Gary stared at the hospital floor. It felt that he had been waiting for hours but knew it was really much less. He sighed as he felt someone sit next to him.

"Penny."

"What is going on?"

"Not sure."

"Well, can I talk to what I call a Doctor?" Penny looked around the packed waiting area as Stevie raised an eyebrow as Tilly rushed in.

"Pen, Pen I think they are all rather busy." Tilly frowned as she saw how worried her friends were. "What happened?"

"She fell." Stevie sighed. "She fell on the stairs. Hit her head."

"Not much to damage then." Tilly laughed as all eyes fell on her. Gary swore before getting to his feet. He knew his wife was seen as the 'funny' one of the group but she was so much more. He knew that Stevie was the ambitious one, Tilly was the Slone Ranger- the posh one from Miranda's school days but somehow the three women gelled. He had no idea why but they did. And with Penny there the dysfunctional little family seemed complete. Part of him wondered if Miranda knew they were all out in the Waiting Room desperate for news on her. He ran a hand through his dark hair as he tried not to panic.

"Gary Preston? Family of Miranda Preston?"

"Here." Stevie jumped up as Gary looked up. The nurse smiled warmly as she approached them.

"Hi, Miranda is asking for Gary."

"She's alive." Gary nearly collapsed with relief.

"Yes." The nurse smiled. "She is alive and wants to see her husband."

"Go." Stevie pushed him forward. "Go get our girl."

Gary nodded before following the nurse through the doors to the treatment room.

Miranda smiled slightly as she watched Gary walk towards her. The pain her head was abating slightly as she turned her head to him.

"Hi."

"Miranda."

"I'm sorry." She felt him take her hand. "I didn't mean to scare you."

"I don't think anyone plans to fall down the stairs when they are seven weeks pregnant."

"Or any other time." She smiled as he kissed her knuckles. "We are ok. They did a scan, the baby is fine. Literally bounced around in there." She bit her lip as he closed his eyes. His eyes filled with tears as she touched his face. "Hey, what's this?"

"I." Gary took a deep breath. "I thought I'd lost you both. I."

"Never." She wrinkled her nose. "I will have to get that carpet on the stairs fixed. I don't want to fall again."

Gary kissed her forehead. "So, what now?"

"I had a neck and head scan. Apparently I do have a brain, despite what Mum says. No broken bones in my neck and my brain is intact. They said I had a Concussion because I hit my head when I fell. I don't remember but I put my arms over my stomach when I fell."

"Mother's instinct?" Gary smiled slightly as Miranda shrugged.

"The doctor thinks I fell because I had a migraine and morning sickness. I have to stay in tonight."

"MOTHER'S INSTINCT!" Penny yelled as she walked into the treatment room. "MIRANDA!"

"Shh! Shh!" Miranda waved her hands. "Only just found out. Was going to tell you and the others later today." Miranda gasped as Penny hugged her tightly.

"Oh Darling, I am what I called thrilled."

Miranda rolled her eyes as the nurse appeared to whisk her away to the antenatal ward. Gary smiled as Penny hugged him. He had a feeling things were about to be very different around the shop and the Bistro and he couldn't be happier.
