Interlude: Kokabiel
"You have failed me."
Kokabiel was not a nice man. He was terrifying when he was angry but when he was annoyed it meant that whoever who had irked him was going to have very bad day ahead of them.
Even so Raynare and company groveled before the Angel of the Stars and knew that it was better they face his wrath now rather than be subjected to it later for hiding their disaster from him. He loomed over them with ten wings black as night that did not shine in the full moon's light behind him. In fact it seemed to devour it. Every word he said had weight and every syllable carried centuries of cruelty both sadist and callous to their ears.
"Speak. Bed-Warmer. Or I will make you."
The idea that any of them were 'siblings' in Heaven was a lie. They were to an-angel made as cogs in the machine and neither Raynare, Kalawarner, nor Mittelt could be said to be even in the same category as Kokabiel in the hierarchy.
"L-lord Kokabiel!" Raynare pleaded, head outright hitting the dirt in prostration, "W-we were attacked!"
"With one less of our kindred and none of 'the help' or Azazel's toy with you. All I see is cowardice."
"I-it was an enemy we have never fought before!" Raynare tried again.
"A red giant!" Kalawarner interjected, "it kept changing it's form-"
"A machine!" Mittelt added as well, "It had massive guns that just ripped Dohanseek apart!"
They expected to be maimed or outright killed on the spot if he was merciful. The trio of Fallen braced and waited but instead the blow never came. One then two and finally all three peeked up from the dirt and saw Kokabiel with a withering glare on his face.
"...Leave."
"L-lord Kokabiel?"
"LEAVE!"
They left. All three flew away in a swirling mess of raven-black feathers and left the ancient astronomer to gaze up at the stars. He wondered where they could have come from, which light in the sky did the outsiders call home and how many of them had the strength to challenge both the hosts of heaven and the hordes of hell.
All the pieces of Excalibur would soon be in his grasp. The Church would try and stop him ... and now so would it's makers.
A/N: This was meant to be part of Chapter 2 but it just didn't fit in with the flow of the chapter.
And just a notice that I'm not sticking to any one Continuity. It's a blend of multiple different elements.
