Hickey

A guest asked for a oneshot of Emma trying very hard to hide a hickey when she and Hook are still newly dating. One day, Snow sees it. Snow asks why Emma is bothering hiding it because she is a grown woman. Emma says whilst she was in foster care she was punished for having them. Emma stops hiding them and Charming sees. He overreacts.

Any Portuguese Oncers in the house? If so, well done!

Well…here it is. I know today is going to be painful for a lot of us (well, tomorrow for those of us in other countries), but life moves on, ay? We can only wish that Adam and Eddy give them the send-off they deserve. A reminder that if you have a request from the finale tonight, please give me a spoiler warning beforehand! Good luck watching, everyone.

Emma was doing all the usual tricks. Turtleneck sweaters, obsessively dabbing foundation around the evidence, scarves. You name it, Emma was doing it to cover her hickey. This one seemed to be taking an age to die down. She was mortified. Her and Killian had just gotten a little bit too passionate the other night and, well…that happened. So far though, she seemed to be doing a good job of covering it up. She didn't want the town gossiping. Finding out the Saviour was seeing the ex-pirate that not everybody quite trusted yet was gossip enough. Well, she had been doing a good job, that was until her mother stumbled into her room whilst she was beginning to apply the foundation.

"Oh!" Snow said, getting a fright. Emma's main light hadn't been on, just the bedside lamp. She thought Emma had left for the station already. Emma jumped, and it caused her to drop her sponge. "Sorry honey, I thought you had left already." Snow explained.

"It's fine." Emma said quickly, trying to pull her shirt collar up, but Snow's eyes were too sharp.

"Oh Emma, what have you done to your neck?" She asked, coming closer.

"Nothing!" Emma said quickly. But Snow was now right beside her, worried. It took Snow two seconds to work out what the mark was exactly. Snow smiled.

"Ahh…" She said. "So…date night was a success?" Emma's whole face had drained of all colour, making the bruise stand out even more.

"I…Uh…Look, I'm sorry, I'm covering it up now." Emma said, indicating the makeup covered sponge. Snow just laughed.

"You've got nothing to apologise for Emma. Don't be silly." Snow told her. Emma was confused.

"I don't?" She asked. Snow shook her head.

"No, why would you? You're a grown woman in a relationship. So what if you have a little love bite." Snow reasoned. Emma cringed at the term.

"Yeah well, growing up people weren't that lenient about them." Emma explained. "I stayed with this really conservative family when I was a teen. "They had been alright up until that point. I came home not even noticing I had a hickey after a school dance. They made me skip dinner the next day and then they called my social worker. I was taken back into a group home." Emma explained. Snow tried to keep her anger buried. Nobody should have treated her daughter like that.

"Well they were wrong." Snow said gently. She took the makeup sponge off of Emma. "Nobody here is making you leave because of that." Snow promised her. Emma smiled, getting up and grabbing her back.

"Thanks mom." She said. Snow felt warm inside. That word was still new to her.

"No problem, have a good day." Snow called after her. She left Emma's room behind her and came downstairs to check on Neal. As she got down, she found Charming staring at the door, opening and closing his mouth like a goldfish.

"Charming?" She asked. "Charming, what's wrong?"

"Emma." He said, sounding like he was being strangled. "Lovebite…"

"Yes?..." Snow said, waiting for him to elaborate. Charming turned and looked at her, horrified.

"You knew?!" He asked. "Snow!" Snow just smiled at him.

"I seem to recall quite a few lovebites myself when we first started dating. Quite a few chases from Grumpy, as well…"

"That's different." Charming pouted. "But if you want to match the situation, I will happily find Hook and chase him with my sword." Snow placed her hand on his shoulder.

"No, I think we can leave that bit." She suggested. "Emma's happy. Let's just be happy for her."

"But it's gross!" Charming complained. "I don't want Emma with someone who feels it's ok to mark her." Snow raised an eyebrow.

"Were you feeling like you were marking me?" She asked. Charming's pout grew.

"It's different!" He complained. Snow laughed.

"What's different is that you will never feel like anyone is good enough for Emma and will find any excuse to prove it." Snow told him. "Leave Hook alone. Just enjoy your day off from the station. Coincidentally, I have a day off too." She said, gently tracing patterns with her finger on his shoulder. "Neal hasn't had a playdate with Philip for a while?"

"Or, he could hang out with Emma at the station?" Charming suggested. Snow frowned.

"Therefore meaning Emma can't have any company there?" She said. Charming gave her his signature smile. Snow sighed.

"I'll drop him off with Aurora." She said. She turned and winked at her husband. "But then I'll be back, but you'll have to be careful. I'm sure you wouldn't want to mark me in any way." She teased him. Charming watched her carefully as she walked away. Damn. He had got so lucky.
