The former savior chose to keep her mouth shut at the moment. They had a pretty hard case to deal with that made it hard for her to approach Regina and get to know her. After all Regina wouldn't even bother talking to Emma about her past.
She acted way too professionally to act more human right now. Emma fixed her high pony and followed the brunette inside the vast building. They used the elevator to reach the fifth floor where Fiona's and Sarah's hotel room was. When they finally reached room number 5D Regina used the key to enter the messy room.
It was a spacey room that looked pretty much like their own. The only difference was that the room was messed up. There were clothes all over the king size bed and sofa and food leftovers on the top of the circular brown coffee table that was decorated in the middle of the small living room.
Regina paced up and down inside the bedroom looking around her disgusted.
"How could they live like that?"
"The fact that you're a clean freak doesn't make this room less sustainable!"
Emma replied and walked towards the abandoned suitcases. She kneeled down and started looking at the clothes. Floral dresses and pinkish skirts must be Fiona's favorite piece of clothing. Most of her clothes were consisted by floral patterns and colorful sketches.
"To be honest I do believe that you would be able to live inside a dumpster Miss Swan."
The brunette rolled her eyes and held a picture of Fiona and Sarah kissing inside a photo booth. She smirked playfully.
"It's miss Davis for you madam mayor!"
Emma winked playfully and kept digging inside Fiona's suitcase.
"She was definitely a fan of Red Hot Chili Peppers. Most of her t-shirts have a stamp of the band on them. She even keeps a picture of a concert inside her suitcase."
Regina frowned and approached the blonde woman narrowing her eyes.
"What about Sarah?"
"I don't know! You're the profiler here. You're gonna create a profile."
Emma smiled broadly and winked at Regina rascally.
"This is not a game miss swan."
"I just wanna see you in action madam mayor."
She kept going with the mischievous tone in her voice while looking at the brunette with a playful look on her face.
"Fine... Sarah looks like she was the man of the relationship. Ripped jeans, extra large t-Shirts and buttoned up shirts and ties are the proof of that... She looks like a pretty descent wife! The kind of wife that keeps bubbling and bubbling about her marriage all the time. Her wallet is filled up with pictures of Fiona. Not to mention that she doesn't look like the healthiest human being alive since her portmanteau is filled up with cigarettes, chocolates and three bottles of gin. Have no idea how she was able to get through the airport gates while carrying so much alcohol with her."
"Wow that was impressive."
Emma clapped her hands.
"So fill me in about Fiona miss swan! I wanna see you try making a profile about her!"
Regina winked playfully and bit her bottom lip.
"Fiona is definitely the woman of the relationship. Her taste in clothes proves that fact, she's definitely a huge fan of Red Hot Chili Peppers as well and I do believe that she's pretty neat. The entire room is messed up but her suitcase is on point. The clothes are placed inside the suitcase neatly and carefully. Also I would like to mention the fact that she must be a painter or at least an artistic soul since she keep a portfolio that's filled up with paintings of her wife... naked... shit... I shouldn't have seen that."
She started laughing looking at Regina.
"Not bad considering it's your first try miss swan. So... nothing weird inside their suitcases. They both look like a completely normal couple that came here to celebrate their love for each other. What about their cellphones?"
Emma shrugged her shoulders as she grabbed the dusty phone from the top of the bed.
"It's charged. I could only find Fiona's cellphone! There are multiple missed calls from her mother and her sister... poor girls... Anyway... doesn't look like she has made any phone calls. A guy named Adam called her on June 12th. She didn't answer the call."
"Okay... I'm gonna text Killian the current information and I'm gonna let him know about that guy named Adam as well. It would be useful to know who the hell he is."
Emma nodded with her head and Regina exited the room to call Killian and fill him in.
The blonde woman stood up and wondered around the room, checking inside every drawer and box. There was nothing important there except painkillers, a pair of golden earrings and a romantic novel.
She kept wondering around the room to make sure that there was nothing they hadn't noticed that could be useful. Regina entered the room again.
"So... Killian found out that that guy named Adam was Fiona's boss. I don't believe that he has anything to do with this case. I think we're done here!"
Emma pressed her lips skeptically.
"I think it's time for a drink."
"Yeah. I could use one as well."
Regina agreed and they both exited the room.
"So I have an idea..."
Emma said and looked at Regina hesitant.
"Spit it out."
Regina mumbled.
"So... I learned that there are a couple of fun activities for couples in the hotel so I think that this is our chance to get to know more people and approach them. It could be useful."
Emma pointed.
"Not a bad idea. We should pay the first group a visit tomorrow morning and get to know them."
"You do realize that we have to be part of the activities right?"
Emma asked and scratched her head.
"Yes... unfortunately I do. For now I'd like to enjoy a drink and forget what's coming up for tomorrow."
As soon as she finished her phrase they had already reached the bar that was next to the pool. Emma smiled broadly and sat down on the stool. Regina joined her of course and ordered to Johnny Cola for them to drink.
The bar man gave them a charming smile and got back to work.
"We haven't gotten the chance to talk about our lives you know."
Emma finally admitted out loud and avoids any kind of eye contact with Regina. The former evil queen bowed down her head and played with her fingers obviously uncomfortably.
"There's nothing to talk about."
She replied firmly.
"Oh come on Regina! Storybrooke was ruined and you disappeared for five years! No one knew if you were dead or alive! No one had ever heard about you again and suddenly I found out that you were working for the FBI and you were one of the best in your work! Don't tell me that nothing happened working those five years."
A pause followed as the bar man handed them their drinks and walked away. Regina took a sip of the whiskey and closed her eyes. The powerful flavor flooded her mouth as she swallowed the sip and she smirked in pleasure. She shook her head and opened her eyes again now staring right inside Emma's eyes.
"None of your business."
"I'm not here to judge you. What happened to storybrooke now belongs to the past. What happened back then hurt all of us, but we can't change the past Regina... let's just make a fresh start please. I'm tired of getting mad at you all the time. I'm tired of arguing and fighting. I can't just keep working with you while I know that you're trying your best to ignore me or at least pretend like nothing happened. Talking about your feelings might help you."
Her body was slowly getting even more tended. She could feel her muscles tightening up while her hands got all shaky. She wouldn't even dare remember those days. She couldn't bear bringing all these memories inside her head for once again.
Her past almost drove her insane once but she was lucky enough to escape madness. Every time she had to talk about all these incidents she could feel her heart skipping a beat in terror. That man ruined her.
That man ruined her life. What an irony huh? True love turned into her worst nightmare. Their undying love was written inside the book... what If the book was actually wrong? She felt like everyone's life was actually predicted all along but her life was filled up with surprises and misery.
Maybe that was her destiny. To be miserable forever.
She cracked her knuckles once again and swallowed hard. Her throat was dry. She desperately needed to drink. She drunk a couple of more sips of her drink and cleared her throat. She was pretty sure that in case she even tried to talk the words wouldn't be able to exit her mouth.
"Are you okay?"
Emma's voice echoed again inside her head. Warm hands landed on top of her own and a pair of emerald green eyes were looking at her in compassion.
"Y-Yes."
Her voice broke and she immediately stopped talking in embarrassment. Emma rubbed Regina's hand supporting her to go on and speak.
"Well... Ugh... let's just say that I didn't get pretty lucky with my happy ending."
She finally managed to say and drunk another sip of scotch.
"If you're not happy then it's not the end Regina. Always remember that."
"You sound just like your mother."
She smirked.
Emma smirked back at Regina and suddenly all the rage that was boiling inside her chest for so many years about Regina Mills vanished. It was pretty clear that Regina was in a whole lot more pain than Emma. At least Emma had her supporting team by her side to help her go through the storm and feel loved. Regina had no one.
"What happened between you and Robin Regina?"
The blonde woman popped the question and swallowed hard in fear of the brunette's reaction.
"He's in jail."
She finally admitted and finished her drink with one big sip. She pressed her lips together feeling the alcohol burning her juicy lips and looked back at Emma who looked shocked.
"In jail?!? How? What did he do?"
She asked in confusion.
"He changed. The pain of loss changed him completely. At first I felt like it was my fault. After all I'm the reason why you guys experienced all that pain and grief in your lives... but then it got worst. He got out of control... he couldn't control himself and I had no power over him. I couldn't stop him. Instead of talking things out with me he preferred to punish me. To be honest I kinda feel like I deserved it considering the pain I caused but... Anyway! That's enough! He's in jail for now so end of story!"
Her voice was trembling. Her heart was beating faster and faster. She could already recall the pain of her wounds. The pain that the marks of the whip caused. Her wounds were burning her alive... robin wouldn't let her rest. Some days it would get worst...
She remembered that he would get back home drunk screaming the phrase -BURN THE WITCH-. That's what she was for him... a witch! She had managed to make an honorable man fall for her and give her the world and then turn him into a beast. She was the reason why his heart blackened.
She was the reason why he lost control. He lost his son... his friends... his home... her love wasn't enough to make him feel any better. He was in need for revenge! Cold and cruel revenge!
She shook her head making her thoughts go away and held her heavy head inside her shaky and sweaty palms. Emma could feel hot tears gathering at the corner of her eyes... Can you blame her? She was a human after all. She had a heart. She could feel compassion for others. Especially Regina Mills!
The evil queen changed... she had changed into a person that was aware of her actions. She was even willing to accept the consequences as well. She shook her hand to signal the bar man that they needed two more drinks.
"Gina..."
"Don't say a word. You know how much I hate it when people feel sorry about me."
Indeed. Emma Swan was sorry! She was not just sorry about Regina's shitty life... she was sorry for even daring to think that her problems were too many! At least she had her son and Killian! At least she was safe underneath the roof of her house and the love of her family.
Regina was alone. But she would never dare to admit that she needed help.
"You can't just blame yourself about Robin's unspeakable actions of hatred. You might helped him discover his dark side but her had no right to lay a hand on you!"
"Once upon a time ago he was innocent! He was an honorable thief stealing from the rich to give to the poor! That's what I call an act of kindness! Look at him now. I turned that kind man into a monster."
Her voice broke as her guilts decided to take over.
Emma pressed her lips together and held Regina's hands tight.
"The past is in the past Regina. You can still save your future."
She smiled charmingly at the brunette who didn't seem like she was in the mood to feel happy and optimistic. She just bowed down her head and grabbed the glass of whiskey...
"So... One more question."
Emma said through greeted teeth as she was pretty sure that Regina would totally flip out now. Instead of flipping out the brunette remained calm and just nodded her head.
"Do you ever miss Henry?"
Emma finally asked and Regina turned towards the brunette looking at her with wide eyes...
