Adopting- part 2
addictedtobroadway89 asked for a oneshot of a sequel to Ch2515 "Adopting" where they find a child to adopt.
Emma knew the child they were taking home as soon as she laid eyes on her. It was like looking back into a time machine. She had already lost the hope in her eyes. Nine years old, and she had given up hope of finding a forever family. Even when Emma and Killian came to the home's barbeque for potential adopters, she kept herself to herself. Emma had purposefully gone over to the little girl.
"Hi there." Emma said to her. What's your name?" The little girl looked up with startled hazel eyes.
"Me?" She asked. Emma nodded, smiling. "Oh. Don't you want to talk to the little kids?" It broke Emma's heart to hear her say that.
"No." Emma said, bending down. "I want to talk to you. I'm Emma." Emma began, hoping if she went first, that might help the little girl.
"I'm Isabella." She answered. "I'm nine."
"I'm a lot older than nine." Emma said, laughing. "Why aren't you over with the other kids?" Isabella shrugged.
"Didn't see a point." She answered. "I've been to lots of these. Once you stop being cute, they stop caring." Emma understood.
"I getcha." Emma said. "I was brought up in a home too." This caught the girl's attention.
"Really?" She gasped. Emma nodded.
"Yeah. But want to know a special secret?" The girl nodded, coming closer.
"I found my real mom and dad, when I was all grown up. It was actually my son who helped me find them." This confused the girl.
"You have your own real kid?" She asked. Emma nodded again. "Then why are you here if you can have kids?" Emma smiled.
"Because, like I said, I was you, once. Having another baby can wait a little longer." Emma explained. "Anyway, Henry, my son, he helped me find my mom and dad. They hadn't wanted to give me up, and now we get on really well. They're really excited to become grandparents again."
"Oh." Isabella said quietly. She looked hesitant for a moment, biting her lip before she looked at Emma again. "I like colouring in." She said quietly. "Would you like to colour in with me?" Emma's heart warmed. She nodded.
"I would love to. Can my husband come to?" The girls looked hesitant again, but nodded. Emma beckoned Killian over. He raised an eyebrow. He could see the excitement in Emma's eyes. Would this be the one?
The answer was yes. Emma knew in those few short minutes that they would be taking Isabella to Storybrooke. She of course talked it over with Killian, then Henry and finally, the home Isabella was staying in. After a few months, it was all official. Isabella came to Storybrooke to stay for good.
She found it strange at first. A little frightening, even. But she soon adjusted. She didn't care if her new family was a little different. What mattered was they wanted her. That was all she needed to be happy.
