Chapter 17- the Battle
Katniss took them to where she hoped they would be safe. Logan's old house where he used to live. It was now abandoned and it was cramped with so many people in it. "Why did they leave you in charge?" asked a boy who was far taller than Katniss and looked older as well. "Because, unlike you, I am responsible." Said Katniss. "Kat, look." Said James. The sun was rising over the mountains. "What is happening at the mansion?" asked James. She looked in someone's eye who was there. "They have started." She said. "They are fighting, Warren!" she said and looked at James, Sam and Kenneth. "We need to go, help, do something!" said Katniss. "Why, what happened?" asked James, not unkindly.
"He, he was flying, and he was, was, shot. Out of the sky." Said Katniss, fighting hard to not cry. "No," said James. "I am so sorry, Kat." He said. She grabbed James, Kenneth and Sam's hand and teleported to the mansion. "Katniss! What... you, the kids! Warren, I..." said Storm. "Yeah, we know. Where is he?" Storm hesitated. "I, Charles has him over there, he is very badly wounded." She said, pointing to a small, hastily constructed tent. Bobby and Peter were guarding it, fighting off anyone who dared to come near. They walked over behind Katniss. "Katniss!" said Bobby. "What happened?" asked Katniss. "Shot, outta the sky. Beats me who shot it, or how you found about it." Said Bobby as he opened the tent flap.
It was cramped with a few people inside. "Katniss, I am very sorry." Said the Professor. "Is he—" The Professor nodded. "Through the heart." Katniss stared. "Who shot?" she asked. "Who do you think?" he asked. "Dad." She said shortly. She turned on her heel and exited. "What happened?" asked James and Kenneth and Sam nodded. "Dad, my father, shot Warren, out of the sky." Breathed Katniss. "I am so sorry." Said James. "Not your fault. Now, if you excuse me, I need to go see someone." Said Katniss. "That is not going to change anything!" said Sam, horrified. "Well, I won't know until I try, will I?" she asked. "Then you will be an orphan, you will be family less!" Said Kenneth.
"Well, I would rather that than being related to that monster! Who killed his own son!" James looked at her. "And you are stooping down to his level, by killing him! Plus you would get arrested, AGAIN, for killing the President." Katniss looked at him. "You're right." She sighed. "Thank you, now what now?" he asked. "Well, we are standing in the middle of a crowded battlefield." A loud explosion made James and Kenneth jump. "What was that?" asked Kenneth. "That." Said Sam casually. A huge missile was heading towards them when it stopped halfway through the air, then exploded. "You welcome." Said Katniss.
