CHAPTER 6

Eddies POV

The sun poured through my window as I glanced to the other side of the bed. Patricia still wasn't here. Nor was Luna. I ran down the stairs in hopes of finding them eating their breakfast. Instead, my dad was drinking a cup of tea.

"Where's Patricia and Luna?" he asked.

"I have no idea. Patricia wasn't here when I got home last night." My stomach dropped. Her keys were gone but most of her things were still at the house. My phone began to buzz in my pocket. It was an unknown number.

"Hi Eddie." I couldn't recognize the voice at the other end of the line.

"Who is this?" I demanded.

"I have something of yours. Well more like someone. Actually somebodies. If you would like to see the mother of your child and your daughter again, I suggest you listen to my words very closely. You have 48 hour to get me the mask of anubis or 250,000 pounds."

"And if I don't?"

"Oh I think you know what will happen. I will send an address of where to leave either the mask or the money. If you tell anyone, you will be putting your daughter's life in danger. You have 48 hours."

The line went dead.

"Oh my god." All I could do was stare at my phone in my hand. I didn't know what to say. "Shit shit shit. Dad, we have a problem."

I told him what had just happened.

"I'm gonna call Fabian, he'll know what to do."

"Should I call Patricia's mom?" my father asked.

"No, not yet at least."

Running up the stairs, I punched Fabian's number into my phone. After I explained the whole situation, he said he'd be on his way. He had just moved back to the UK after living in Sweden. His parents' house was about a 90 minute drive from us. I didn't know what else to do. Should I call Sibuna. They're the only ones that would know what to do. I had to call her mom. But I knew that all the truth would have to come out. I dialed her mother's number into my phone. It rang for 30 seconds before she picked up.

"Hello," she answered.

"Hi MRs Williamson, it's Eddie Miller. I'm sorry to bother you right now but we have a situation."

"What do you mean we have a situation?" she replied with confusion.

"It's Patricia, she's been kidnapped."

The line went silent for almost a minute.

"I'm leaving London now."

--

Mrs and Mr Williamson walked through the front door 3 hours later.

"What the hell is going on?"

"All I know is Patricia and Luna are being held somewhere. The kidnapper is demanding we get them an ancient egyptian artifact or 250,000 pounds."

"What artifact?" Mr. Williamson asked.

"The mask of anubis."

"What does the mask of anubis have to do with Patricia and Luna."

"A lot more than you think. Luna-" I didn't know how to phrase this. "She's special. I know this is going to be hard to believe, but she has special powers." She looked at my with skepticism in her eyes.

"What do you mean special powers?" Mrs Williamson asked, taking a step closer to me.

"She's the Osirian. An ancient egyptian descendant of the god Osiris. Her role on this earth is to protect. We don't have time to get into the details of everything. But we can't let the police get involved. If we do we put Luna in even more danger. I don't even know how someone would've gotten this information."

Fabian had arrived about an hour before and was doing research on the Osirian and the mask upstairs. We had no idea where to start. Just as the Williamsons arrived, he came running down the stairs.

"I think I know who took her," Fabian declared. We all gathered around his laptop.

"Think about it. The only person who could've known about the mask of anubis and you being the Osirian. Who else wanted that mask as much as Rufus did?"

It hit me like a freight train.

"Vera." She was the only one that could've known.

"Who's Vera?!" Mrs Willamson demanded.

"She was a woman who was after this mask about 3 years ago. She was willing to do whatever it took to get this mask. The voice on the phone was familiar," I turned back to Fabian. "This would explain it all."

"What's the plan now?" Mr Williamson asked.

"First we call in reinforcements."

--

After I had called my fellow Sibuna members, KT and Alfie were the only ones in the country that could get here. When they arrived, we went straight to work. Fabian was able to hack into a CCTV camera and was able to pinpoint Patricia's car. However, we weren't able to track her car long as some of the cameras couldn't be hacked. Then I received a weird call.

"Is this Edison Miller?" it was a man's voice on the other line.

"Yeah."

"It looks like we have a car here in your name. It seems to be totaled. Nobody involved in the accident reported the incident."

"May I ask who's calling?" I asked.

"This is Detective James from the Liverpool Police Department."

Shit. The police were involved. Exactly what I didn't want. This was Patricia's car. If the crash was serious enough she must've been hurt. Where are they?

"We were only able to find the one car, we have no other reports of any damaged cars. There's a detective on their way to your address now to ask some questions about the case."

Just then, I heard a loud knock at the door. Everyone in the room turned to stare at the door while I walked over to open it. As I opened the door, a woman stood there in uniform. She was maybe 40, less than 5 feet tall with dirty blonde hair.

"Hi are you Edison Sweet?"

"Yes ma'am." At first she was taken aback by my American accent.

"I have a few questions for you. May I come in?"

"Of course," I stepped aside and opened the door wider so she could step inside. I offered her tea but she declined. We both went to sit down on the couch with the Williamsons and Fabian. The detective pulled out her notebook and a black pen.

"First off, I'm detective Van Burr. Did you know your car was gone?"

"My girlfriend and daughter had taken the car out yesterday morning."

"Did you know where they were going?"

"No."

"Do you know where they are now?"

"No."

"Why didn't you report their disappearance?" I knew I had to tell her. But, I couldn't mention the Mask.

"The morning they disappeared, Patricia, my girlfriend, and I got into a fight. I left to go to work and didn't hear from her all day. When I got home at about 7 at night, neither of them were back. I was worried but I had just assumed she decided to stay at her friend's dorm. This morning I received a call from an unknown number. "

"What did the person on the other end say." I took a deep breath.

"They told me that they were keeping Patricia and my daughter Luna held captive and I had 48 hours to get them 250000 pounds."

"Why didn't you report this to the police?"

"The kidnapper said that if I did, they would hurt them." Detective Van Burr rubbed her temples.

"The problem with this case is it's a case of national security. Since Mrs. Williamson is such a high level government official, we must notify the national government. We can't take this case alone. Do you have any idea who the kidnapper may be?"

"I have a hunch," I responded. "Our house mother when we were in boarding school. I recognized her voice on the other line. Her name is Vera Devinish. I haven't had any contact with her in years though."

"Alright. Thank you for the leads. There will be MI5 agents in contact hopefully soon."

"If the car was totaled, does that mean she'll be injured?" Van Burr took a second to respond to my question.

"There was a good amount of blood by the driver's seat. Not enough to kill her but she is probably injured, yes." I had to keep my composure. If I lost it, I would be useless to the investigation. I had to stay objective.
