Snow of the consequences of allowing Emma to become the Saviour.
"I'm so sorry, Emma." Snow said, trying to hold in her tears. "I'm so sorry you went through all that alone." Emma shrugged.
"It was a long time ago. I'm over it." Emma said, smiling softly at her mom. Snow tried to smile back, but she found it nigh on impossible. Her daughter must have been in such pain, and she hadn't been there to help.
