May muses 14: Shooting

Day 14 of May Muses! My idea for today: What if Emma was teaching her son and her brother how to shoot?

Emma winced as the bullet ricocheted off the side of the target.

"Well, it wasn't bad for the first attempt." Emma said, encouraging her son. It was his sixteenth birthday, and Emma had taken him out into a secure area of the forest to learn how to handle a gun. When Neal heard about the plan, he demanded to be taken as well. Of course Emma wasn't going to let a four-year-old anywhere near an actual gun, but she saw no harm in giving him some pointers with a Nerf gun. He seemed to accept he wasn't getting an actual gun. He was happy with his big boy ear defenders and safety glasses.

"How you doing over there, buddy?" Emma asked as she helped Henry readjust his aim.

"Good!" Neal shouted, firing another foam bullet at his own mini target. Emma smiled. He looked adorable. She came over and helped him too.

"Make sure you're aiming exactly where you want to hit." She reminded him. She helped him steady the gun as he pulled his trigger. The gun hit smack in the middle of the target.

"Awesome!" Neal cried out. "Emmy, did you see that?!"

"I sure did buddy." Emma said, ruffling his hair. "You keep practicing. Remember, you aren't to come out of your safety circle unless you ask Emma first and she's here to hold your hand." Neal nodded, focusing hard on getting another bullseye. Meanwhile, Emma went back over to Henry just as he pulled his own trigger. It too went almost right in the centre of the target.

"Woh!" Henry proclaimed. He grinned at his mom. "Beginner's luck, I guess?" He said. Emma laughed.

"Nah, it's all in the genes. Good shot, kid." Emma praised him, watching him load up again. She couldn't be prouder of both her little men.
