Chapter 18
Jimmy had been gone almost a week when he rode into town early Sunday morning. He had been wounded in the leg but had been successful in helping capture the outlaws who had been robbing banks throughout the territory. What he needed most right now was a hot bath and a kiss from Lou. The winter weather had settled in and he was looking forward to thawing out. He rode straight to the house when he arrived in town but didn't find Lou in the house. He went ahead and drew a bath, warming the water over the fire. He went to see if there were any leftover biscuits from breakfast while he waited. As he stepped into the kitchen, he heard the click of a gun and spun around so fast, drawing on his surprise guest. "JIMMY!"
They both lowered their guns and got their breathing under control. "Damn it Lou, I could've shot you! Why are sneaking up on me like that?"
"Sneaking up on you? I just walked into what I thought was an empty house and heard a noise. Why'd you draw on me?"
"You weren't here when I got home and then I heard a gun cock!"
"JIMMY!"
"WHAT!"
"I MISSED YOU!"
"I MISSED YOU TOO!"
"Will you just kiss me already you damn fool!" she said starting to laugh and he came over and kissed her soundly.
Afterwards, he went to take his bath and Lou noticed his leg bandaged. "What happened?"
"Got shot but it didn't hit the bone so I'll be alright in a few days." He told her trying to reassure her.
"Everything been okay around here?" He asked her and she told him that things had been busy but alright other than worrying about him. He told her everything was good and kissed her again. He took his bath and she went to make him some breakfast. It was good to have him home.
