A dull pain throbbed at the back of her head as Bonnie stirred awake. She groaned twisting around in a comfortable but unfamiliar bed. Her sheets certainly weren't silk. Unknown to her, the other person in the room who had been waiting patiently watched her awaken. He stood up from the chair beside the bed he'd been sitting in for the past few hours carefully regarding her before she gained consciousness.
Her eyes fluttered open taking in her new surrounding as she recalled everything that happened a few hours before.
The spell she cast.
The wolf that attacked her.
The one that saved her.
Her eyes widened when she finally saw him standing beside her bed looking at her in a way she couldn't place.
"You again," Bonnie sat up alarmed, shifting away from him.
"I'm not going to hurt you," He assured. The opposite in fact. Everything in him yearned to go to her and offer her comfort. Press her body close to his and hold her tight. To be with his mate. But she was disoriented and afraid with good reason. He needed to let her adjust or else her magic could lash out.
"Who are you?" Bonnie questioned gripping the comforter tight.
"My name is Klaus Mikealson," He introduced. "I believe you were looking for me."
"You've been in my dreams these past few days," She blurted out. The corner of his mouth twitched. Demi deserved a whole ice cream shop as it was. The little girl had been right on the money. If the witch was also getting dreams then their meeting had truly been orchestrated. "You're an original vampire."
"I am," Klaus studied her.
"You are also a wolf."
"I am a hybrid love. The original hybrid to be precise." she nearly smacked herself, that should have been obvious. Still the rarity of the species meant she'd never seen one and could use that to excuse her ignorance.
"That's why your eyes are golden," Bonnie remembered everything she learnt and Veronique's own warnings. She was in the presence of one of the most powerful beings in the supernatural world. But to her surprise she did not feel afraid. Cautious and curious yes, but not afraid. She licked her lips feeling them chapped, "Are you going to kill me?"
"I already said I wouldn't hurt you. I would like to know your name however and how you appeared so suddenly in the Bayou," Klaus inquired. He had felt her the moment she appeared. It filled him with inconceivable rage when he saw the brown wolf try to attack her. Right now, knowing everything about her was his priority.
She hesitated before answering, "Bonnie Bennett. I did a spell to lead me to the man in my dreams – to you."
Once again fate smiled upon him. Of bloody course the Bennett witch Cordelia had told him was intertwined with him turned out to be the same girl Demi had said he was meant to seek. And of course, she turns out to be his mate. With this amount of luck perhaps he should take up bingo.
"Bonnie," she shivered at the way her name rolled off his tongue. It certainly didn't help that he was more attractive than she'd expected. She'd imagined a tall menacing creature that resembled the archaic depictions of Dracula before Hollywood thought to make him hot. This creature was dangerous. She could feel the ancient power that made her spine tingle but the sight of his blue eyes, curly blonde hair and dimples gave her anomalous feelings.
"I will say it is wonderful to meet you," Klaus sat down once more. "I will also say that it seems several forces have engineered our meeting. To what end I am unsure of."
"You were seeing me too," She said crossing her legs and leaning against the headboard. He took it as a good sign. It meant that she was getting comfortable.
"In a way," He answered carefully. Mate or not, it would be prudent to limit the number of people who knew about Demi outside his family.
Bonnie huffed, "The why hasn't really been specified to me."
"I might have some additional insight," Klaus started. "One that might be far too intense for you at this point."
She frowned, "What do you mean?"
"How much do you know about wolves Bonnie?" He asked , moving his chair closer to the bed. The tingle intensified but there was still the absence of fear.
She shrugged her shoulders, "Enough."
"And mates?"
She frowned, "I do but what does that have to do with this?"
Klaus folded his arms across his chest. He didn't want to scare the already frazzled girl but the sooner she was informed then the sooner something could be done about it, "It seems that we might be in that exact situation."
an icy pang went through her heart. Her mind instantly went back to the card reading with Veronique.
An intense soul-bonding relationship is coming your way Bonnie. A powerful one at that.
This new relationship of yours will be nothing like you've ever experienced. You will be sharing parts of your body, mind and soul with this partner that you have never revealed to anyone before and vice versa.
She had a mate?
And her mate was an original?
The information was too hard to process.
"H-How did this happen?" She stuttered.
"I am unsure," Klaus admitted. "Although I think your benefactor might have an idea."
"Cordelia?" Bonnie said in confusion. "You know her?"
He noted that the supreme hadn't told Bonnie all the details. "I do."
That meant Cordelia must have known who she was talking about when she told her about her dream. But why didn't she tell her? Why did she keep it from her? The young witch couldn't help the bloom of hurt that came up within her chest. Did this mean she had been lying to her about other things? No, Bonnie shook the feelings of doubt away.
Cordelia was one of the few people she trusted. There had to be some good reason for that. She could hold off on any overreaction until she got an explanation.
Klaus noticed the conflicting emotions on her face, "Is something the matter?"
She chuckled looking down at her hands, "You just told me that we might be mates. I'm in shock. Delayed shock but still."
"Ah, well. This is a surprise to me too," He said. "I for one didn't think I had a mate. I certainly didn't expect to find her nearly mauled to death."
"Thank you for saving me," Bonnie thanked softly.
"I had no choice in the matter, love. I do have a vested interest in your safety, don't I?" the original chuckled surveying the young witch. She was nothing like he'd expected. Those green eyes were the most striking thing about her. Wide and bright like the emerald ring he'd been gifted by the tsarina centuries back. She was beautiful no doubt. All Bennett witches were. But there was an air about her, not quite innocent but still untouched to a point. Her magic was a great fizzling thing in its raw form. Unlearned until now but the potential was great.
He'd never imagined he would have a mate nor had he wanted one. It seemed unnecessary and distracting to his ambition. His vision had been his one and only companion, he wanted for no one else. Seeing this girl though made him...curious. Along with the circumstances of their meeting.
Her chest began to heave as her breathing became more erratic. It seemed the shock had finally settled in. The memory of the brown wolf snarling and snapping its jaws, the painful cuts on her feet from the forest floor debris, the cold stench of the alligator infested waters. Her death had been so close. Too close.
The glass on the bedside table next to her cracked before splintering into tiny pieces and scattering on the floor. This is what he sought to avoid. Her magic was lashing out as a result of the overwhelming news. Klaus cursed rushing off the chair to the bed. Truthfully it was not the smartest move to make but an unfamiliar instinct within him was propelling him to do so. He grabbed her hand and held it in both of his squeezing gently, "Calm down." his voice was a welcome snap back to reality.
Bonnie obeyed immediately, surprising the both of them. "What did you do to me?"
For one of the few times in his life Klaus was at a loss of words. Before either of them could speak further, there was a loud commotion coming from downstairs effectively bringing their first interaction to a halt.
"He's been in with the girl for hours," Rebekah whined lying on the purple velvet chaise in the drawing room with Demi sleeping soundly beside her. The little girl had tired herself out after playing all day in the garden and watching an accursed program called Dora the explorer. Rebekah did not think this Dora made a good role model with her tendency to run about without responsible parents in tow.
Klaus had brought an unconscious girl the previous night and shuffled her up to his bedroom without muttering more than three words to anyone. That had been hours ago.
Marcel and Elijah were perusing grimoires with Lourdes. "He'll come out when he's ready." Marcel reassured. His expression softened at the sight of Rebekah and Demi cuddled together. It made him incredibly happy how the two of them took to each other. His two favourite girls.
Rebekah had indulged maternal instincts he was sure she didn't even realize were there. It made him dream of things he'd sought to push at the back of his mind for years. Feelings that came up the moment the female Original arrived back in New Orleans.
"What's so special about this girl anyway?" She wondered out loud playing with the little girl's puffy hair. She had bought her a new shampoo that was much suited to her curly hair and was pleased with the results.
"She's his mate," Lourdes answered.
All three vampires snapped their attention to her. The witch raised an eyebrow, "The bond is still weak and has not been properly fostered yet but there is a connection between them."
"But I thought wolves could only mate with other wolves or humans?" Elijah questioned.
"Typically, yes but the occasional contact with a witch has come up. It's rare though," She explained flipping through pages. "My guess is that this witch has been specially ordained for Klaus."
"By the spirits?" Marcel asked.
"Perhaps. Perhaps not. The spirits are not the ultimate power when it comes to fate and balance you know," Lourdes commented. It was not a fact many knew but being in camp of the originals meant that they gave far from freedom that most covens to learn other doctrines of magic not limited to spirits and ancestors. Another thing that made her grateful to have found them. "But given who Klaus is, I suspect that a greater force than what we see is behind this."
"Is that good or bad?" Elijah questioned calculating.
Lourdes shrugged, "That remains to be seen but based on experience so far I would be pressed to believe it will be in your brother's favour."
"And the girl?" Rebekah continued to stroke Demi's head.
"We shall soon find out." There was a sudden crash downstairs that put everyone at alert.
One of the vampires rushed into the drawing room in distress. "Sir," He addressed Marcel.
"What is it?" Marcel asked.
"There's a witch downstairs. She's threatening to set two of our men on fire if she doesn't see Mr. Mikealson," He hurriedly explained. "She says he kidnapped some girl from her." the three glanced at each other before all rushing downstairs where they met an angry Cordelia with two struggling vampires pinned against the wall by an invisible force. She had one hand enflamed but it didn't burn her. It was ready to strike.
"Where is Bonnie?!" She shouted, glaring at them.
Elijah approached her slowly not wanting to inflame her further. He could feel the heat from the flame despite the considerable distance between them. It was a reminder of the extent of her skill, "Cordelia, I expected that our first meeting after all these years would be less abrasive. Could I ask the reason for such an entrance?"
"Forgive me if I'm not willing to share tea and crumpets with you since your brother kidnapped my girl," She snapped.
"Relax witch, we've kidnapped no one here," Rebekah folded her arms across her chest.
"Then how do you explain the fact that mere moments after I told Klaus about her, she disappears from my house and ends up here?" Her tone was dangerously accusing. The flame over her hand burned brighter.
"I brought her here," a voice from atop the stairs said. Klaus stood tall taking in the scene before him. Standing timidly beside him was the Bennett witch whose eyes widened at the sight of her benefactor ready to fry two vampires.
"Cordelia!" Bonnie breathed in relief rushing down the steps to her. Cordelia immediately released the vampires letting them fall into relieved piles and took the young witch in her embrace. She had been so worried imagining everything wrong that could have happened to her. "Are you alright? What happened to you?" She frantically checked Bonnie over for any marks or bites grateful to see her intact.
He sped down to face the supreme, "I found her in the Bayou nearly attacked by a wolf. She fainted and I brought her here."
"How did you get there Bonnie?" Cordelia questioned intensely. The wards around the house were untouched and intact so the only explanation she could conjure was that someone had teleported Bonnie away.
"I teleported myself by accident," Bonnie felt lightheaded recalling the events. "I merged a spell to find him."
"Do you not know how dangerous that is? You could have been seriously hurt. Merging spells is not a joking matter." Cordelia hissed in anger, her grip tightening. Klaus felt the urge to step in-between them and push Cordelia's hands off her. A low growl stirred in his chest at the sight of Bonnie being berated even with good intentions.
"I was trying to find the man in my dreams. Apparently, you knew it was him and you didn't tell me," Bonnie accused loosening her contact with the other witch and stepping back to where Klaus stood.
Cordelia pinched the bridge of her nose, "Bonnie you have every right to be unhappy about that but I promise you I had my own reasons I thought were good. I did need to find more information." And what she came across only added to her already existing pile of baggage. The moment Bonnie came down she could sense it. The lingering draw between the two of them. It was very faint; comparable to a thread in fact. But it was there and beginning to form. The beginning of a bond.
Oh sweet Bonnie.
The two were mates.
"It is a shame Delia. We had such a lovely talk last night but you failed to tell me that the witch I was intertwined with is actually my mate," the hybrid spoke in a deceptively cheerful voice. He was fishing to see if she knew and deciding what to do if she did and still kept it away from him.
"Trust me Klaus, if I did know before now, I'd have done something. This information came to me roughly the same time as it did for the two of you," Her steely tone assured.
Oh Emily, is this what you meant?
Bonnie truly was tied to Klaus. Mating amongst wolves no joking matter. What made this especially unique was that they had already formed a preliminary bond already. Such a bond needed a few days of constant contact to form but it had accelerated in their case.
"What's done is done. Now we must find a way to move forward in the light of all these new developments," Elijah reasoned. He glanced curiously at Bonnie who went back behind Klaus not even noticing herself how closely she had been inching into him. Klaus himself didn't seem to mind.
"I'm here to take her home. After a few hours of rest for Bonnie, we can figure this out later," Cordelia said, narrowing her eyes to discourage any argument.
"No. She stays here," Klaus refuted without thinking. After all that happened, he felt the only way his mate would be safe would be within the walls of the compound he resided. Cordelia would just have to deal with it.
"Since you've all seemed to forget I am an adult capable of deciding where I want to stay," Bonnie raised her voice annoyed at how they both seemed to forget she was in the room and the one they were arguing over. In truth, there was a lingering urge to remain with these people. But logic reminded her that despite whatever claim that they were mates, she didn't know them. She certainly didn't know Klaus. Not to mention that he and his family were considered dangerous and Cordelia didn't seem very happy with her presence here. The entire situation felt surreal and she still had a hard time believing it. Part of her was convinced it was a dream born from a head gash on the Bayou floor. The only place she was sure she'd feel truly safe and she could process everything was back in her bedroom. "I want to go home."
"Very well then," Cordelia was relieved, reaching for Bonnie.
Klaus clenched his jaw annoyed at her answer. Even more so he was angry at himself for being annoyed. Just a short time within meeting the young witch and he was already anxious about letting her leave. His wolf howled restlessly. He buried it down. Mate or not, he would not be controlled by anyone. "If all has been properly explained then, I shall contact you later Cordelia."
The supreme nodded stiffly, eager to get Bonnie out of there.
"I shall see you too then, young witch," He said to Bonnie in a softer tone reaching for her hand to squeeze gently. In turn, she hugged him, taking them both by surprise. Klaus was stiff in her embrace at first but eventually loosed to wrap his arms around her. Her scent of lavender and cinnamon seemed to ease his wolf. Bonnie felt light in his arms enjoying the feel of his warm and hard chest pressed against her. Her head tucked underneath his chin fitting perfectly like a puzzle. Something about it just felt right, felt good to her. Like something had finally clicked into place. Elijah, Rebekah and Marcel were all surprised too even though they hid it well. Cordelia just looked on with resignation.
"Ok," Bonnie whispered, pulling away.
"Well that was something," Marcel murmured watching the two witches leave and seeing his sire act so...accommodating with the young witch.
"I have so many questions," Rebekah stated from his side.
Klaus paid them no mind. "Lourdes!"
The violet-haired witch appeared, "Yes sir?"
"Come to my study. We have plenty to discuss," He commanded. He faced his brother, "Elijah, I would like you to use your contacts to find everything you can about Bonnie Bennett. Where she was born, went to school, her favourite restaurant, what brand of toothpaste she uses, every fucking thing. I want to know everything about her. Especially when Cordelia Valesquez came into her life."
"I will," Elijah affirmed.
Now he knew exactly who she was and why he was meant to find her. She was his mate and now he wanted to learn everything about her.
"We still haven't gotten closer to finding a cure for Demi," Marcel reminded worried.
"Don't worry about that. Cordelia and I met earlier to find a solution and I believe we may be close," Klaus assured patting his shoulder.
"She seemed pissed at you just a moment ago," Marcel sounded doubtful.
The hybrid smirked, "Oh I wouldn't worry about that. She's not angry and even if she was, it certainly wasn't directed at me."
The drive back to the mansion was silent. Bonnie faced the window all through the entire ride ignoring Cordelia. Once they arrived, she climbed upstairs without a word, not even sparing her or Bernard a look back. She wasn't angry. To be honest, her emotions were a confusing swirl she was yet to untangle.
Her room was still fairly intact. The spell circle she'd drawn and the pot with the potion were there. She wondered if Cordelia even searched there before finding out she was missing. Her phone was resting on her nightstand. A quick tap showed several missed calls from Cordelia and one from her Dad. He was asking how she was doing in London. That was the cover story they'd come up with. A quick but peppy reply would be enough to appease him.
Sighing, Bonnie sat on the edge of her bed. It felt different from the silk sheets she'd woken up in. Softer too. She wondered if Klaus would like her bed then frowned. Where did that come from? Shaking off all thoughts, Bonnie laid down on her backing facing the ceiling before slowly falling asleep.
She woke up just thirty minutes later. Her sleep was restless and tense. For whatever reason she was unable to feel comfortable. Everything, the sheets, the pillow, the blanket, felt wrong.
With a huff, Bonnie sat up from bed and went downstairs. Bernard was vacuuming the living room.
"Do you know where Cordelia is?" She asked.
"In her office," He answered kindly.
"Thank you."
Bonnie walked to the study and knocked gently. She waited a few seconds before hearing a soft "Come in."
She entered to see Cordelia sitting behind her desk with her book of shadows open before her. The supreme perked up at the sight of Bonnie. "Are you alright? How are you feeling?"
"I'm ok, all things considering," Bonnie admitted sitting down and crossing her legs. "I do have some questions to ask you."
"Feel free," Cordelia encouraged.
Bonnie bit her bottom lip looking down at her hands, "W-Why didn't you tell me you knew who I'd been dreaming about all this time? Why keep me in the dark?"
"Truthfully, there was a part of me that wanted to be very sure. The other part didn't want it to be true," She admitted tracing her fingers on the polished wood. "I'd been very hesitant to truly tell you everything about the Originals. It came from a place of wanting to keep you safe but now I realize that ignorance would do nothing but place you in danger." it had been the very thing Sheila did.
"You both knew each other, you and Klaus," Bonnie noted.
Cordelia nodded, "Yes, we've known each other for a very long time. I am the reason he became a hybrid."
Bonnie's eyes widened, "What are you saying?"
"I was the witch who aided him in breaking his curse," Cordelia explained interlocking her fingers together, "I met Klaus in 1913 in Mexico. I'd run away from my coven and family to escape an unwanted marriage. It was along the way I met him." she remembered feeling fearful at the sight of him. Witches told tales of his cruelty and exploits. The thousands he'd murdered without remorse and the blood of those he consumed. She'd been sure he would kill her. But instead, he stretched his hand offering her safety. Offering to the end the lives of those who'd hurt her. In return he asked for her loyalty and aid in bringing about a new order. Freedom from the strings of her father and brother.
"He and his family took me in," Cordelia recounted. "My father and brother were not good men. They ruled our coven cruelly brandishing their power over others and punishing those who did not agree. Whenever I refused to follow their commands, their anger turned on me." Bonnie felt a wave of sympathy for her reaching for her hand to hold.
Cordelia gave her a small smile. Though the memories had not faded away they no longer held her captive. She was stronger now and more powerful than they'd ever been. "Only my uncle was kind to me. My family had the moonstone which was required for the spell so I led them back to my hometown. It was there I found out my brother got married to a woman through an arranged marriage. The woman was Amelia Bennett."
That earned her a gasp. "That was how you met Amelia?" Cordelia had told her back in Mystic Falls that she knew her great grandmother and that she had made a promise to protect her line. But she never told her how they'd met.
"Yes," Cordelia had a fond expression. "She was pregnant with your great grandmother already. My brother, Tomas, was a fool who didn't deserve her. She was beautiful, kind and wonderful. She was also so talented. She taught me so many things. After I retrieved the moonstone, Klaus killed my father and brother so the leadership of the coven would fall onto me. Sadly, that didn't work out so well as they banished me for working with a vampire. I left and she came with me."
"They banished you? But I thought witches worked with vampires sometimes," Bonnie wondered.
"Yes. Most do but a lot don't do it happily. In fact, many openly despise them for the obvious reason that they drink blood. But my case was especially different since I happened to work with the Originals so I was left alone." Cordelia leaned back into her chair. Sometimes she felt their hatred was unjustified because not all vampires craved chaos and death. Some were simply trying to survive as best as they could. Just like not all witches were righteous servants of nature. Many were even more devious. A few came to mind. "After all that, we went to Mystic Falls where a doppelgänger was born."
"You mean like Elena?" Bonnies' brow furrowed. They had learned of Elena's doppelgänger heritage once the Salvatore's rolled into town. They explained that Elena was the descendant and clone of their first love Katherine Pierce, a doppelgänger. Apparently, something happened that caused her to be buried in the tomb with some other vampires but after Sheila had risked her life to open it, they found that she wasn't there. They hadn't explained what in particular happened. Thinking back, it made Bonnie feel stupid that she hadn't even tried to force more of an explanation out of them. Just Elena's pleas and the desire to give Damon what he wanted so he'd leave was enough for her.
And it had gotten Grams killed.
"Yes, like your friend Elena," Cordelia couldn't help but sneer. She had nothing against the Gilbert girl in particular but her predecessor was a headache and a half. "When the Mikealsons were turned into vampires, the witch who turned them used the blood of a doppelgänger to bind Klaus' werewolf side so it would remain dormant. The reason for this was well a bit too personal for me to tell you now." Perhaps in time Klaus would tell her himself. Gosh, the thought made her head hurt. Klaus was Bonnie's mate.
"So, to break the curse, it was required to spill the blood of a doppelgänger. Katherine had actually been the first doppelgänger tried it with a few centuries back but she turned vampire and ran away from him. We tracked her down to Mystic Falls where she had turned two brothers to be her protectors. The newest doppelgänger was a girl named Daisy." A spike of fear went through Bonnie. Was that what could have happened to Elena? And Cordelia had been part of this?
"You killed her?" her voice cracked. "I thought you said human sacrifice was the lowest and most egregious use of magic? But you did it for Klaus!?"
"No, she didn't die," Cordelia hurriedly assured. "She didn't die. We spilled her blood but she came back to life." Bonnie was visibly relieved at the revelation. Cordelia thought it best to leave the details of the werewolf and vampire sacrifice. "Once the curse was lifted Klaus became a complete hybrid."
"Then he made other hybrids," Bonnie added.
"Then he made other hybrids," Cordelia repeated. "Also using the blood of the doppelgänger. The transformation didn't always take. You need only the strongest and worthiest wolves to make a hybrid. Daisy struck a deal with him to supply him with her blood and give birth to continue the line in exchange for money and security."
"If that's the case then how come he never came for Elena?" Bonnie pointed out. "I mean, the only thing supernatural that happened to us started when Damon and Stefan came back into town. They didn't even tell us anything about the Originals or the sacrifice. Just Katherine. I mean the council knows about vampires but I don't think they know about them either. If he had such a vested interest in keeping their line for the blood then he'd have come for her a long time before."
Cordelia sighed, "Like I said, he's very discriminating with who he turns. Knowing him he probably got a witch to make him an always refilling vial of Daisy's blood when she died. Or he hasn't felt the need to make any in a while. I'll confess that after that we went our separate ways. I was on a quest to find myself and build a life with Amelia. After she died and I swore to protect her line, I cloaked myself while I travelled the world to harness achieve the knowledge to become Supreme. I thought it would help me to protect your line better but I got too carried away and lost sight."
"Whatever it is, I'm glad you're here now. You've saved me and helped me so much Cordelia," Bonnie said truly grateful.
Cordelia's smile was bittersweet, "If I had come earlier then maybe Sheila would still be alive. I would have stopped those wretched Salvatore brothers from using you the way they did. I would have stopped your mother from cloaking your magic."
"Why did she do it?" Bonnie's voice was small and unsure. It was always that way when it came to her mother. Cordelia had explained that it was the reason she was unable to find Bonnie at first. Their magic was like a signal; everyone had a signature that could be recognized and traced. Very skilled witches would find others using their signatures. But that wretched Abby Bennett found a way to bind Bonnie's magic. It also didn't help that Sheila didn't reveal their heritage hoping it would keep Bonnie safe.
"Your mother was unhappy being a witch," Cordelia hesitated. "By extension, she was unhappy with her child being a witch."
That hurt. Bonnie had always suspected that her mother left because of her. Confirming it felt like a stab wound to the gut. She felt her eyes blur with tears but forcefully blinked them back. Cordelia stood up and walked over to give her a hug. "Fuck her. Now and here, you will always have people who respect you for who you are and love you too."
Bonnie hugged her tighter, "Thank you again."
Cordelia stroked her hair lovingly. Bonnie cleared her throat and pulled away, "How did Klaus become my mate?"
This was the part she was dreading the most. "I don't know. I really don't. Wolves get their mates according to who nature determines will complement them best. Some have multiple and very few don't have any. Most don't get to meet their mates at all. Klaus having a mate is a very odd occurrence."
"He broke his curse a hundred years ago. I mean having his werewolf side unlocked probably unlocked his potential to have a mate," Bonnie reasoned.
"That makes sense," Cordelia agreed sitting on her desk. "But I still don't understand why you."
"Why don't you want it to be me?" Bonnie asked. She'd noticed how Cordelia was unhappy at the revelation that they were mates and how she refused to let Bonnie stay with them at their compound. It went beyond concern.
"Because Klaus, as much as I consider him a friend, is precarious and vicious," Cordelia looked distant and disturbed. "His reputation is well earned. Becoming a hybrid made him twice as powerful. Knowing that you are meant to be mated to him makes me scared for you Bonnie. You have too much light to be tied to such darkness."
Bonnie was reminded of last night where she saw him kill the wolf. The swirl of grey that surrounded him spoke of more than just darkness. But it was there.
"But if nature allowed it then there must be a reason," Bonnie rubbed her palm.
Cordelia rubbed her forehead, "Well, you have already formed a preliminary bond. I imagine that soon you will both feel longing for one another. The need to be in each other's presence. Then it will escalate. Once you are completely bonded then you will become connected in every way imaginable. That is what it means to be mated."
"That's...a lot," Bonnie admitted. Veronique had not been kidding then. That meant that there was more to come. Was Klaus the darkness coming to her life? Was he the choice she had to make? Whatever it was, she was ready to face it head on. This is what she's been learning for, preparing herself. She would not fail Cordelia or herself.
"Whatever it is, I'll be here for you every step of the way," Cordelia swore with everything within her.
Bonnie smiled knowing that she could always trust her.
In his study, Klaus sat staring intently at the contents of file Elijah had complied within a ridiculously short amount of time. His brother had an impressive network that collected information expertly. What they had gotten so far had been more than sufficient. Her grandmother had died two years earlier. That was probably what Cordelia blamed herself for.
He was studiously looking at a picture of Bonnie Bennett smiling at the camera in her cheerleading uniform a few years back. The next one was a picture of her smiling with a blonde friend that had been posted on social media. It was taken last year. It was the last picture of them together. Bonnie had transferred from Whitmore College in Virginia to New Orleans University. She was a philosophy major part-time. She also took dance lessons at a studio in the Garden District.
"She's so pretty. Just like in my dreams," Demi piped up from his lap.
"I have to agree with you," Klaus said, stroking her small head.
The little girl had woken up earlier and come to his study. Unable to turn her away, they'd both gone through the contents of her file together.
"So, was she nice when you met her?" Demi asked, swinging her legs.
"She was...interesting," Klaus remarked. He'd felt unsettled since her departure from the compound. Lourdes told him it was because of the bond. Once established, it made them feel the need to be closer to each other. He could still remember the feeling of her in his arms. Soft and warm. Far too delicate for a man like him to touch. Yet it felt like she belonged there and no other place.
"I'm glad. Because it would be really awkward if she wasn't," She declared fiddling with his fountain pen.
"Hmm, you don't say?" He said amusedly, pulling the expensive pen from her little hands.
"I had another dream," Demi spoke quietly. Taking in the change in her behaviour he held her closer. "What was it?"
"The bad people. They're looking for me again. I don't want them to find me," Her voice was filled with fear. Klaus held her face gently towards his, "I will never let anyone take you away. Do you hear me?" She nodded enthusiastically. "Do you promise?"
He released his fangs which seemed to amuse her more than scare her. "I promise."
It was one he intended to keep.
They finally meet! Do we love it? Do we hate it? Review and let me know!
