May muses 13: Speech
Day 13 of May Muses! My idea for today: *6x20 spoilers!* What would Charming's father of the bride speech be like?
Charming stood up, clinking his spoon off his glass. As the guests all hushed, he felt his hands shaking slightly. Of course he had delivered many public speeches in the Enchanted Forest, even a couple in Storybrooke, but none like this. No, this was important. He took a deep breath, and smiled.
"So you all know why we're here today." He began as he rehearsed it. He gestured to Emma and Killian beside him. "My daughter has found her true love, and we quite rightly came together to celebrate that as a community. It is customary at weddings that, where possible, the father of the bride do two things: walk her down the aisle and deliver a speech. Well, we got through the first half ok, let's see how this goes." Charming let the small ripple of laughter die down before continuing. "Normally at this point, the father would launch into tales from his daughter's childhood. Most of these would be aimed to gently embarrass her. For obvious reasons, I am unable to do that with my daughter. But I can tell you about the person she has grown into since the curse broke and she really became my daughter." Charming turned to face Emma. He might be saying this publicly, but this was meant for her. "Emma, sweetheart, I think it's fair to say that when the curse first broke, there were problems for all of us. Justifiably, you weren't so keen on opening up to anyone. Now here I stand today as you get married. That process has involved you opening up and admitting your emotions even when that has gotten scary. Emma, I couldn't be more proud to be your father. I couldn't be more delighted to see the person you've become since I got to call myself your dad. You look absolutely gorgeous today, and I still can't quite believe that you're mine, and I love you very much. Killian, she might be a strong, independent woman, but you look after her. She only deserves the best. To Emma and Killian." Charming began the toast, raising his glass.
"To Emma and Killian!" The guests chanted back. Emma smiled at her dad, her eyes becoming watery.
"Thank you." She mouthed, finding his speech very mouthing. Charming dipped his head slightly to her as he sat down. He meant every word.
