May muses 19: Never alone

Day 19 of May Muses! My idea for today is based on a picture I saw on Facebook, so I'm going to leave it as a surprise ;).

Emma didn't know a person could hurt as much from the inside. She had loved him. She thought he loved her. Clearly, she was wrong. Emma didn't think this pain would ever go away. She curled up in a ball, her blanket pressed against her chest. Emma's tears dribbled down her face and onto its soft fabric. How could he have left her like this? He promised her they'd be forever. Emma's mom had always told her love was such a wonderful thing. Right now, Emma didn't think so. She never wanted to be in love ever again.

Snow had thought Emma was coping. She had told her mom that she and Jeffrey had split up, but that she was over him anyway. Snow had no idea that her daughter was upstairs crying her eyes out. That was until a gut feeling told her to check Emma one last time before she went to sleep. The sight made Snow's heart break. Her poor baby girl.

"Oh Emma." Snow said from the door. "Sweetheart, I had no idea you were so upset." Emma tried to quickly wipe her eyes.

"I'm not." She lied. "I'm fine mom." Snow frowned. She knew Emma was guilty of burying away her emotions, but she wasn't letting her bury this. The first serious breakup can be tough. Snow came over to the bed and took Emma's hand. Confused, Emma got up and followed her mom. Snow led Emma to her room.

"You're not spending the night alone." Snow told her quite simply. "I'm not leaving you in there to cry yourself to sleep. Come on," Snow got in her side of the bed, "tell mom all about it." Emma wasn't able to hold it back any longer. Once again, she burst into floods of tears.

"I thought he loved me!" She wailed. She crawled in beside her mom, resting her head against her mom's chest. Snow wrapped her arms comfortingly around Emma, rocking her ever so slightly.

"I know." Snow said soothingly. "He's a douchebag." Emma nodded, crying too hard to speak. Snow didn't say anything else, she just let Emma cry it out until she cried herself to sleep, but at least she wasn't alone. Snow continued to hold her teenaged daughter long after she fell asleep.

"I wish you were here, Charming." Snow whispered. "I wish we had found you by now. You'd know what to say to make her stop crying." Snow felt so lost with how to make Emma feel better when all her problems were all so big and scary now. She couldn't make them all go away like she could when Emma was little. All she could do were things like what she was doing right then and there, hold her close and remind Emma that she was never alone.
