Author's Notes: Great so you've made it here to Chapter 1. I guess that means the prologue wasn't too bad. This is my first fanfiction story ever so be nice or don't that's okay too I can take it. I have to start with saying this is a Lou/Jimmy story so I'm sorry for all those Lou/Kid fans out there. Honestly, when I first watched this show as a young teenager I was a die-hard fan of Lou and Kid. It wasn't until I went back and watched reruns as an adult that I felt there was so much more to the Lou/Jimmy relationship that I wanted. So with that said, here's Chapter 1. Thanks for reading and hope you enjoy.
Chapter 1
Rachel showed Lou and her son in the house. It had been four years since she had been home. Lou and Rachel had written several letters to each other over the years, but Lou usually only shared the positive points in her life. She hated sounding defeated in her correspondence. After all, she didn't want to let on that her marriage had been a failure from the start.
Rachel could tell Lou wasn't quite ready to talk. "Honey would you like to rest up? You must be exhausted from your trip. I'll take care of Jamie."
"He's hungry Rachel. I should really find something for him to eat."
"Don't worry I'll find him something. You must be starving as well?" Rachel said to Lou.
"No. I'm mostly tired. I think I'll take you up on that offer to rest but I'd like to clean up first. Is that alright?"
"Of course"
It was good to be home. That was the last thought Lou had before waking up in Rachel's spare room a couple hours later. She wasn't sure where she was at first. She must've been more tired than she thought. She sat up and felt more herself than she had in years. She headed downstairs and followed the giggles into the kitchen where she found Jamie eating a cookie and telling Rachel an apparently funny story.
Rachel noticed Lou watching from the doorway. "I promise he had a good supper first. Why don't you sit down and I'll make you a plate."
"Thanks Rachel."
"Now while I do that, you tell me what brought you here."
"It was a stagecoach Rachel. They go all the way to Richmond."
"Now look who's being funny!" Rachel hollered from the kitchen. Something told her she wasn't going to get the answers she wanted just yet.
Lou said nothing else until Rachel came back with a plate of food and sat it in front of her. "Thanks again Rachel. I'm real sorry for just showing up like this, but…"
When Rachel realized she wasn't going to say anything else she sat down in the chair opposite her and simply said "It's no problem." After a few minutes of silence while Lou ate, Rachel asked "Will the two of you be staying for a while?"
"We're home Rachel. I ain't going nowhere."
"Good" was all she said even though she wanted to ask so much more.
