Station Officer Steele had just heard from Penny that she was on her way from Cardiff with Sam, Matt, Chris, and Kelly. He replied to her text and he then noticed a car pull up. He can see a suitcase being pulled out and a hat that says Battalion Chief 25. He can now see that it was Chief Wallace Boden of Firehouse 51 in Chicago. So, he walked out to where Phoenix was parked and he saw the chief staring at the open view of Pontypandy. "Wallace, is that you?" he called.
Wallace looked behind him to see the Station Officer happy to see him after the day they met working in London. He had been gone to Chicago after their days in the big city. "How have you been, Norris?" he asked.
"Oh, well, I started my times as a firefighter at the Newtown Academy, and then I came to be a full-time Firefighter in Pontypandy, and now I am a Station Officer of this Station."
"It's been so long since we saw each other in London."
"Yes, I remember the days with us on the rails with Bessie."
"Is she still around?"
"Bessie? Oh, yes. I found her in the station shed at the railway station which had just been opened years ago."
"I like to see her again."
"I like your thinking."
Station Officer Steele and Wallace made a walk down to the railway station While Elvis was cooking dinner and Ellie was working on cleaning the Station. Arnold was washing Hydrus after he got called to a water rescue at the mountain lake. They were all waiting for Penny to come back in Venus with Sam.
Out on the road,
Sam and Penny were driving home when they saw a wheelchair outside on the road. Sam signaled her to stop and they both hopped out to see what happened until they found Hannah. She had been seriously hurt after something had happened. "Hannah, are you alright?" Sam asked.
"No, Fireman Sam. I think I slipped on something, and then landed here."
"Do you know where it hurts?"
"I might've hurt my ankle, but I don't know."
"Hm, I think you just twisted it, but I'm sure you'll be fine."
Just as Penny was pulling out some tape, Tom came by in his 4x4. He could see that Sam and Penny need help. So, he pulled over and came over to them only to see Sam had returned from China. "G'day, Penny. Welcome back, Sam." Said Tom.
"Hello, Tom."
"Need a hand, Sam."
"Sure, Tom. Can you take Hannah with you back to Pontypandy? She just twisted her ankle, but I don't want anything else happening when she moves the chair back. There isn't enough room in Venus for all of us."
"No problem, Mate. I'll tell Lizzie and Joe when I get there."
"Thanks, Tom. We'll be at the Fire Station if you need us."
"Ok, Sam. Have a good one, Mate."
Sam and Penny continued along the coast road from Cardiff airport after passing through Newtown and Sam could see the forest. He noticed that the road was near the town and the floods' house was on the left. He later knew that they were back in Pontypandy.
Out at the railway Station,
Station Officer Steele and Chief Boden were getting a good look at Bessie who had been brought back to working with the Fire Service from Steele's first years as a firefighter. They later walked over to the front of Bessie, he told him about his days while Boden was in Chicago. "You see, the old coal mine had been set into ablaze and my father was the heroic firefighter that day. He would've been proud of the day my show was in ruins at the Mountain activity center." He said
"Really? I heard that the hero was none other than the great Daniel Steele, right?"
"Yes, That is true. He was my father, and a heroic firefighter that day. He was the one who wanted me to become a firefighter."
They were having a good time talking about Station Officer's time as a firefighter before Chief Boden could smell something. Station Officer Steele smelled it too. "Can you smell it, Norris?" Boden asked.
"GREAT TANGLED HOSES! The Mountain Activity Center is on Fire. I'll call for backup."
Station Officer Steele called for backup over the radio and Chief Boden called for his crew to arrive on the scene. They were worried it could spread at any moment, and that Moose was missing.
Back at the Fire Station,
Venus had arrived with Sam and Penny with the Rental car carrying Matt, Kelly, and Chris behind them. Ellie was downstairs cleaning until she saw someone climb out of Venus. She could not believe her eyes, she noticed Sam had come back. She had missed him since the day he went missing in China and made her way to him and held him in a tight hug until Sam could see tears rolling down her face. "Sam, I'm so happy to see you. I thought you were never coming back." Ellie said sadly.
"Ellie, it's ok. I'm here, and I will always be here in Pontypandy. What would Pontypandy do without me?"
Sam could see that Ellie had missed him so much and that she was worried about him. So, he hugged her back and they both walked up to the kitchen where Elvis and Arnold were waiting with the rest of the crew from Firehouse 51 in Chicago. Sam didn't know that Truck 81 was parked outside with Squad 3, Engine 51, and Ambulance 61. Matt was surprised that his team had arrived. Elvis looked around and found Sam at the door with Ellie who was filled with tears of joy to see him come back. "Hi, Sam. How was the conference?" Elvis asked.
"I can hardly say it went really well. I managed to meet these 3 in the conference, and they were also the ones that were looking for me."
"Really, Sam?" Arnold asked.
"Yeah, Arnold. It was easy for me because I had coverage for my phone in the country."
Just as they were getting to welcome back Sam, the Map Screen 700 went off and Sam rushed down to turn it on. The Map Screen showed the map with the Mountain activity center and that there was a fire there. the map screen read out loud to him "The Mountain Activity Center is on fire, and there are people trapped in the mountains."
Sam activated the alarm and reached for the Microphone to read back the Map Screen report "The Mountain Activity Center is on fire, and there are people trapped in the mountains."
The fire station was called to the Mountain activity center. What they didn't know is that both of their senior officers were waiting for them. The crew from Chicago Fire made their way to their vehicles and Sam climbed on Mercury, Elvis and Ellie hopped aboard Jupiter, and Penny and Arnold made their way to Venus. Everyone made their way to the railway Station except for Sam who took the shortcut with Mercury. Station Officer Steele and Chief Boden were on Bessie up at the Mountains and they needed more water. "Oh no, we're low on water. Bessie's tanks are not that big. What are we going to do?" Steele asked.
Boden looked around and then he heard the sound of Jupiter coming from the other side behind the Mountain Activity Center with Venus up behind Bessie with truck 81, and Squad 3. The crew of Engine 51 were in the area with Jupiter and Ambulance 61 was behind Jupiter. Sam had been the first on the scene and grabbed the gear. "Sam?! What are you doing here?" Steele asked.
"No time to explain, sir. We came as fast as we could, You got more help and Tom is on his way with Wallaby 2."
"Roger that, Sam."
Elvis had found the Hikers up in the mountains with the Pontypandy Pioneers and Sarah and James raced to Sam. They were happy to see him. "UNCLE SAM!" They shouted.
"Don't panic. I'm here, you two."
Sam held them close and Sarah couldn't let go because she missed him so much. Sam was needed, but the twins had missed them and Sarah was tearing up because of how long he was gone. Penny came by with Ellie, they could see that Sam had missed the twins. "Sam, I'll take the twins with Ellie and we'll take them to Jupiter." Penny said.
"Good idea, Penny."
Penny and Ellie managed to bring the twins over to Jupiter and Sam went back to fighting the fire. A minute later, Tom showed up with a bucket of water in Wallaby 2 and he was ready to finish the job. Sam was surprised that he arrived so fast. The fire was soon out and the air began to cool it down as it grew dark. Everyone stored the equipment and Sam made his way to Station Officer Steele. "Sam, Welcome home to Pontypandy. I hope you enjoyed your trip." Said Norris.
"Yes, sir. I had to say it was quite an eventful trip. I had 2 things to do on my way back. I had to help a KLM gate agent at the airport in Amsterdam, and Hannah had twisted her ankle. Lizzie and Joe texted me that she had twisted it but nothing was broken."
"Hey, that's 2 emergency calls you did worldwide today, Sam."
"Indeed, sir."
Everyone had come up to them and Sam had told them the time he had to help in Amsterdam. They were surprised with the news from Sam and they met his new friends from Chicago, Illinois while they were in China at the conference. "Sam, I'd never probably introduced myself." Boden said.
"Me neither."
"Wallace Boden, Battalion Chief of Firehouse 51, Chicago Fire Department."
"A pleasure to meet you, Chief Boden."
Just as they were meeting each other, Chief Fire Officer Boyce came by with Moose. Tom had landed and joined them. He was surprised to see Sam back in action, even after a long flight. "Well done, firefighters." He said.
"Thank you, sir. we're just doing our jobs." Sam said.
"I know, Sam. I understand that you have missed Pontypandy. Welcome home, Fireman Sam!"
"Erm, thank you, sir. This was a team effort fighting this fire. No matter where you come from, we always work together."
"Smart thinking, Sam."
"Really, sir?"
"Yes, I have just got off the phone with KLM, they told me that you came to the rescue in Amsterdam airport earlier today before leaving for Cardiff."
"Oh, I forgot to tell you, sir."
"I know, Sam. but they told me that they are commending you for your heroic action today, and I would agree that you did just that."
"I don't know what to say, sir."
"You don't need to say anything. I'll tell you later when you come by to Newtown, or maybe when Station Officer Steele isn't around and I'm in charge of the station."
"Watch it, Horatio!" Steele called as he became a little bit frustrated when he heard those comments.
Everyone laughed at the two and Station Officer Steele thought that was funny when they argue about everything starting with unusual rescues. Sam hopes that he will never end up missing again anywhere in the world.
