I'm taking a break from my ongoing story "Kagome's Diary" to post a short one-shot about Inuyasha, Kagome, and Moroha. After all the hectic times they've had and being away from each other for three years, I like to imagine Inuyasha and Kagome having happy times with their little girl. Plus, Yashahime is just...not great (to put it nicely). I wish we had gotten moments like this is the show but that's what fanfiction is for.
I hope you like this one. Leave a review as always. I love to hear from you all.
Quiet Night At Home
Inuyasha really looked forward to quiet evenings at home with his family. Life had always been so hectic in the past whether it was fighting for survival when he was on his own, searching for Naraku and the sacred jewel shards, or trying to keep hope alive when Kagome was gone for those long three years. Now quiet nights at home with her and their daughter were what he lived for.
They'd had dinner not long ago. On a late summer evening, it was too warm to have the firepit blazing but the temperature in the house was perfectly comfortable at this time of day. Kagome was cleaning up the kitchen and Moroha was sitting on the floor drawing while their cat, Nico, lay next to her watching.
Inuyasha grabbed the basket full of the latest batch of laundry he and Kagome had done that afternoon and went into their room and next into Moroha's to put the garments away. As he padded across her room toward her dresser, he stepped on something and almost tripped. Swearing under his breath, he found that a stack of blocks littered the floor. She was still learning to clean up after herself and would often leave her toys lying around. Inuyasha just sighed and ignored the pain in his toe. She was enjoying herself right now so he figured he'd make her clean up her toys later.
After putting her clothes away, he went back into the main room and found his family in the same state he had left them in. He sat down next to Moroha and observed her latest drawing. "What are you drawing, kiddo?"
"A birdie," she replied. "It's a rainbow birdie."
There were certainly a lot of colors although Inuyasha couldn't quite make out the bird in it. Still, he patted his child on the head for her creativity. "You're such a good little artist, Moroha. We'll put this on the wall with the others."
Then Kagome came over to join them. "Having fun over here?"
"Moroha is showing me her excellent drawing skills," Inuyasha replied. "She's much more talented than I'll ever be."
Moroha grinned when she heard that.
Kagome giggled. "I agree. She's like a little Picasso."
"What's a Picasso?" Inuyasha asked.
"A famous artist who will be born about...400 years from now," Kagome said with a laugh. She was always referencing people, phrases, and other things from her era that hadn't happened yet leaving Inuyasha and her friends confused.
Luckily, Inuyasha had gotten used to this by now. "Ah, I see. You all done cleaning?"
"Yeah, finally. How about we do something fun? Let's go for a walk."
"Works for me. Do you want to go for a walk, Moroha?"
"Yes!" Moroha said excitedly.
So the three of them left the house, along with Nico who decided to join them tonight. By now, the sun was starting to set casting an orange glow over everything. There was also a light breeze in the air. The yellow glow of fireflies blinked around them every so often.
Inuyasha and Kagome walked side by side with Moroha between them. Each of them held one of her hands picking her up and swinging her through the air every few steps. The two-year-old girl found this extremely funny and laughed with excitement each time. Meanwhile, Nico scampered about nearby trying to pounce on birds.
The family walked until they reached a meadow at the edge of the village. Once there, Inuyasha and Kagome sat in the grass while Moroha went off a few feet away to pick flowers.
A happy smile spread across Kagome's face as she watched her. Their little girl was so sweet and innocent and it was fascinating to watch her grow and learn every day. It was just so wonderful to be Moroha's mom, to the point where she wasn't sure how she lived without her before she was born. Everything felt so complete with her in their life.
As she watched their baby play, she thought about how grateful she was for the well opening up for her years ago and allowing her back into Inuyasha's life. Three years later, she would never have wanted things to be any different.
Inuyasha also observed the scene in front of him with happiness in his heart. When he put his hand on Kagome's, she looked over at him and blushed at the endearing look he was giving her. These two were everything to him. She was the reason his life had taken such a wonderful turn and she was why he was sitting here in the evening sun watching his baby run around and explore. As he observed her glowing in the light of the orange sunset, his only thought was how much he loved and adored her.
"I love you," he said.
Those three words never failed to make her feel like she was soaring with happiness. "I love you too," she replied as she leaned toward him.
Their lips connected and moved together as perfectly as they always did with the surety that they would always love each other. The kiss continued for a minute but with some reluctance, they managed to pull away before they became lost in each other. As much as they would have wanted to continue kissing and allow it to build into something more passionate, that would wait until later when Moroha was asleep for the night.
"Mommy, daddy, I got you flowers," Moroha said as she ran back over to them.
"These are beautiful, sweetie," Kagome said as Moroha handed daisies to each of them.
"You have to put it in your hair," she said.
Kagome and Inuyasha each complied and put the flowers in their hair. Afterward, Moroha bounced up and down with happiness. "You look pretty!"
Each of them laughed a bit. Moroha would become excited by the smallest of things.
Inuyasha placed a kiss on Kagome's cheek. "You're prettier."
Moroha sat in his lap and looked back and forth between them. "Mommy, daddy, why do you love each other?"
"Lots of reasons," Kagome replied as she put her hand in her husband's. "Your daddy is so kind and he takes good care of me."
Inuyasha squeezed her hand. "And your mommy is the most beautiful, smart, and selfless woman I know." He knew he could have gone into a long spiel of a million reasons why he loved Kagome (and there were literally a million) but he kept it simple for a child.
"And we love each other so much that that's why we had you," Kagome said, running her fingers through Moroha's hair making her giggle.
"I love you. You're the best mommy and daddy in the whole wide world," Moroha said.
"Aww, Moroha!" Kagome said before kissing her daughter's cheek. Their little girl was such a sweetheart.
Inuyasha hugged Moroha and kissed the top of her head. "And we love you so much."
They then decided to keep walking. After a few minutes, Moroha tugged on Inuyasha's sleeve. "Carry me, daddy."
"Come here, kiddo," Inuyasha said as he picked her up. Moroha rested her head on his shoulder and he and Kagome stopped walking when they got to the cliff that overlooked the valley down below.
As they looked at the scenic view, Inuyasha was reminded of another time he was out here. It was only about three years ago, but it seemed like much longer. Things were so different now; he was different. With these two in his life, it was hard to believe that he was once physically hurting with loneliness.
"I was out here a few days before you came back," he said as he was swept away in his memories. "As I looked up into the night sky, I just prayed that one day you would come back and I would be able to hold you in my arms again."
Kagome hugged him close knowing how hard those three years were for both of them. "I did the same thing. I often sat by my bedroom window and looked up at the stars thinking about you. I prayed a lot. I cried a lot. I would have given anything to be with you."
"You were gone for so long that I wasn't sure if you would ever come back. But I just kept hoping every day that you would. Hope was the only thing that kept me going back then."
"We're together now," she said before giving him a kiss. "Right where we're supposed to be."
"You're right," he said with a smile. "I have everything I need now." He glanced at Moroha who was laying on his shoulder with her finger in her mouth. "Getting sleepy, little one?"
"No," she replied.
Kagome laughed. "She's as stubborn as you are."
He laughed as well. "I think it's time to go home."
