NOTE: *Dutch Translation*
Rose was at the Police Station with Sarah after she crashed her go-kart thanks to Norman Price. They were asleep after a long day while Sam was on the flight back to Pontypandy, Rose had taped Sarah's arm in a bandage because she had a bruise from the crash. Charlie and Bronwyn were with James, and they were already aware of Sarah at the Police Station after Rose called them. Malcolm came in and set his hat down on the table, he just finished his patrol and talking with Norman and Dilys about the crash earlier today. Rose came out and saw Malcolm in the office, she was surprised that he came back. "PC Malcolm, anything from the British Embassy?" she asked.
"Yes, they just let me know that Sam is on the plane heading back now."
"Good, I think we need someone to pick him up at the airport. I'll see if someone from the Fire Station can pick him up."
"No problem, Sergeant. Any news on Sarah?"
"She's still asleep right now, I think I better keep an eye on her until the sun rises."
"Right, you are."
"I'm going back to bed, I got to find Sarah and keep her company. I'll see you early in the Morning, PC Malcolm."
"Ok, Sergeant."
Rose went back to where Sarah was and slept on the bed right beside her and fell asleep. Malcolm went back to work with a cup of tea beside him, as he had to file some police reports to HQ in Newtown. He was relieved that Sam was safe and sound on his flight.
In the Air,
Sam was catching up on some news from Europe while Matt was checking his Chicago Fire Department working hours using the In-Flight WiFi. Kelly was already asleep for the long flight, and Chris was catching up on the latest from America. Sam was reading the magazine when a Flight Stewardess came up and asked him if he needed anything. "Is there anything I can provide you with, sir." she asked.
"Oh, I'm all set, but I could do with some water. Could I have a cup of water with no ice, please?"
"Sure, I'll have it right out for you."
"Thank you."
Just as Sam was getting comfortable for a long nap, the captain came on the P.A and addressed the passengers an update on the arrival into Amsterdam and weather information from the Control Tower.
English translation: "Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. I'd like to give you an update on our flight status right now, we are currently over Estonia and we will soon be passing through Latvia with our arrival Time in Amsterdam now being approximately around 3:15 in the afternoon. The weather in Amsterdam is clear and sunny with a temperature of 29 degrees Celsius, winds are currently in a northern direction, and visibility is currently clear with a clear view of the city. Once we have clearance from air traffic control, we will be landing on the northern runway which is Runway 18 Left. I'd like to thank you for choosing KLM and we wish you a pleasant flight. If there is anything we can do to make your flight more enjoyable, feel free to let our cabin crew members know, and we'd be happy to assist you. Thank you, and enjoy your flight."
Sam was very delighted to hear that the weather is clear in Amsterdam and there won't be any trouble for the duration of the flight. So, he went to take a nap until they reached the Ocean between Finland and Sweden. The Flight Stewardess came back with some water and Sam accepted it. "Thank you very much." he said.
"You're welcome, sir."
Sam enjoyed a cup of water before settling down for a nap while Matt was working on his post from Chicago Fire. Chris was already asleep and Kelly was also asleep, Sam decided he grabs a pair of eyeshades and settles in for the long nap during the flight.
Back in Pontypandy,
Sarah was woken up to see Rose right beside her, she had been asleep since they taped her arm in a bandage at the Police Station. Rose can see that she was just waking up from her sleep last night. So, she sat down on the bed and Sarah held onto her hand. "Morning, Sarah. Did you sleep well last night?" she asked.
"Yes, Sergeant. I had so much to dream about, I couldn't think of which one to talk about."
Rose laughed and Sarah had thought that was funny too. She managed to text James that she was on her way over, but James texted back saying that he was picking her up with Bronwyn. "I think I forgot to tell you that your mum is coming with your brother because your dad is in Newtown." Said Rose.
"I know. James just texted me the same thing."
"Come on, let's get everything ready. I'm really sorry if Norman caused trouble to your go-kart. I know it was not yet dark and you were heading home on your go-kart, but by the time I finished, we had dinner and then you looked tired. So, I had to make sure you were ready for bed and that you were asleep. I might've done the same to myself too."
"Really?"
"Yeah, I did that like a long time ago when I was your age."
Sarah and Rose went to the lobby to find some breakfast Malcolm had made before he left for his duties. They saw some pancakes, and sausages with some tea to drink right in the kitchen where Rose leaves her lunch just in case she is out on patrol.
Back at the Fire Station,
Station Officer Steele was with PC Malcolm when he heard about Sam on his way back. Station Officer Steele looked around and decided to call for the firefighters in his office. They came into the office and Ellie looked like she was worried about Sam after she had heard he was missing in China. "Right, as you know, Fireman Sam has been located by the Chinese authorities and he is on his way back to Pontypandy. I need someone to take a long drive to Cardiff Airport and pick him up." He said.
"I can pick him up in Venus, sir. He said by text that he is bringing his friends from America with him." Penny called.
"Alright, Penny. I think that will just complete the task. You better get going."
"On my way, sir."
Penny went down to the garage to find the keys to Venus and drive 4 hours to Cardiff Airport. She was very pleased that Sam was safe and sound. So, she grabbed the keys to Venus and drove to long route to Cardiff Airport.
In Amsterdam,
Sam's flight has just landed at the Airport and they were arriving at the gate. Sam was very pleased with the time they arrived at when he checked his watch. The time showed 15:10 on his watch based on Local time. He just looked around his seat area to check for loose Items like his phone, but then he heard the announcement on the P.A from the cabin crew.
English Translation: "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Amsterdam, and The Netherlands where the local time here is 3:10 in the afternoon, for your safety please remain seated with your seatbelt fastened until the fasten seatbelt signs have been switched off. You may now use your cell phones and other small portable electronic devices. Before leaving the aircraft, please make sure you have all of your personal items and check your seat area for smaller items you may have brought on board with you. On behalf of the Captain and the entire crew, we'd like to thank you for choosing to fly with us today on KLM and we wish you a very enjoyable stay. If you are travelling further, we wish you a safe and pleasant onward journey. Thank you and goodbye."
Sam had enjoyed the flight and was very proud to be back in Europe, he then checked the time and he realized his flight leaves for Cardiff in over an hour. He looked at Matt, then Chris, and then Kelly. They all were on the same flight to Cardiff and Sam received a Text from Penny that she is picking him up at the airport in Cardiff. The plane had come to a stop at the gate and seatbelt sign turned off, then he gathered everything he had on the plane with them, and made his way to the transfer area.
Out in Pontypandy,
Rose and Sarah arrived at the Cafe, but the door was locked. Sarah was looking around and there was no sign of them anywhere. Rose went back to the car with Sarah and they were surprised no one was there. It had been 2 hours since they didn't show up to pick up Sarah at the Police Station. "Where do you think they have gone, Rose?" Sarah asked.
"I don't know, but we waited long enough. James said he was coming here, right?"
"Yeah, I don't know where they went."
Just as Rose was about to call Malcolm, Jupiter pulled up and Ellie was surprised to see them when she stopped outside the area. "Hello, you two. Need any help?" Ellie asked.
"Yes, you haven't seen Bronwyn and James anywhere, have you? Charlie's out in Newtown."
"No, but I think James is over at the Fire Station. He was worried about Sam last night, and there was a fire earlier this morning as they were asleep. We don't know who did this yet."
"Oh, Ok. Can you take Sarah with you. I'm needed to help PC Malcolm with an emergency."
"Sure, I'll make sure that she gets there safe."
Rose turned to Sarah and took a knee to her level. Sarah had noticed where James was after she texted him and he texted back the news. "Sarah, do you mind going with Ellie to the Fire Station until your mum and dad arrive? I'm sure James is there." She asked Sarah
"I don't mind at all. It'll be great to see him again after yesterday."
"I'm sure it will be a good time for you. Your uncle Sam is coming home today."
"I can't wait to see him again."
Rose made sure that Sarah was in Jupiter and Ellie helped with Sarah's go-kart pieces that have broken after the crash and Malcolm checked for evidence, but couldn't repair it. She later drove off to help PC Malcolm while Ellie and Sarah drove Jupiter back to the Fire Station.
Out in Amsterdam Airport,
Sam, Matt, Kelly, and Chris have arrived after making their way through the transfer hall. It was a long walk because of the security and the passport checks after arriving in Europe from China and connecting to their next flight. It wasn't until they saw the gate for their flight to Cardiff. The plane hasn't even boarded and they had about 20 minutes until they board the flight. Sam looked at the time and was right. "Well, what do you want to do?" Sam asked.
"I know, we can catch up on what we heard at the conference yesterday." Matt replied.
"or we can find somewhere to eat and take it to-go like say, a grab and fly store." Chris added.
"We already did that, Herrmann."
"How about we just find out who's picking us up at the airport." Kelly added.
"Already done. You guys need a rental car, though." Sam added.
"Who's picking us up, Sam?" Matt asked.
"My friend Penny. She's picking me up in Venus and you 3 are getting a rental car."
"Already done, Sam." Chris replied.
"Wow, you're faster than I am."
"Maybe, but when it comes to firefighting, you're the fastest."
"That's true."
Just then, they heard an argument happening and the police have arrived to arrest the person who started it, not until an injury happened. There was a lot of chaos at the gate as Passengers were recording the whole thing. "Guys, I think they need help." Matt said knowing someone was hurt.
"You're right. I'll make sure the area is clear. Sam, you take care of whoever is injured. Casey, I need you to find airport staff and have them come to gate D6. Herrmann, call the emergency services while Sam takes care of it?" Kelly replied.
"Yes, sir." They said together.
Sam went to deal with the casualty behind the counter of the KLM boarding gate. He can see that it was a broken nose, broken glass to the hand, and a possible head injury. At that point, Sam knew that he needed to hurry up. He reached for his bag and pulled out a first aid kit until Airport staff had arrived. "Hey there, are you hurt anywhere?" he asked.
"No, I can't believe that passenger did this to me."
"I know, but he's gone now, and help is on it's way. I just need to see the damage he did to you. Can you tell me your name?"
"Brenda, I work as the Gate Agent for this flight."
"Ok, Brenda. My name is Sam, this is Matt, Kelly, and Chris. We're firefighters from around the world and we are on this flight. I will do everything I can to take care of you."
"Thanks, but aren't you Fireman Sam from Pontypandy?"
"Yes, I am."
"Oh my. I am actually talking to the Fireman Sam."
"Oh yeah."
"I can't wait to tell your station officer about how you managed to help me when you needed to."
"Me too. Right, Let's clean the mess on your hand until an ambulance arrives to help us."
Sam was pulling out some cleaning supplies from the first aid kit and Matt found Airport staff nearby. Chris was on the phone with Emergency services and they answered it in dutch and he knew his dutch speaking skills. So, he put them to the test and told them what happened in translation. *"SOS Alarm 112, welke service heeft u nodig?"*
*"Ambulance abstublieft."*
*"Ja, mijn naam is Chris Herrmann. Ik ben brandweerman bij de brandweer van Chicago."*
*" Oh, oke. waar bel je vandaan?"*
*"Ik bel vanaf Schiphol bij Gate D6, wachtend om aan boord te gaan van KLM-vlucht 1063 naar Cardiff."*
*"Oké, er is een ambulance onderweg naar uw locatie, hij is hier over ongeveer 2 minuten."*
*"Oké, heel erg bedankt."*
*"Graag gedaan. Fijne dag."*
*"Jij ook, tot ziens."*
Phone call translated to English: "SOS Alarm 112, what service do you require?"
"Ambulance, please."
"Ok, what happened?"
"We just witnessed someone with a possible injury, and there are some people taking care of her. A passenger had launched the KLM Gate Agent into the information screen and got very angry. The police now has him in custody. It looks pretty bad but we don't know."
"Oh, dear. Can I get your name, sir?"
"Yes, my name is Chris Herrmann. I'm a firefighter with the Chicago Fire Department."
"Alright, where are you calling from?"
"I'm calling from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport Gate D6 waiting to board KLM Flight 1063 to Cardiff."
"Ok, an ambulance has been sent to your location, it'll be here in 2 minutes."
"Ok, Thank you so much."
"you're welcolme , have a good day."
"you too, bye."
Chris hung up the phone and went back to where Sam was. He can see that Sam was working to keep her company until the ambulance arrived. So, he turned to him and told him the news. "Ambulance should be here in 2 minutes, Sam." Chris said.
"Ok, thanks, Chris. I'm going to see if we can move her to a spot where they can take care of her."
"Good idea, Sam."
Sam had finished taping up Brenda's hand in a bandage until the paramedics can arrive and take over before they board the flight. Brenda was so pleased that Sam was taking great care of her. He then looked around and found a safe spot."Why don't we move you to an open seat to make it easy for the paramedics to look at you. Ok, Brenda?"
"Ok, Sam."
"Alright, come on. let's get you up from behind the counter."
Sam and Matt were carefully moving Brenda to an open seat for the ambulance crew to have access to take over for them. Just then, the ambulance arrived at the gate and another gate agent arrived to take over her duties. An announcement was later heard from the agent.
English Translation: "Ladies and Gentlemen, we would like to begin the boarding process for KLM flight 1063 service to Cardiff. Please have your boarding pass out and passport opened to the picture page. At this time we are inviting anyone on our frequent-flyer program, families with small children, passengers who require additional assistance, and those in first class and Business class."
The Paramedics have arrived and Chris told them what happened and Sam had everything ready after they cleaned up themselves. Matt collected his bags and Kelly joined them, Chris later told them the number to the Chicago Firehouse 51 and Pontypandy Fire Station. Sam turned to Brenda who was with a paramedic and he knelt beside her. "Brenda, I'd like to say thanks for having me take care of you until Paramedics arrived. I have a number for you to call my fire station at." he said.
"Thanks, Sam. You're the best firefighter I have met."
Sam gave Brenda a business card and she placed it in her coat pocket and shook his hand before Matt called for him. "Sam, it's time to go." Matt called at the boarding desk.
"Coming, Matt."
Sam and the three Chicago firefighters have made their way to the plane and boarded their flight after their boarding passes were scanned and passports verified. Sam was at a window seat on the Plane. It had two seats on each side and Sam was seated next to Chris. Matt was seated next to Kelly and they were soon on their way to Cardiff where Penny was waiting.
Back in Pontypandy,
Station Officer Steele was checking his emails when he recieved a call from a number he had never seen before. He saw it was Penny and he picked up the phone. "Penny, any luck on Sam's flight?"
"Yes, sir. It had just left Amsterdam about 20 minutes ago and Sam should be home in Wales shortly. I'm already in Cardiff, I just need to drive to the airport and pick him up."
"Excellent. Sam just texted me before the plane door was closed that an emergency had happened where he was and he had to administer first aid to a KLM gate agent."
"Oh, dear. I'll ask him later when he lands in Cardiff."
"Alright, Penny. I'll see you later."
"Bye, sir."
Penny and Station Officer Steele ended the call and Penny continued her drive to Cardiff Airport. She was wondering what had happened to have Sam spring into action. So, she drove to the airport and continued along the road with Venus.
Up in the air,
Sam was enjoying an in-flight meal when he looked out the window and saw the United Kingdom below. He got a view of London and took some great photos. He was thinking about what Station Officer Steele would say about him springing into action before boarding the flight when he had to help Brenda. "Sam, you good?" Chris asked.
"Yeah, Chris. I'm fine, I just can't believe I had to help a KLM Gate Agent after she was hurt hitting the information screen."
"Well, I'm sure Station Officer Steele will tell you it's ok. He probably heard about it."
"Yeah, and maybe Chief Boden would tell us the same thing when we return to Chicago, Chris." Matt added.
"You right there."
Just then, an announcement was heard on the P.A as they started their descent into Cardiff.
English Translation: "Ladies and Gentlemen, we will soon be arriving at Cardiff airport. Please make sure that all of your items are secured in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you, and that your seatbelt is securely fastened. Don't forget to check that your window is open and the area around your seat is completely clear. We will be landing from the direction of Newtown, Downtown Cardiff, and Pontypandy. It will be a short taxi to the gate, and those returning to Cardiff will be directed to UK Border Control. Anyone making a connection will be directed to the flight connection area. We would like to thank you for choosing KLM for your choice of travel today, and enjoy the rest of your flight."
Sam had finished his meal and cleared the area around him. He looked out the window and saw the Pontypandy Fire Station below them. He can see the area of Pontypandy with Pontypandy Mountain and Wallaby 2. As they approached Cardiff, he saw Venus heading for the Airport knowing Penny was on her way.
At Cardiff Airport,
Penny was arriving with Venus' lights on. It wasn't long until she realized the parking lane she was in was a loading zone and the police from South wales came by. "Madam, is there anything we can help with?" the officer asked.
"Yes, I'm just here to pick up Fireman Sam here and I have an emergency vehicle here. Is it ok if I park Venus here?"
"Sure, just leave the blue lights on."
"Not a problem, thanks."
"Anytime."
Penny went into the Airport and found the arrivals hall. there were other people waiting to pick up the person they were waiting for. She went to Venus and held a sign that said "Fireman Sam" with the Fire Service logo on the sign. She was so pleased that Sam had made it safe to Cardiff. Just then, Passengers from Flight 1063 coming from Amsterdam had arrived. She was still waiting for Sam, Matt, Kelly, and Chris until they made it out with expedited entry into the country. Sam saw Penny and made his way to her with the 3 Chicago Firefighters. Sam and Penny hugged each other after he was safe in Cardiff after he was reported missing in China. "Hi, Penny. I'm home." Sam said to her.
"I know, Sam. We still need to get to Pontypandy, Station Officer Steele was worried about you, even Elvis, Arnold, and Ellie. Ellie was in tears because she was worried you never made it."
"Was she?"
Penny nodded and Sam had held on to the luggage cart he brought from the baggage claim. He then turned back to Penny and introduced her to the three American firefighters. "Penny, I almost forgot to invite you to meet my friends from the conference in China. This is Matthew Casey, Kelly Severide, and Chris Herrmann. They work in the Chicago Fire department. Matt, Chris, Kelly, this is my second leading firefighter Penny Morris. She is one of the firefighters joining me in the Pontypandy Fire Service."
Penny met Matt, Chris, and Kelly, they were so pleased to meet her when they arrived. Sam looked at his watch, he noticed they need to drive back to Pontypandy. So, he grabbed the luggage cart and pushed it to where he can see Venus. "Shall we head back to Pontypandy, Penny?" he asked her.
"Of course, Sam. I'll drive us home."
"Thanks, Penny. They've gone to get a rental car here at the airport. We'll meet them in Pontypandy at the Fire Station."
Sam had texted Matt the address to Pontypandy Fire Station and then Penny drove Sam in Venus back to Pontypandy. He was so pleased to be back home after a long flight from China, and two emergencies, one of which had involved him reported missing. He texted Station Officer Steele he has arrived and Steele texted back letting him know that they're all waiting to see him back in Pontypandy.
