Emma held the suitcases tight in her palms and held Killian's hand as well as she started walking towards the inter area of the airport. There were so many people in there... others were hugging each other after so many months without seeing each other, and others were crying hard onto each other's shoulders as they were saying the last goodbye...
Well, she didn't know how she should feel. She was definitely gonna miss Killian and Henry like crazy but she was used to leave the country pretty often due to her work. The thing is that other times she was just focused on her main purpose. To solve the case... this time she couldn't focus on the important stuff! She could only think of Regina!
Killian stood next to her massaging her shoulders supportively as he was checking at his watch constantly while looking around the area nervously.
"Are you okay?"
She asked and frowned.
"She was supposed to be here by now'
He mumbled focusing on the unknown faces in the crowd.
"'Maybe she changed her mind..."
She said ironically and rolled her eyes. To be honest the waiting was killing her... Killian just looked at her annoyed and then back to his watch. The blonde woman huffed and shrugged her shoulders as she slowly realized that this wasn't a bad dream. She really wished that she would able to pinch herself and wake up from this horrible nightmare but that was unfortunately the ugly reality.
A few minutes passed in silence. They weren't talking. They didn't even look at each, not even once. They kept looking at the floor speechless waiting for the big appearance of the evil queen. She was completely lost in her own thoughts when she felt Killian raising his head up looking at something with eyes widened open.
She frowned and looked towards the direction he was looking at. It was her! Holy shit it was Regina! She didn't look a day older. Still the same old bitch she thought. The former queen was wearing a long black trench coat made of patent leather, and black boots that reached the height of her knee. She was shaking her hips sexily, approaching them filled up with confidence.
Her face was emotionless as always. Emma wasn't surprised at all... The brunette woman took off her black sunglasses and gave them both a fake smile when she approached them. There was no sign of wrinkles on her face... she didn't look a day older... she flickered her eyes open avoiding to look at emma. She just concentrated on Killian's face. She laid her hand towards him for a handshake and didn't even bother to remove her black velvet gloves.
Killian smiled broadly and shook her hand tight.
"I thought you wouldn't show up!"
He finally spoke and Regina nodded negatively.
"What kind of a professional do you think I am?"
She spoke back and turned towards emma.
"Hello miss swan!"
She spelled in her hoarse low voice retaining her poker face.
"Agent Mills..."
She mumbled at the brunette and forced a smile. She felt the muscles on her face refusing to even move but she had to be kind... it was a business trip after all!
It's not like they would be best friends...
"You're late."
She spelled without controlling the words coming out of her mouth. She could feel Killian's death stare jabbing on her. She wanted to slap herself for speaking so confidently at the moment but she couldn't control it.
Regina didn't bother to care about Emma's disdainful look.
"Excuse me but I just came back from another mission."
She smirked at emma and turned towards Killian completely ignoring the blonde's reaction.
"We should go now. We don't have all day."
Killian nodded his head agreeing with her and pushed them both towards the entrance of the plain.
"You both be careful. As soon as you find any kind of information you better send me the clues via email. I'll make sure to get them analyzed by specialists. Also as soon as you reach the hotel you better text me so I can make sure that you guys are fine!"
Regina just nodded not really interested about the pirate's words. She just grabbed her suitcases and after she handed her ticket to the flight attendant she walked in the plain not looking back. Emma turned towards Killian and rolled her eyes.
"This is crazy..."
She mumbled looking at his bottom lip.
"At least she's polite. You better go love! You don't wanna miss your flight."
He run his fingers through her blonde curls and Emma nodded with a small pout on her face.
"I'm gonna miss you! Take care of Henry! You better not tell him anything about this!"
Killian squeezed her hands reassuringly and placed a kiss on her lips filled up with lust. The words I love you came out through his lips almost soundless. Emma couldn't help but smile and walk into the plain as well.
The door shut behind her and their flight was about to start. They had of course a couple of hours to kill in there. It was an 8 hour flight in the same plain, seat next to seat with Regina Mills! That sounded like a terrible nightmare. She huffed annoyed as she walked in the area of the First Class travelers and sat down next to the brunette agent who was already sipping a glass of red wine.
Emma crossed her legs as she sat down and looked outside of the window avoiding any eye contact or any contact at all. Regina decided to break the silence with her question.
"Want some wine?"
Her voice sounded extremely calm and filled up with innocence. It was like the former queen had totally forgotten what happened back then. Or at least it was more convenient for her to pretend like nothing ever happened that made everyone suffer... emma wouldn't forget it though! Five years later she was still in pain.
She was still crying during night time when she was thinking about her parents. She had tried to look for them once, but the police couldn't find anyone with the names Mary Margaret or David Nolan. At least there wasn't anyone in the United States that was named that way...
She looked at the brunette and nodded negatively.
"No thanks I'm fine."
"Even more for me then!"
She shook her shoulders stress free and kept drinking.
Silence covered the entire area again. They were the only ones traveling in first class so their only company was the sound of the tv coming from across the room. Emma was left alone with her thoughts again. She prayed that Regina would mention something about the past that would give emma the permission to punch her face and show her how much she hated her...
Nothing... Regina wouldn't even bother asking about Henry. That was what drove Emma insane. She didn't even care about her own son... she didn't show any sign of interest at anything.
Regina placed a vast envelope on the desk in front of her, and begun looking through the pages. She was currently investigating the clues they had about the case so far. She looked quite absorbed while she was studying the evidence.
Emma tapped her fingernails on the plastic chair she was sitting on when she decided to make the first move.
"So what's up with you?"
The look on her face immediately betrayed her intentions. She didn't look like she cared at all... she was just bored and hyped.
"Nothing really!"
The brunette replied still looking through the file's pages.
"For real? It's been five years Regina. There must be something new with you!"
The brunette woman shut the envelope aggressively and looked at emma all serious and kinda irritated.
"Nothing important really!"
As much as she was struggling to play it cool emma
had already noticed the fact that her hands were shaky. She knew something was up with the queen but she couldn't tell if it was her regrets or something that happened.
"How's robin?"
She asked and examined her face closely.
"You're asking too many questions miss swan!"
She replied firmly and right away like she was expecting that specific question. Emma frowned looking at her in confusion.
"I'm sorry... I just thought that we should find a way to kill our time."
She explained herself.
" You can do anything you want miss swan as long as you don't bother me."
She cleared her throat and put on her sunglasses again as a sign that she didn't care about what emma had to say anymore. She turned towards the window,
Drunk another sip of her wine and shut her eyes closed pretending that she was asleep.
Emma rolled her eyes irritated and crossed her hands under her chest. She decided to put on her earphones and listen to some music. If there's was one person in the airplane that should not be in the mood for a conversation that should be emma. Not Regina! She managed to retain her sass tho and completely ruin Emma's attempt of getting to know each other.
The truth is... you want the truth about Regina Mills? She had nothing left to say... The truth is that she was way too uncomfortable to even look at Emma! That's why she was in no mood to look at the blonde woman or even talk to her. She knew that emma would try to scratch wounds that hadn't completely healed yet...
Robin... she was just not ready to answer to all
these questions yet. She was better alone. She was better quiet hiding behind the walls she had built. At least she felt safe that way... Regina never liked pain. Can you blame her? That specific feeling described the biggest part of her life. Lately all she wanted to do was to avoid getting hurt for once again.
She didn't have fun all these five years... she was definitely miserable and unhappy. Sometimes she just wished that would vanish. That way maybe her pain would finally stop, and all these painful memories would be erased.
To be honest emma was trying her best to keep her mouth shut and not cause her luck but the quietness surrounding them was killing her. She took a deep breath gathering her courage and turned towards Regina.
"What?"
The brunette woman mumbled with her eyes still shut.
"Turns out I need some wine."
She spelled a little afraid of Regina snapping as usual. Instead of snapping she just took off her sunglasses, handed the bottle at emma and smirked.
"Did you have to wake me up for this? It was right next to you."
She lied... of course she wasn't sleeping.
"It's your wine and I didn't want to get you upset over it."
"It's jus alcohol swan. You better find a better excuse next time."
She struggled to get comfortable on the seat and breathed out annoyed.
"Regina how's life really? I haven't seen you for so many years."
"Missed me?"
She asked ironically.
"What?"
"Come on emma! I bet I'm the last person you wanted to see."
There was her moment! First hint that proved that Regina knew exactly why Emma was that cold against her. Even though she wanted to start a conversation about the past so badly and finally shut Regina's mouth with curses, she couldn't. Call her coward yes... at least she had a good reason.
There was definitely something up with the brunette. She was way too cold and way too reticent than usual. She had already noticed the sadness in her eyes the minute she mentioned robin's name. Something was up... and she was dying to find out.
"Well this is a professional trip so I don't really get to choose my partners. Anyway... i just wanted to make sure that you're okay."
"I'm fine..."
She spelled through her teeth and that helped emma confirm the fact that something was going terribly wrong with the brunette. She was sad... she knew Regina! She could read her face after so many times fighting with her. It wasn't regrets that tortured her... it was something else.
"Are you sure?"
"Sure I'm sure."
She answered and shut her eyes again ignoring emma and shutting her out for once again...
