Draco Malfoy takes to hiding in broom closets when someone he really wants to avoid, appears. It is eighth year, the year after the Battle, the actual seventh Hogwarts year – call it what you will. Even after the Battle was over, the ghost of it still hung over him. The fact that he switched sides wasn't enough to convince half of them and the other half, the former Death Eaters, bore him a grudge which while not dangerous was nevertheless annoying and burdensome for him. So when he sees Pansy Parkinson – who, while not a Death Eater, was still his ex-girlfriend, he hurries to hide away rather than suffer through a confrontation with her. Seeing a narrow broom closet he hurries into it and to his delight, finds it empty of brooms. He gets in and closes the door and leans against the wall and thinks of the mountain of work he has yet to tackle, when another person, apparently with the same intention as him, jumps in. This unknown person, on finding another person already inside, yelps and he instantly recognizes the person
"Granger?" He asks uncertainly.
"Malfoy?" she replies, sounding as uncertain as he is.
"What are you doing here?"
"I'm here for the same reason you are."
"Avoiding your ex-boyfriend?" Even in the darkness, he can feel her smile.
He splutters. "No! From my ex-girlfriend. Now get out. There's not enough space for the two of us."
"It's just for a few minutes until he leaves", she whispers.
"But there's no room!" He yells indignantly.
"Oh just shut up!" she says angrily.
He was about to retort when he hears it - Pansy's high-pitched giggle. He wisely decides to keep his mouth shut – losing an argument to Granger was bearable compared to the alternative of being found out by Pansy.
He hears Weasley's obnoxious voice too and in response, Granger unconsciously presses against him, probably to stop herself from falling out of the closet. He feels her hair pressing into his chest, her skirt grazing his pants and he takes a deep breath and is pleasantly hit by the smell of her hair. He loves it, so he takes another. Outside, they hear Pansy and Ron in conversation but he can't bring himself to care. After the sounds of conversation die out, Granger waits a whole minute before opening the door, but frankly, he doesn't mind. She peeps out, does a cursory sweep of the surroundings and steps out with a curt bye.
Draco impulsively runs after her and says, "Granger, wait."
She turns, confused.
"What do you put in your hair? It smells quite nice."
She looks more confused than he has ever seen her. "Just n-normal shampoo."
He leans in, so close her hair grazes his skin, and takes a strand of her hair in his hand and twirls it around. "It smells really good," he says, staring at her, her hair still in his hand.
He straightens up and says, "Well, see you in class, Granger."
He walks away, loving the fact that she was blushing.
