It was finally Valentine's Day, the day Kurama dreaded the most. Why, you ask? It's because of all the attention he got from almost every other girl of his school. ALMOST EVERY OTHER GIRL, yup from every other except from the one he wanted.
No wait, let me put it more clearly, he didn't get the type of attention he wanted from the girl. They spent a lot of time together as they were friends since kindergarten but Kurama eventually fell in love with the girl and the girl...well she treated him like her best friend.
Well back to present day. Kurama walked towards his school, making plans to avoid as many females as possible because he didn't want to disappoint them when they confess to him. He knew it would be really hard to avoid many as they usually walk in groups and that during the Valentine week the school seems to have a lot more girls than it originally had. Well, that was probably just him as he had heard his classmates complain about the female population in their school and the small number of gifts they got.
Anyways, he reached the school grounds and as expected a large number of girls came running to him to give him their gifts. *Sigh* how would he even carry all that? He was sure that by the end of the day he would end up with way more gifts than he could carry. He sighed and thanked all the girls and accepted their gifts.
I will get a sugar rush like this. Hopefully I don't end up with more, I don't particularly like chocolates.
He didn't receive any in class (thank godness) but the lunch break was the main problem. He had to hide somewhere, but it shouldn't look like he was trying to avoid the girls otherwise it can be bad. Kurama went down to the grounds, avoiding to go past any females. Now he just had to wait for a while for the girls to start their hunt. His stomach grumbled. He was so hungry at the moment but he had left the classroom without his lunchbox. He peeped from behind the tree to see if the coast was clear and yes it was. Now he just had to somehow make his way up to the rooftop without being seen.
Kurama sat on the rooftop, trying to catch his breath. Was the lunchbreak always this long? Did they extend it for valentines day? The lunchbreak on valentines felt like eternity to him and his hunger made it even worse.Just then, he heard a voice.
"There you go"
He looked in the direction of the voice and saw a girl with long red hair, and beautiful violet eyes smiling at him, offering him lunch.
"Oh, thanks" he replied, looking at the girl he ended up falling for "You made one for me again?"
"Force of habit. You always leave the class without lunch at valentines" she said, sitting next to him
"It's not like I want to. I just―"
"I know, I know. And I don't mind making an extra lunchbox for you. It's not like you are making me do that everyday"
"But you can just take my lunch out of my bag and hand it over to me"
"Ya, I could, but I'd rather not be questioned by your fangirls as to why I was touching your bag"
"Point"
"You almost sound disappointed. Come on, the food I make is edible even if not to your standards"
"What are you talking about? The food you make is delicious" he said, taking a bite of the fried chicken. "Speaking of the food, why did you make all this because if memory serves correct then you don't like to eat this stuff"
"Oh well, Just because I don't like it doesn't mean no one does, that's why"
"Still, you didn't have to make two different meals just because of that. I wouldn't have minded if you made me the same lunch as yours. I know I say this every year but don't make a completely different meal for me just because I like it. It takes a lot of effort"
She laughed
"Alright, alright, I won't"
"You say that every year"
"You say this every year too"
"That's because you don't listen"
"Well, but you also end up loving the food"
"Oh well, you put so much effort in it"
"That is true"
Her face turned scarlet as her stomach started grumbling.
"Are you hungry?" Kurama asked
"Oh umm no"
"Did you eat?"
"Yes, I did" she said nervously
"Don't lie. We always eat lunch together. And today you didn't bring your lunchbox with the one you prepared for me"
"Oh well fine, I forgot my lunch at home" she said, hiding her face behind her hands
"And you decided to give this lunch to me?"
"Oh well I don't eat all this stuff ya know, that's why"
"Oh come on, have the eggs at least. I won't take no as an answer" he said and picked up a boiled egg with his chopsticks and shoved it in her mouth before she could refuse.
"I made that for you, ya know" she said, pouting
"I know but you can't expect me to eat when you are hungry. I'm not that idiot. Come on, we can share and I'll buy you your favorite dessert after school as a thank you gift"
"Oh alright"
They sat eating the lunch together, with Kurama feeding her with the only pair of chopsticks they had at the moment.
"Hey Sumire? Did you hear that??"
"Yeah I did. Looks like the girls figured out where you are"
"Oh no"
"Umm..You take the ladder and hide up there, you know that elevated structure thingy" she said
"Yeah, I get what you are saying but what about those girls?"
"I'll see to that"
Kuram nodded and climbed up the ladder and hid. Sumire picked up the empty lunchbox and went back to go downstairs.
"I think he must be there, we couldn't find him anywhere else" she heard one of the girls saying.
"Oh well, they're just wasting their time looking up there but who cares" Sumire mumbled, but loud enough for them to hear
"Hey, I heard her say that Shuichi isn't on the roof" the one who heard her told her friend
"And why would you believe her??"
"Because she said that to herself and not me, I heard her saying that we are wasting time but who cares"
"Oh is that so? Well then let's go, search someplace else"
The girls went away mumbling about how hard it was to find him. Sumire waited for them to go and then went back up.
"Shuichi, they are gone"
"Thanks, you are a lifesaver"
"Oh I know" she said with a false proudful expression and they started laughing.
"But you can't really blame them, it's valentine after all"
"Yeah"
"The lunch break is about to be over. I'm going back to class"
"Yeah okay"
Come on Shuichi, just say it.
"Umm Sumire!?"
"Yeah what is it?"
"Oh well, I just wanted to say..."
"Hmm?"
"Umm... The food, the food was really good"
"Oh thank you" she said smiling brightly
"Oh and.."
"Yes?"
"Oh umm nothing"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes"
"Oh okay, I'm going to class then"
"Alright"
He wasn't sure why he hesitated just now but he was glad he did. There is no way she would have said a yes and even if she did, he didn't want her to end up getting used as a bait by demons because his mother was already being used as one and if the same thing happens to her he didn't know if he would be able to keep himself sane. She was very innocent too. A human and a demon just can't be together and that was what saddened him the most. Little did Kurama know that the girl wasn't as innocent as he thought and that she had the same thoughts going on her mind while walking back to the class.
Author's note: Hey guys, I know it's not valentine yet but I decided to write a oneshot between Kurama and my Oc. Hoped you enjoyed.
