Hullo, and welcome. I'm Dragon, from The Dragon's Hoard, and this is my first ever fanfiction. Before we begin I just want to clear some things up:

1, This is a story mostly focused on Kayn and Rhaast, but will be in three parts. Part one is Kayn and Rhaast, while part two will be about Kayn after he becomes the Shadow Assassin, and part three answers the question of 'What would have happened if Rhaast won?'.

2, Shadow magic, while having canon information in universe, isn't explained in depth, and I will be using a tiny bit of head canon to make it better for the story. See the end of the first chapter to go into detail.

3, "Normal" = Out loud.

"Italics" = Thoughts.

"Bold" = Rhaast.

"Underlined" = Noxian.

4, I plan on writing more fanfiction, and it will be in the same storyline that I'm setting up in this one. In this storyline, everything will be as close to canon as possible, and as indistinguishable from the actual lore as I can make it.

5, The Shadow Assassin storyline is the canon storyline in my fanfiction universe. The Rhaast storyline is just a possible eventuality that did not happen.

6, This takes place not very long after the ending of the Zed comics.

Alright that's everything, please enjoy, and check out my YouTube channel: channel/UCKzKzF8fLsI75JgV4WAJ75Q?view_as=subscriber.

-Part One: The Choice-

Chapter 1

"...Idiot." Kayn thought.

"Well, you're not wrong." Rhaast quickly agreed. "He is rather… dull. I bet he would be so FUN to rend apart!"

Kayn chose not to comment on Rhaast's words, as the boy was a brother in the order, annoying as he may be. The boy in question was rather short, but thin and agile, almost to the point where Kayn had a hard time keeping him still enough to talk. Not that that was a problem, as normally Kayn avoided casual conversation, and this boy, whose name Kayn already forgot, bugged him with his wonder.

"Look, Kayn! I can make these shadows dance better than anyone else in my study group!" The boy exclaimed.

Kayn thought the talent worthless, as the teen only had twin lines of shadow tattoos running down his face. Not enough magic to channel real power. "Yes that's… very good… I suppose. Just, go back and practice." Kayn said as he tried to escape the unwanted chat.

"But wait! I wanna play! Can't you play hide and seek with us again? You're always the best seeker with your shadow step, but it's still fun!" The boy pleaded.

Suddenly, a young man about Kayn's age ran up to him. It was Carudyn, or Cara for short. A tall blond who was near bone thin, but with a wiry strength to him, likely due to his Simian Vastayan blood. Carudyn followed Master Zed's teachings and trained with the rest of the order, but being a Vastaya, he chose not to take the shadow magic that Zed normally gave to his students. Cara was always trying to talk to Kayn. Unlike most of the students in Master Zed's order, Cara was never wary of Kayn, or dissuaded when his attempts at conversing fell flat.

"Kayn, Master Zed has a new mission for you!" He said excitedly.

"Well, what is it Cara?" Kayn asked, thankful to the young monkey for the escape from the teen's game.

"I'm not sure, the Master said he wished it on your ears only! You better hurry, before he gives it to me, like with that flying, scaly thing I had to take down!" Carudyn remembered, happily.

"Alright, I'm moving, I'm moving. Don't you have a tree to climb, monkey man?" Kayn teased.

"Yeah, right next to the field of wheat you need to kill, scythe speaker!" Cara quipped back, as Kayn chuckled and walked away.

"Why do you not just shave him, if his fur bothers you?" asked Rhaast.

"I can never tell if you're being serious or not when you say that, Rhaast." Other students looked uneasily at Kayn as he passed, made uncomfortable by his habit of talking to a seemingly inanimate weapon, out loud and with full volume. However none challenged him about it anymore, knowing that it would only upset him, and his scythe would 'call for their heads', whatever that meant.

"Anyways, what do you think the mission is, Kayn? It must be fun if it is only to be trusted to us. I hope it's bloody." fantasized Rhaast.

"I don't know Rhaast, but it's entrusted to ME. YOU are just a farm implement with delusions of grandeur."

"Yes, well. Whatever helps you sleep at night." Rhaast muttered.

Finally reaching the crisscross of halls that marks the halfway point between Zed's chambers and the courtyard Kayn started in, Kayn feels the large shadowy Tattoos on his legs flow with his power as he rushes forward, into the walls.

"Oh, I do like this." mumbles Rhaast as Kayn walks around the outskirts of rooms, unseen in the walls of the monastery, and nearing Zed's chamber.

As he entered via the wall right next to the open door, Zed turned to face him, and nodded his hello. "Shieda. Thank you for coming." The master said, being the only one whom Kayn respected enough to allow using his first name.

"Of course, Master! What do you need of me?" Kayn said, as he returned Zed's nod in greeting.

"I have a mission of vital importance. I would join you, however I do not trust to not be a trap by those who know of me. You should be able to do this alone, and unknown."

"Yes, Master. What is my mission?" acknowledged Kayn, with a bow.

"In Zhyunia there will be a man, named Kuthueln. He must die." Zed dictated, coldly.

"Yes, master. Why is his blood to be spilled?" Kayn inquired of his master.

"That is not for you to know or care about right now Kayn. When you have succeeded and he is dead, I may explain. For now just know he does not serve Ionia as well when alive, as he could while dead." Zed replied cryptically.

"It is a few days' journey from here. Go prepare and leave in the morning tomorrow. Oh, and you should know that one of Shen's favorite students has been spotted near the area, just a town away from it. This is why I fear a trap. Good luck, Shieda. Although, I know you will not need it." Zed smiled kindly at his favorite pupil.

"Thank you Master, but if i may, which of the Kinkou was spotted?" Kayn asked, failing to sound casual.

"Akali." Zed replied whilst smiling at his students' hopefulness.

"Is that the pretty ninja girl you have a crush on?" Rhaast asked.

"No, I don-" Kayn sighed. "Yeah. Sure." He said.

"So you no longer deny it?" Rhaast probed further.

"Denying it didn't work on you. Now, I shall ignore it." Kayn snapped.

Zed frowned upon hearing his students' half of the conversation. He did not approve of his favorite student using a blade that evil, but if anyone could handle it, obviously it was Kayn. He had already done so for over a year now. "Leave here, Shieda. You have a few hours until dark, and I wish you to get a good night's sleep before you depart.

"Yes, Master Zed." Kayn said automatically before walking out, straight into a wall, and out the other side.

4 days later.

Kayn had arrived in town and decided to get a room in the nearest inn, and try to see if he could overhear anybody gossiping. If this 'Kuthueln' was so important, then surely someone would say something eventually. While not the quickest strategy, it had yet to fail him.

"One hundred coins for a room!? That's stupid!" Kayn said in outrage.

"Just take the room key off of the rich fellow who walked in. He is at the bar now." Rhaast tempted.

"Good plan, Rhaast. How strange to hear one from you." Kayn taunted, as he went in for a drink. Swiping the key from the rich fool was so easy that Kayn took some coins as well, and bought himself a drink to enjoy at the table he had picked. After a few minutes of relaxing, he started to focus on the conversations around him, to see if he could gather anything useful from his eavesdropping. Suddenly a familiar woman sat down in front of him.

"Akali? Why are you here?" Kayn asked, instantly on alert for an attack or ambush.

"Relax, Kayn. I'm here on business NOT regarding your order. I'm here to kill this man." she said, sliding an intricate drawing of the man Kayn was looking for over the table to him.

"Heh, you too? I wonder what this guy did, to get TWO assassins, of separate orders, to hunt him down. Master Zed would not tell me." Kayn chuckled.

"Your master would not tell you? I better not ruin the surprise then, pretty boy. Do you even OWN a shirt?" Akali teased him, as Kayn's upper half was only covered by the bandages he used to conceal his corrupted arm from the common people around them.

"Yes I own a shirt, but you said it yourself. The shirtless look works for me, so why stop?" Kayn replied. "So… you look tired from your journey. I know that your temple is further from here then mine." Kayn probed.

"Yes, what is your point Kayn?" Akali asked suspiciously.

"Nothing… just, if you like, I could take care of this for us both. You can relax for a few days, then head back and take credit among your order for the kill, whilst I do the job, and take the credit in mine." Kayn proposed, too innocently. Akali however, couldn't find a flaw or problem with the plan, and she was very tired.

"Eh, what the hell. Sure. Thanks Kayn. But won't the scythe slashes make it obvious you killed him, and not I?" Akali wondered aloud.

"Well, I could always use a kunai or a kama, like you, or even kill him without a blade. I have mastered every weapon of war, I just think scythes fit me best!" Kayn boasted.

"Is that the newest excuse you've made as to why you were drawn to me?" Rhaast interrupted.

"Well," Kayn said, turning to his blade, "It's one of the reasons, for sure."

Akali rolled her eyes as she remembered who she was talking to. Hot, but crazy. "Yeah alright, whatever. Thanks Kayn. As far as I can gather, he is resting at the inn by that old destroyed well, on the west side of town. Goodnight." Akali said, and slipped away and out the door.

Finishing the argument with Rhaast, Kayn heard Akali and waved her goodnight as she left, before going back to his drink. "Tonight I've found my mark. And tomorrow, when the town awakens, my mark will be gone. Only four people will know what happened. Akali, Master Shen, Master Zed, and myself."

"Five. I'll know too, Kayn." Rhaast reminded his host.

"No, four. You don't count, because you're a glorified lawnmower." Kayn muttered under his breath, and finished off his drink before heading upstairs to bed.

-End Chapter-

Alright, lets get some details on Shadow Magic, shall we? Here is a link to the lore page about it: wiki/Shadow_Order. Just scroll down to the 'Culture' part.

Now for my additions: Tattooing it makes it permanent, not just longer. And due to the fact that I could not find any tattoos on base form Kayn's in-game model, my head canon is that they are on his legs, under his pants. This got me thinking, what if THAT is why his shadow ability is to walk in walls? His legs have the tattoos, so he walks with shadows. My theory is that the size of the tattoo and the skill/talent of the person using it aren't the only variables. Where the tattoo is located matters as well. Zed has them all over his torso, so he makes semi-permanent shadow clones. Kayn has them on his legs, so he can walk in walls. However if the tattoo is large enough, regardless of location, it grants the ability of shadowing into someone's body, like both Zed and Kayn do in-game. And any shadow tattoo, no matter how small, gives you the ability to have some control over shadows, regardless of location as well. Almost like a Minor Illusion spell from D&D 5E, but with shadows.

However when Kayn goes Shadow Assassin, he then gets new tattoos over his eyes and arms. My theory is when he takes Rhaast's power, this is why he wanted it. He uses it to make more shadow magic and tattoos it on his arms and face with the newfound raw power, that he is turning into shadow magic. So, he has the tats on his legs, allowing him passage in walls, and his torso tattoos give him the ability to make a shadow clone just like Zed, although much less permanent, such as when he casts his W in-game. His face tattoos are just extra storage of more raw power.

REMEMBER, everything not written on Universe in the LoL page, or on the lore pages, is all my head canon, based on what I read from them.

This has been the author's note. Thank you.

-Preview Of Shadow Assassin-

"Hey, Kayn. Is that a new scythe?" Akali questioned.

"No, it's the same scythe. I've just stopped… talking to it." Kayn replied, almost sadly.

"Oh, good. Maybe you aren't as crazy as I thought you were." Akali teased with a playful wink.

Kayn smiled wryly. "Heh, maybe not."

Akali frowned at Kayn's saddening expression. "Hey… I know you cared about that scythe, even if I don't get why. You alright?" Akali asked, shocking herself by actually caring.

"Yes. I'm fine, but thank you." Kayn smiled. Then, remembering Rhaast's words, he continued. "So. Are you, er… free tonight?"

"Well, yes. I am. Why do you ask?" Akali answered, smiling in her mind, already knowing the answer.

"Well, I'm open tonight as well… would you like to, um… would you like to spar?" Kayn said, surprising Akali, who had thought for sure he would ask her to dinner.

"Sure! 8:30?" She chuckled.

"Yes, that works!" Kayn said, too quickly.

"Kayn?" She asked, as he looked at the shops and carts around them.

"Hmm, yes Akali?" He said as he glanced over at her.

"Would this be some kind of... anti-social version of a date?" Akali asked, smiling knowingly.

"Er… yeah." Kayn said sheepishly grinning.

Akali giggled cutely and said "Perfect. I'm glad we're on the same page. 8:30. Don't leave a girl waiting, 'Shieda'." Akali teased. "Bye, for now."

"Goodbye Akali. See you soon!" responded Kayn, not caring that she used, or even somehow knew, his first name.
