When the 6 o'clock news aired that night in Springfield, Kent Brockman reported the news of Barney Gumble's demise.

"This is Kent Brockman reporting from Springfield Bridge that police have located and found a body in the river, which is confirmed to be the town drunk, Barney Gumble. Gumble was declared dead at the scene. Police say drunk driving may be a possible factor. Gumble was known for his snowplowing, using the nickname "Plow King." He was also the owner of the bowling alley, "Barney's Bowlarama" before selling it for three pints of alcohol. Gumble was last seen alive at Moe's Tavern, where he was a frequent customer." Gumble's body has been taken to the Springfield Coroner's Office for autopsy, which will be conducted this week."

After Brockman finished his report, he walked away from the camera and took a shot of whiskey.

"I'm sure glad nobody can see this," Brockman said not knowing that the camera was still on and focusing on him."

At Moe's Tavern, many of its regular customers stopped by to drop flowers and candles to pay respects to their fallen friend. Even Duffman showed up. They also put down pictures of Barney during some of his funniest and most drunken moments. Some even put down empty Duff beer cans, or any empty alcohol containers.

"I can't believe we're never going to see Barney again," Lenny said, still in disbelief.

"Yeah. We won't ever hear his signature burp again either," Carl chimed in.

Just then, they all heard a burp that sounded just like Barney's. They saw it was Homer sipping on a can of Duff.

"Ehh, that burp doesn't feel it came from the right guy," Lenny said.

"Are you really having a beer at a time like this Homer?" Carl asked with a hint of annoyance in his voice.

"I need to drown my sorrows," Homer responded with despair in his tone. "Besides, I'll be doing that a lot this week over here."

"I'm sorry guys, but I'm going to close the bar for a while," said Moe. "I know this is how I make money, but the whole town knows that Barney was last seen here before it happened. I don't want people thinking I meant to let him die under my watch."

"What?!" Homer asked in surprise. "But who's going to give me my beer? Who's going to record me dancing with my shirt off or throwing up on Lenny?"

"You can always go to another bar, but I suggest you buy your own beer at the store. I don't want to see you kill yourself while driving drunk," Moe responded.

"But, I never get hurt in a car when I'm drunk. I just let someone drive me home when I've had too much."

Homer then looked at his phone and looked at a picture of Maggie at the wheel of his car while he was in the passenger side, clearly drunk.

"Sorry Homer, but Barney wasn't just a customer I could've noticed who was drunk, he was also my friend who needed me. I need a break, and the last thing I want to do right now is serving booze to any drunk guy.

Homer groaned in disappointment. Sure, Marge could buy him beer at the store, but it wouldn't be as fun, since he wouldn't have his friends to talk to.
