I do not own Power rangers SPD. Disney does.
The only thing I do own is my character Emma.
Back at SPD Base, Sky led the way to the Command Center, where we stood with our hands behind our back. James stood there in shock of his surroundings.
"At ease cadets." Cruger said, letting us relax. "Could someone explain our unexpected guest?" I stepped forward.
"Sir, his name is James Kingston. Apparently, the reason for the Troobian energy in the Northern District is because the Dark Wizard and Stingray were looking for him, sending Troobians to search for him. It took a while for it to become apparent because James was able to manipulate and change them, which helped him stay hidden for so long." I explained. "I can't explain exactly what he did, but during our battle with the Troobians, he was able to make them turn against each other."
"I see." Commander Cruger looked directly at me. "And do you trust him?" I looked at Commander Cruger.
"There is a lot more that needs to be done for him to earn our trust Commander, but it doesn't mean he is against us. He hasn't shown any reason for us to think he is working for the Dark Wizard." I paused. "And if that were to change, I will handle it personally." I added, bringing a fire ball into my hand, glancing towards James.
"At ease cadet." Cruger said. I kept my stare on James as I put my fire ball away. "Rangers, you are dismissed. Dr. Manx will take Mr. Kingston in for an evaluation and a full background study." Sky, Syd, Z and Bridge turned around and left. I watched as Kat took James into the back room. "Cadet Richardson, is there something wrong?"
"No, sir." I said, turning to face him. "I'm just not sure why the Dark Wizard would be so interested in getting his hands on yet another technopath." I told him. "Even if he turns out to be on our side, the Dark Wizard will try to get to him, just like he has been trying to get to me."
"That may be true, and we will never fully understand the Dark Wizard's true motives, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was going after him for more than just his talents." I looked at Cruger, carefully thinking.
"But maybe because of their age." I stated. Cruger nodded slightly. "That would make a lot of sense now that I think about it."
"Like I said, there is no way we will fully understand the Dark Wizard's motives, but we will be prepared for whatever he throws our way, even if it means doing something that hurts us emotionally." I knew he was making a point just for me. "Dismissed Cadet." I nodded and turned, heading back towards the lounge where the other rangers were waiting.
After filling the rangers in about what I new about James, I headed back to towards my room, which is where I stayed until it was time to eat. I joined the rangers, but I found myself not as hungry as I probably should be seeing as I haven't eaten much all day, or much in the last few days honestly. I opened my journal, looking back at the last day I wrote in it, which was Friday.
June 17, 2026
It's been a few days, and those days have been crazy. Kim and Tommy came Saturday, and they helped me feel a little better. They just left this morning, but having them here the last few days made my pain seem to fade, even thought it is clearly still there. Sunday Kinesis appeared again, and it was hard to see the screen, I wasn't ready to face the fact that the person I had become friends with, the person I had a crush on, was really a pawn in the Dark Wizards plan. I didn't go with the rangers to face him, and instead went back to my room, where Kim helped tried to help me see the facts behind it all, because I knew I needed to back to my Ranger duties, but there was still a lot I needed to face. Eventually, Tommy came and told me the rangers were hurt in the battle with Kinesis, which I hurried to see them. I found out that Kinesis used their weapons against them, which made me feel worse. I ended up using that frustration in the training room, where Kim eventually found me surrounded by smoke, I mean, I had to let off steam. Kim was right, I was angry with Kinesis, and this time he hurt my ranger family. I needed to do something, so after everyone went to bed, I went to the Command Center to get all the information about Kinesis and to watch the footage from the ranger's latest battle with him. I was surprised to see Commander Cruger still there. He ended up telling me the story about Emperor Grumm, and he started from the beginning up to the capture of Grumm.
I suddenly realized that Commander Cruger understood why I had to do what I needed to do. I told him my plan. Since Kinesis likes to use his technopathic power, I decided no weapons, just my magic. I spend all the information and the battle footage to my laptop and went to train.
I spent most of my free time during the next two days training and studying up on the battle and up on Kinesis. Yesterday, Tuesday, Kinesis appeared again, and this time, I met up with him. I grabbed my morpher and went to face him. I was going in with only facts and hope that my training will pay off, and I was lucky that it did.
Double Elements. Yep. I practice concealing other elements in a water ball, which took Kinesis by surprise. And obviously, I had no weapons with me, plus I wasn't morphed, and he couldn't force me to morph or use my morpher to make me morph, so I had the upper hand. Eventually I defeated him, and confined him to a Confinement Card where I brought him to Cruger to be put away. I finally explained it to the rangers, before passing out from overexertion.
Kim and Tommy ended up leaving this morning, but I can see that they are planning on checking in on me frequently. Kat was upset with how often I used the training course she made up for me (twice a night for two nights, not the smartest idea, but it helped my double elemental training AND helped me beat my time and target score on Sunday!) so I was told I was to take a day off from ALL training, which upset me. So, I left my morpher in my room and went rollerblading around town, stopped at a park to read and eat the apple I brought with me. When I got back, Cruger wasn't happy that I left my morpher behind, but didn't press it. I was sent on a mission, there was extra Troobian energy in the Northern District that they had been monitoring and now they wanted me to check it out.
To my surprise, I found a boy, around my age, that was a Technopath (because of course he is) but could also see the future? I don't really understand it, but his name is James, and he said he was looking for me. And then, he froze before pushing me out of the way of a Troobian blast. Good old Stingray showed up, with Troobians in tow, and explained that the Troobians were looking for James, who said he didn't know or recognize Stingray, but recognized the Troobians. Then James explained that he was able to manipulate the Troobians to have them fight each other or forget that they were looking for him. He gladly demonstrated while I fought off the Troobians to give him time. The rangers showed up to help. We brought James back to SPD, where I left him with Kat and Cruger.
As for the rest of the day today, I'm feeling ok, which is saying something after the past few days. Kim said that I will have my good days and I will have some bad days, but I just have to take them one day at a time.
I didn't want to get out of bed this morning, but I eventually pulled myself out of bed. I had no energy to even get dressed, but I did it. I walked out of my room and noticed that the rangers were gone already this morning, no doubt doing their ranger duties. I walked towards the Command Center, where Cruger and Kat were talking. They stopped the moment I walked through the doors.
"Good Morning Cadet Richardson, is there something wrong?" Cruger asked. I looked around.
"No, nothing's wrong." I said simply. "Just wondering if I am on any patrols."
"Not today, Cadet." Cruger said. I nodded and turned to leave.
"Emma." I stopped and turned toward Kat. "I need to do some updates to the morphers, and since it seems you need a little time to yourself, I would like to start with your morpher." I thought nothing of it as I unclipped my morpher and handed it to Kat.
"Ok, I'm going to be in my room if you need me for anything." I said, turning and heading back to my room.
"Why didn't you tell her?" Cruger asked Kat once they were alone.
"Which part?"
"Both."
"It didn't seem like the right time." Kat said simply. "I'll tell her about the morpher updates when I know that I can get it to function correctly."
"And about what Jason suggested?"
"I'll tell her before he arrives tomorrow." Cruger just nodded and Kat left to work.
I ended up spending most of the day in bed, in the darkness of my room. I slept off and on. Z eventually came in to check on me, eventually convincing me to join them for supper. I ate a little bit while the ranger chatted. I took notice that the other rangers still have their morphers.
"Did you guys get your morphers updated yet?" I asked, making them look at me.
"Morpher Update?" Bridge asked for everyone. "The morphers have the most current update." I looked at Bridge.
"Are you sure?" I asked Bridge. "Kat's had my morpher all day because she had to do updates." We all exchanged glances.
"Don't think about it too much." Syd eventually said. "Maybe your morpher needed to be checked over after the Kinesis battle." I turned my attention to my food, which I had barely touched.
"Yeah, maybe." I said simply. We all finished in silence. After we finished eating, I started heading back towards my room.
"How about a game of Lightball?" Sky asked. I shook my head.
"No thanks. I'm going to bed." I said, entering my room. Sky, Syd, Bridge and Z exchanged glances.
"We shouldn't worry." Z said simply. "Kim said this was going to be normal for a while."
"Exactly." Sky said, pulling on his glove for Lightball. "She'll be fine. Now let's play."
I woke up the next morning and got ready for the day. I went out and grabbed an apple for breakfast and ate it quickly. I was feeling much better than yesterday and I joined the rangers on the couch.
"Feeling better this morning?" Z asked. I nodded slightly.
"Yeah, I think I was still exhausted from the recent events." I admitted. "I'm ready to go train with my magic. I taught myself a new trick, I cannot let it die." Z chuckled.
"Sky training C and D Squad cadets?"
"No, Syd and Bridge are today." Z said simply, finishing her breakfast. "Sky is working with Cadet Kingston."
"James?" Z nodded. "I still think we need to keep a close eye on him."
"I think we just need to have our keep guard up in general." Z stated simply. "But, don't worry, we'll be keeping a close eye on him." Z stood up. "I have to get ready for patrol. Have fun training." Z left and I quickly finished my apple before heading off to the training rooms.
I joined the rangers for lunch, and we all chatted. Sky filled us in with James's training while Bridge and Syd gave a brief update on their training with the C and D squad cadets. Z talked about her patrol and I went into a little more detail about my new trick. Before we could finish eating, the alarm sounded, and we hurried to the Command Center.
"Stingray and Troobians at the Harbor." Cruger said.
"Ready?" Sky asked.
"Ready!" Z, Bridge and Syd said, bringing up their morpher. The four of them looked at me.
"I…I still don't have my morpher." I stammered.
"SPD Emergency!" The rangers said, before leaving. I sighed and turned towards Command Cruger.
"Ok, what is going on?" I asked, trying to stay calm. I feel like my mood can change much quicker now than it did before the whole Kinesis thing. "The rangers told me their morphers didn't need to be updated. Bridge even said all the morphers were up to date. I'm the only one without their morpher, and it puts me in a really confusing spot. Am I in trouble? Is there something wrong with my morpher that no one else's has."
"Cadet Richardson." Cruger said, moving from his chair. "You are not in trouble and there is nothing wrong with your morpher."
"Then what is going on?" I asked, not letting Commander Cruger continue. "Something is going on and I should know."
"You should." Cruger agreed. "But this is not my place to say." I sighed, turning toward the monitors where the rangers were fighting Troobians.
"I should be out there helping them, but I can't even morph." I turned when I heard Kat's office door open. "Kat, what is going on? Why did you tell me that you needed to updates on the morphers?"
"Your morpher did need updates, but not in the way you think." Kat said simply, handing me my morpher. I was ready to leave to join the others when Kat stopped me. "The rangers can handle this." I looked at the monitors before looking at Kat. "I have been doing some tests, and I have found a way to make it so you can use your magic while morphed." Kat explained, which took me by surprise. "I wanted to test it with your suit first. I thought it would only take a few hours, but it took a little longer than planned. We will go test it before you leave tomorrow." I was taking it all in, thinking about being able to use my magic as a ranger.
Whoa, wait. Did she say something about leaving?
"Wait. What? Leave? Tomorrow? What are you talking about?" I said, pushing the ranger suit upgrades thoughts to the side.
"Jason called yesterday, and we agreed with him, that you need a break." Kat explained. I looked at Cruger and then back at Kat. "He will be here late tonight, and you will be heading out tomorrow morning." This was a lot to take in.
"Why didn't anyone ask my opinion on this before deciding this? Why didn't I have a say in what happens?"
"Cadet Richardson, you have been through a lot in the past few days, and this is the best way for you to get a break from your ranger duties and re-evaluate everything. To relax and come back refreshed and in a new mindset." I sighed and turned away. I knew that everyone was trying to help me get through everything, and maybe it was a good idea. After awhile of processing everything that was just said, I turned.
"How long will I be gone?" I asked simply.
"Two weeks." My mouth dropped open at what Kat said. Two weeks! I took a deep breath and nodded slowly.
"Ok." I said simply. Kat smiled.
"Let's go test out the new suit." Kat said, hoping that testing the suit will help me relax a bit. I nodded and I let Kat lead the way. I knew that with everything going on, this was all going a bit fast, but I also knew that everyone only wanted the best for me, and maybe leaving wouldn't be such a bad thing. I just wish I would have had a bit more time to prepare myself mentally. I guess I just have to continue taking this one day at a time.
And that is the end of The Power of Evil
Emma's Story continues with "Revelations" which has been in the works for MONTHS.
Thanks Everyone for reading!
