May muses 18: Cursed
Day 18 of May Muses! My idea for today: what if the Evil Queen got her hands on baby Emma before she went through the wardrobe?
Charming fought valiantly, but even he couldn't hold off that many dark knights. He tried so hard to get Emma to the wardrobe, but he knew he didn't have the energy to make it. So instead, he did the next best thing. He fell to the ground of Emma's nursery, mere feet from the vessel that would transport her to safety, with Emma tucked securely in his arms. He might not have gotten her to the wardrobe, but at least he would be with her as he took his last breaths. With that, Charming's world went black.
The pain radiated through Snow as she made her way down the war-torn corridors of her home.
It was over. They were going to lose. The Evil Queen's curse would be cast and they would be separated from the ones they loved. All that kept Snow going was knowing that her baby had escaped the curse, and that, somewhere near her nursery, Charming was. Snow had no idea what state he would be in. She was becoming delusional in her worry. She could swear as she got closer to Emma's nursery, she could hear her newborn crying out. Snow tried to block the sound out. It wasn't real. Emma was gone. She would not see her daughter for twenty-eight years. That is what Snow thought, right up until she opened the door. Her heart froze in her chest. There lay Charming in a pool of his own blood. Standing triumphantly above him was the Evil Queen, a baby in her arms. Snow and Charming's baby. Snow's own pain faded into the background at the sight that befell her. The Evil Queen chuckled darkly.
"Well, if it isn't Snow White. Come to join the party?"
"What did you do to my husband?" Snow hissed.
"Nothing. He was in this state when I arrived." The Evil Queen said simply. She held the baby out at arms' length.
"With this little bundle all cuddled up beside him. I guess he didn't quite manage to make it to the wardrobe? So, this is the so-called Saviour…"
"Give her back." Snow demanded, steadying herself for a fight. The Evil Queen tutted.
"Finder's keepers." She said tauntingly. "You were going to get rid of her, weren't you? Maybe I should hold onto her for safe keeping. Especially since you've been so careless with her so far…"
"I was putting her through that wardrobe to keep her safe from you." Snow snarled. "You can cast your damn curse, but you're not keeping my baby." Snow charged at the Evil Queen. Magic be damned. She was not keeping her daughter. The Evil Queen had no magic left. She had used it all casting the curse. So she was unable to prevent Snow charging at her and snatching the baby off her. Regina snarled, but knew she couldn't prevent Snow from having the brat. For now.
"You haven't won anything, Snow White. Now your brat is as cursed as everyone else." Regina hissed as she stormed out the room to revel in the destruction she had caused. Meanwhile, Snow fell to the floor beside Charming, Emma safely nestled in her arms. She kissed Emma and Charming, hoping it would wake the latter up, but nothing.
"At least we're all together." Snow whispered. Purple smoke began to surround them. Snow did her best to shield both Charming and Emma from it, but ultimately, there was nothing she could do.
