Adopting

sofi asked for a oneshot of Emma and Killian telling their family that, before they try for a biological child, they're going to adopt.

It had always been something Emma had been keen on doing. Even when she was a little girl herself, fighting to get chosen to leave the system behind. She knew that when she was an adult, she would adopt a child and give them the family she never had. She wasn't to know that when she was barely an adult herself, she would put her first biological child into the system she wanted to take a child out of. Now was Emma's chance to fulfil her promise to her younger self. She was in a steady place now. She had a good job, a nice house, and a family around her to support her. She talked it all through with Killian, and he was more than ready to start a family with Emma in whatever way she wanted. After that, she spoke with Henry. He was all go for the idea, as long as he was still the big brother. He looked forward to showing his new little sibling all their family's stories. Besides, he was adopted to. He would be able to empathise. Then it was time for Emma to tell her parents.

"It was all I ever wanted, when I was growing up." Emma explained. "Some nice couple to say that they wanted me, not some tiny baby. It's a tough life out there when you grow up in the system. Sure, there are more rules in place than when I was a kid, and that's a good thing. But there will still be plenty who fall down the cracks." Snow and Charming tried to hide their guilt. Emma had been one of those children once. She had definitely fallen down the cracks. Charming took Snow's hand. They both smiled at the other couple.

"Emma, whatever way you want to do this, we will always support you, and love our new grandchild." Charming promised her. "We'll be here to support in whatever way we can." He said. Emma smiled, relieved. She didn't know why she was worried. What exactly would her parents have said? It was just good to know they were on side. Emma squeezed Killian's hand, turning and grinning at him. They were going to have a child together.
