REVIEW RESPONSES!
momoandzuzu18: Thank you so much! I'm glad I was able to do Katara's decisions as a parent justice! Also I'm glad I was able to differentiate enough from other Aang/Kya Fics!
BoomerAang18: Thanks for the praise lol, I tried my best to get the characters down correctly, though I think Kya's Dialogue could use some work in the future.
seanbw: Thanks! (:
vanillabutspicy: I totally love that HC, I totally agree. I'm glad I was able to word Katara's feelings correctly, I struggled with that a bit.
Guest: I'm sorry you think this way about Aang, but I have to respectfully and wholeheartedly disagree with you on this one. Sure he wasn't perfect, no one is but he obviously loved his children and tried his very best to be there and help them when he could. He couldn't help being the Avatar and made the best of the situation. LoK highlighted a part of Aang and Tenzins relationship that was inevitable, Tenzin was the only hope of passing on the culture/ways of the Air Nomads after Aang's death, of course he would have more focus on him.
Sam Shake: Glad you enjoyed it! I definitely plan on continuing to write so don't worry there, not sure what yet though. Also a good response to Guest.
zgod: I actually totally agree, I honestly felt a little awkward righting the "haha" for Aang's dialogue but I felt it's what he would do so I included it. For some reason the simple solution of just describing the laugh escaped me, thanks for the feedback!
Ras: I'm aware you didn't leave a review but I wanted to leave a little response to the feedback you gave me in Dm's. Now that I'm looking over the dialogue I somewhat agree that Kya sounds a little bit too literate for a 12 year old, but for the sake of continuity I won't really change it that much for the 2nd Chapter. Also I'm happy to announce that I'm granting you your wish, here it is… the resolution! (I decided it was a good idea, so I put something together for ya!)
Chapter 2: The Resolution (In honor of Ras)
That same night, when everyone was heading off to bed, Bumi approached Kya as she got to the door to her room.
Kya's first and only thought was, What does Bumi want? He better not do something stupid right before I go to bed… hes pulled pranks on mom and dad before, he better not start on me!
Until Bumi cracked a smile and started to speak, "Eh dont worry im not gonna pull no jokes on you, at least not this time." Bumi ended his statement with a wild chuckle.
"Then what do you want? It's been a long day, I wanna go to bed!" Kya spoke frustrated that her brother always takes a while to get to the point.
"Well… after your little session with Dad you got WAY more cheery and it's kind of freaking me out, you never get over stuff that quickly…" Bumi said this with a peak of curiosity.
"So? Dad is awesome at solving problems! You out of anyone should know this, remember how relieved you were after the nonbender talk?" Kya pointed this out to him, hoping to avoid the topic of her and Aang's conversation.
"Yeah I know Dad's great at solving all of our problems and what not but even so it's not like you to have such a quick turn around… also even though you seemed cheery, I could tell Dad told you something that you didn't know about! I'm older than you for spirits sake, I deserve to know what happened as well!" Bumi's words held a mixture of curiosity, and worry.
"Fine you got me! Dad did tell me something… It was about him and Mom's adventures during the war." Kya said quietly, she didn't want Aang to hear her from down the hall.
At this, Bumi took the hint that they should probably keep this conversation on the down low and spoke his next words in a whisper. "Wait, really? Dad told you more stuff about their adventures? That means it's gotta be something insane! They only left out the worst of the worst from what they told us as kids."
"Yea it was pretty insane…" Kya confirmed, unsure if she should tell her brother.
"Well? Are you gonna tell me?" Bumi asked, somewhat annoyed that Kya wasn't taking the hint.
"I don't know Bumi… I told Dad I wouldn't tell Mom, but I feel like that might apply to you too. This is the first time me and Dad have ever had a really personal good bonding experience and I don't want to go behind his back and ruin it."
"Come on Kya! Pleaseeeeeee I gotta know what crazy thing happened to them that made Mom have to leave all these years later!" Bumi was now on the ground begging to his sister, a situation in which he never thought he would find himself in as the older sibling… oh well.
"Im sorry, but no. You will have to learn from Mom or Dad yourself, I won't betray Dads trust."
"Ugh fine, you're so annoying sometimes…" Bumi mumbled to her as he started heading for his bedroom, annoyed he couldn't drag the information out of her.
"Yea yea Bumi, I'M the annoying one!" Kya responded accusingly before finally being able to head into her bedroom and close the door, and get some sleep.
The days went by and Kya, Bumi, and Tenzin all took full advantage of the time they had alone with Aang. This was of course somewhat of a rarity seeing as Aang was often gone fulfilling his duties to the world, and when he was here he made sure to spend as much time with Katara as he did his kids. But the day finally came when Katara was scheduled to come back home, hopefully with good news.
The day Katara came home happened to be one of the 2 days a week Bumi would be off with Uncle Sokka learning how to stand his ground as a Nonbender, and Tenzin was off with Aang getting basic Air-Nomad literature lessons. Due to these facts, Kya would be all by herself in the house when Katara gets home… Perfect!
Kya was sitting at the table eating her dinner and listening to the radio and enjoying the rarity of a quiet house to herself. She had just finished eating and had taken care of her mess when she heard the door open.
Kya immediately halted the journey to her room, could that be mom? Was the thought that jumped to the forefront of her mind. She quickly ran back down the hallway and to the door to see a person standing at the entrance taking their shoes off.
It was her.
Kya laughed a quiet, nervous laugh and began.
"Uh, hey Mom." Kya began slowly, even if she had forgave her Mom over a week ago, the awkward tension still loomed between them.
"Oh Kya! Hello sweetie… are you still angry with me?" Katara was apprehensive, she was genuinely happy to see her daughter again. After all this had been one of the longest times she had gone without seeing her children, but of course the tension still existed between herself and Kya.
"Don't worry Mom, Dad gave me a good long talk and helped me understand the situation." Kya paused temporarily, before continuing. "Im really really sorry Mom… I never should have gotten so angry and mad at you without knowing anything about the situation." Kya began her words with confidence, but slowly throughout the sentence began to break down.
"A talking to huh? What did your father tell you?" Katara was suspicious, there was no way Aang had told her… right?
Katara then immediately lost her train of thought as she began to see Kya cry. Mother mode quickly took over all previous apprehension as she made her way over to her daughter to embrace her in a tight hug.
"You ok?" Were the only words that escaped Katara's mouth.
"Yea… Im fine." Kya began.
"I'm just really mad at myself for being so selfish… I never should have lashed out at you like that." Kya was once again quiet, still in her mothers embrace.
"Kya, it's fine really. I know you meant well and that you were worried about me. Trust me I appreciate it." When Katara finished she chuckled lightly, hoping to somewhat up the mood.
"It's not ok! I was so mean to you and I said a lot of stuff I shouldn't have without knowing what you were even doing… what if it was some personal family death or something and you didn't feel like talking about it? That would have been horrible of me to say stuff like that before you left." Kya was now sobbing into her mothers jacket.
"Kya, yes what you did was quite harsh. But I forgive you ok? Trust me." There were those words again, trust her. Words that Katara had also spoken before she left 2 weeks prior, only then Kya hadn't taken them to heart.
"Ok Mom, thank you…" Was all Kya could say.
It was already quite a late evening for the family, around 10pm. So soon after Kya's heartfelt apology, Katara and Kya headed off to bed.
"Mk sweetie, how about we talk more about this in the morning ok? You can tell me what your Father did to your little brain to make you do a 180, it's getting late." Katara began softly after a few more minutes of embrace.
"That sounds nice." Was all Kya could get out, trying to ignore the part about telling Katara what Aang had told her.
Kya had gone to bed quite a while ago at this point, it was super late into the night and Katara was finally getting settled for bed herself until a certain husband of hers walked into the room.
"Hey sweetie... " was all Aang said at first, well aware he was about to be bombarded with questions from his wife.
"Hello Aang…" Katara began slowly, he knows he's in trouble Was her only thought.
"How did the whole Kya situation go?" Aang began, hoping it had all worked out like he planned.
"It went fine, she was quite upset with herself. Poor thing must have felt so bad now that she knows what happened, huh?" Katara began accusingly, obviously suggesting Aang had told Kya something.
Aang chuckled at that, he was caught. "Yea she sure was."
"Aang! Why did you tell her?! We had a long talk about when we should tell the kids about certain things and you go behind my back and tell her anyway?" Katara was justifyingly frustrated with her husband at this point in time, confused as to why he would do this.
"Katara sweetie… she was very confused and hurt over you leaving without any explanation. Imagine what her mind jumped to when you suddenly announced that you're leaving for 2 weeks with no explanation as to why. She thought you were going to handle some conflict on your own." Aang's tone was quiet, and understanding. Hoping to get across to his wife the hurt she had caused her daughter.
Katara was dead silent, how could she have overlooked that? Aang is leaving constantly but he always gives an explanation as to where he was going and why. "I really screwed up there huh?" Katara said with a bit of regret on the tip of her words.
"Maybe." was all Aang said in return.
"How much does she know?" was all Katara had left in her mind.
"The whole story, though I left out the southern raiders bit. Thats for you and her to discuss." Aang's words were now taking on a bit more of a joyful tone.
"Thanks for fixing my problems as always sweetie, and thanks for not telling her about the southern raiders…" Katara's tone was full of appreciation and understanding of her husband's decision.
"Don't mention it, I always got your back and you always got mine. That's how it's always been."
"Yeah yeah Mr. Avatar, how about we go to bed now? It's been quite the eventful 2 weeks." Sleep was the only thought on Katara's mind now that the situation with Kya had been handled.
"Couldn't agree more, how did it go by the way?" Aang asked as they both began to get comfy in their bed.
"It went good." was all Katara could get out through her sleepy tone.
Aang smiled, he was glad he was able to help his wife and daughter through their little squabbles.
"Goodnight sweetie." Was all Aang said in response, he figured they would discuss it in much more depth in the morning anyway. No point in pushing the subject at 1am.
"Goodnight." Katara said in return, quickly drifting to sleep beside Aang.
