Chapter 2

Voldemort stumbled back his eyes wide. The girl was smiling at him. What was wrong with her? Didn't she know he was going to kill her?

"What's the matter Tom?" Lily asked. "Am I not what you expected?"

"You are calmer than I thought. Don't you know that I am going to kill you?"

"Don't you know that you are going to try?" Lily's eyes turned from emerald green to a glowing orange. Her voice turned to a serpentine hiss. "Unfortunately for you, my son is hungry."

Voldemort lifted a hand, directing his palm at Lily. "I don't know what you are, but I will not stand here and be spoken to as if I'm food."

"Oh honey," Lily said. "That is all you are good for. You are food that will be given to my son to help him grow. I do wonder, where will you go when you are dead?"

"I am immortal," Voldemort hissed, stepping closer to the bed. "I will never die."

"Never is a long time little man," Lily said icily. "I used to think I would never die. I used to think that I was a goddess to be worshipped. Guess what, I was wrong. While I wasn't killed, I was banished out of this world. It took a foolish little man messing with forces he didn't understand to summon me back."

"What are you babbling about?"

Lily tilted her head, gazing at him thoughtfully. "You were so much cuter when you were younger," she sighed gesturing at his beak like nose, glowing red eyes, and thin lipless mouth. "You've lost your hair and your face looks more like a skull than a human face. Are you truly content living eternity as a scarecrow?"

Voldemort scowled. "I don't need tips on my looks from a monster."

"Monster?" Lily said clapping a hand to her chest. "You are won to talk. I will admit to the theft of infants, blackmail, and the murder of criminals the law can't touch, but I am not a monster."

"You created the monsters of the world. "Vampires, werewolves, wendigo, wraiths, and every other monster of the world calls you Mother. How can you say that you are not a monster?"

"I tried to create my own children. Until this one," she cast a loving look at Harry. "I've never had a son of my own. I wanted a child so bad, but now, I have the son I've always wanted. He will be the alpha of monsters. I sculpted Harry while he was in my womb. Now that he is here, everything will be different."

"Nice little speech," Voldemort said. "Shame your little brat won't live long enough to grow up."

Lily arched an eyebrow. "You think not. She lifted Harry higher, so that Voldemort could see the child's red hair and emerald eyes. As he watched, the child's eyes turned from green to glowing orange."

"Are you hungry?" Lily cooed.

The baby opened his mouth, showing a full set of white teeth.

Voldemort swallowed thickly. "What is he?"

"Old one," Lily said.

"But his Father was human," Voldemort said confused.

'Which means he has none of the weaknesses that my other children do."

"Enough talk. It's time to end this. What will you do Tom Riddle? Will you walk away and live, or will you attack me and die?"

Voldemort thrust his hand forward. "Avada Kedavra," he chanted.

"A green bolt of lightning flew from his palm and headed straight for the Baby."

The baby opened his mouth, showing off his teeth once again. The green light went straight down the infant's throat.

Voldemort stumbled as pain lanced through his chest. He stared down at his hands, watching as the color drained from his skin.

Raising his eyes, he stared as the baby's thin sprigs of red hair grew out to cover his head. A flush of color filled his skin and his green eyes turned orange once again.

"What's happening," Voldemort gasped.

"I did warn you," Lily said. "Good-bye Tom Riddle."

A blinding flash of golden light filled the room. Voldemort screamed as his body dissolved around him. Within seconds, there was nothing left accept a pile of black robes lying on the floor.

Lily looked down at the baby sleeping in her arms. "Ah, you are full now?" she asked.

The baby opened one orange eye, gazed at her, and then closed it once again.

Dumbledore and James hurried into the room. "Lily," James said. "What happened?"

Lily gestured at the pile of robes. "Voldemort came to visit. He's gone now."

Dumbledore sat down in a chair facing her. "I know who you are."

"Do you?" Lily said. "It's nice to see that your old age isn't affecting your mind."

"I know who you are," Dumbledore said more firmly. "Did I not summon you back in 1898? I always wondered when you would return Mother of monsters."

Lily tilted her head, like a bird looking at a particularly juicy worm. "Really?" she said, drawing out the word. "What proof do you have?"

"You are more proficient with magic than anyone I've ever seen. You've never needed a wand and you have an understanding of runes far beyond your years."

"So, I'm a prodigy," Lily said. "Are you jealous? Tell me, why would that be? You just can't accept that your time has passed, can your old man."

Dumbledore pulled out a mirror and held it up. "This mirror is enchanted to show the truth. Look," he said enlarging the mirror and turning it to face her.

Lily looked into the mirror and saw her orange eyes reflected back at her.

"Crap," Lily said causing her eyes to glow."

"How long have you possessed Lily?"

Lily tilted her head. "Possessed?" "No Dumbledore, this is one hundred percent me. I am Lily, but I'm also Lilith. I had to be born back into this world twenty years ago."

"So, you have been lying to me?" James said, speaking for the first time.

"I never lied to you," Lily said. "We have been married for two years. Before my seventh year, I hated you. You were an arrogant jerk."

"But you didn't tell me you weren't human," James spat.

"Your friend Remus is a werewolf," Lily said calmly. "He's not entirely human. Will you hold that against him?"

"Remus never hid who… what he really was. What are you anyway, some kind of vampire?"

Lily snorted. "Hardly," "What I am there are no words for. The Greeks called us titans. Lovecraft called my people old ones. Suffice it to say that both names are accurate if not entirely so."

"What do you want?" Dumbledore said, clutching his wand tightly. "What is your endgame?"

Lily looked down at Harry cradled in her arms. "I already have what I want. My little boy. My endgame, well, I want to protect my children. I will not allow them to be killed indiscriminately any longer."

"So, you would allow vampires to roam free, to drink whomever they desire?" James snapped.

Lily shook her head. "Those that must be killed, those that kill without remorse, I have no problem with them being slain. They are murderers and shall be treated as such. My other children…" She stared off into space for several moments not really seeing anything.

"I cannot stand watching my children die just because they are what they are. I will not allow them to be murdered."

"So, you created Harry," Dumbledore said.

"Harry is my son, my only born son. He is the alpha of all monsters. He will lead them to salvation."

"Alpha of all monsters?" James took a step towards Lily. "I won't allow you to do this. Harry is my son to."

"Yes, he is." Lily said. "What is your choice? I shall not teach Harry to be a monster. He will learn compassion and mercy, but he will also learn to defend those who cannot defend themselves. We can stay married or we can divorce and I will take my son from this place."

James drew his wand. "I won't let you do this," he growled. "You will not corrupt my son."

Lily's eyes glowed orange. James and Dumbledore flew across the room, slamming into the wall. They struggled but were unable to move so much as a finger. Time in the room froze. All the normal sounds of the hospital stopped as if someone had flipped a switch.

Lily gazed at the two men pinned to the wall by her power. She could just leave, go back to the mundane world and never return to the magical community, but James had been a good husband. Perhaps, there was another way. With a snap of her fingers, time began again. She watched the man struggle against the invisible force holding them.

Lily stood. "I'd hoped to maintain my identity as Lily Evans a bit longer, but I see that shall not happen." She looked at James. "Is this your final decision?"

James glared at her. He and Dumbledore suddenly dropped to the floor with a thud. James's wand flew from his hand. Lily caught it neatly. She looked down at the thin stick of wood. There was a flash of flame. Lily brushed the ashes from her hand and looked at Dumbledore speculatively. "I see that your wand is unique." It has been centuries since I've seen such a powerful artifact. Tell me Albus, do you want to see it destroyed?"

Dumbledore clutched his wand tightly as if he could prevent it from being taken from him. "You can't," he said almost desperately. "This wand was forged by death himself."

"Truly?" Lily said. Dumbledore cried out as the wand flew from his hand. Like with James, Lily caught the wand and examined it minutely.

"Interesting," she whispered. "Elder wood and thestral hair, fifteen inches." It is definitely powerful." She casually tossed the wand back to Dumbledore.

Dumbledore caught the wand. As his fingers touched the wood, he felt the warmth flow through his body. The wand seemed to shudder in his grip as if it were afraid. "I'm still it's master," he said softly.

"Of course, you are," Lily said with a snort. "I have no need of a wand."

James let out a yell and lunged at Lily. Lily caught him with one hand and hoisted him into the air. James looked down at the small woman holding him in the air like it was nothing. Lily's green eyes had turned orange again. "I assume that we shall not get along then. Very well, you leave me no choice."

"What are you going to do?" James choked. Lily dropped him and turned back to the bed where she'd laid Harry. She gently gathered him into her arms again before facing James.

"I am sorry we were unable to stay married. For what was, I leave you with your life."

James struggled to his feet, clenching his fists in impotent rage. "You're taking my son away from me."

"I'm doing what is best. "Our son isn't human, not really. He will always be different. Can you honestly tell me that you would be able to look passed his inhuman nature? What about when he did something that wizards are unable to do? Could you accept it as just a gift he got from me or would you demand he hide the gifts he has received?"

James looked down at the ground. "I don't know," he whispered.

"I don't know either," Lily said gently. She glared at Dumbledore. "I'd hoped to have years with you. I'd hoped to be able to tell you in my own time." She looked down at their son, a solitary tear falling from her eye. "The old man just couldn't allow that could he?"

James shuffled his feet. "I will not disown our son. He will be my heir, but at least let me see him. I don't want to be kicked out of his life."

Lily nodded, tears falling down her cheeks. "I promise. I would never deny you seeing our son."

James swallowed thickly. Lily tightened her grip on Harry. She glanced at Dumbledore. "He isn't dead you know. What Harry did to him. It would've killed a mortal, but not him."

Dumbledore's blue eyes stared at the redhead, looking resigned. "He is still alive." I should've known that. He always feared death."

Lily nodded. "I know," she said. "If he becomes a threat, I will aid you in defeating him. I will not allow a man that attempts to kill my son to live."

Dumbledore shook his head, his blue eyes cold. "James may be willing to let you live, but I will correct my mistake. I will not attack you now because I know I have nothing that can harm you, but I will find a way to destroy you."

Lily shrugged. "As you wish. I will not fight you unless I am attacked first. Don't attack me and I won't attack you."

Dumbledore's hand shook. "As you wish for now."

Lily turned back to James. "I will contact you about arranging visitation with our son."

"Thank you," James whispered. "Where will you stay? You are welcome to stay at home until you can get things arranged."

Lily shook her head. "I don't want to make this any harder than it has to be."

"Will you at least stay in England."

"Of course," Lily said. "This is my home. Besides, it will make it easy for us to arrange visits with Harry."

James reached out hesitantly and took Harry from Lily. "We could try you know," he said softly. "We don't have to give up. I don't want to lose you."

Lily hesitated. "I don't know."

'Would it not be best for Harry if his parents were together?"

Lily nodded. "It would be a stable home."

"So, we can try?"

"For Harry?" Lily said.

"For Harry," James agreed.

Lily smiled tremulously. She handed James his wand back. "You might want this."

"How?" James gaped at her.

Lily winked. "Magic."

Lilith sighed as she sat down on the bed. She watched Harry look around him curiously. It hadn't taken much to change James's mind, just a little nudge in the direction she'd wanted him to go. Had he truly wanted to leave her, her little mind trick would not have worked.

At least now, Harry had a chance for a normal life and that was what mattered. If James proved unable to handle what Harry was, then she could leave.

Lilith's head came up suddenly, her gaze was sharp and focused. Something was wrong. Rising to her feet, she gently gathered Harry into her arms. With a thought, she vanished from the hospital room.

"SO, she's not human?" Sirius said eyes wide. "Blimey, I thought we'd have known about something like that."

James shrugged, taking a long drink of whisky. "Not if she wanted to hide it," he said."

"What did you say her name was?" Remus asked.

"She said her name was Lilith," James answered.

"That is one of her names," Sirius said.

James arched an eyebrow. "Oh?"

"Her other name is Hecate."

"As in the Goddess of magic?"

"The very same," Sirius said.

"Bloody hell," James whispered. He grinned. "I shagged the goddess of magic."

Sirius gaped. "Yeah you did, good on you mate."

James stiffened, drawing his wand.

"What is it?" Remus asked urgently.

"Someone has breached the wards."

"Who?" Sirius asked.

"I don't know," James said standing. "Whoever it is, they've got a dark mark."

The door burst open with a crash. Turning, James froze as he saw a tall woman with dark hooded eyes and long black hair.

"Bellatrix," he whispered.

The woman grinned. "Hello Jamie, it has been a while."

She glanced at Sirius. "Cousin," she nodded to him. "Scum," she said waving at Remus."

"Coming from you, I'd consider that a compliment," Remus said coolly.

"How did you get passed the wards?"

Bellatrix's smile widened as she turned to James. "That is the interesting part,"

A small plump man with watery eyes and dark hair stepped out from behind Bellatrix.

"Peter?" James said, feeling as though a knife had been plunged into his heart.

Peter trembled. "T-they made me," he whimpered.

"Don't lie," Bellatrix said harshly. "You willingly submitted to the Dark Lord. You fed him information for years."

Peter moaned. "You promised," he wailed.

"We went to school together," James said. "You were like a brother to me. How could you do this?"

"He was taking over everywhere," Peter said. "He promised that my Mother and I could live if I served him."

"And you bought that?" Sirius spat, his wand pointing unwaveringly at the small man. "Voldemort is a liar."

"The Dark Lord keeps all his promises," Bellatrix said. "He will lead the purebloods back to greatness. You have one chance to tell us where he is."

James looked at Sirius. "What are they talking about?"

"Don't play games," Bellatrix screamed. She jerked up the sleeve of her robe, showing them a skull with a snake protruding from its mouth tattooed on her arm. The tattoo looked old and faded, as if it had been made several years ago. "See," she screeched. "See?"

"See what?" Sirius said.

Another figure stepped up beside Bellatrix. He was a tall hulking man with scraggly brown hair and piercing grey eyes. "It's faded," the man said, his voice rumbling in his chest. "A few hours ago, it was as clear as if he'd just given it to us. Tell us what you done with him."

"We've done nothing to your precious master," James spat.

"Lies," the man hissed.

"Rodolphus," Sirius said. "I think being married to my cousin has fried your brain. Why would you think that we did something to Voldemort?"

"Because we are his inner circle. We know that he went to show you fools the error of trifling with him."

"What exactly do you think we did?" Remus asked. "Voldemort is powerful. The only one who has a chance of beating him is Dumbledore."

Bellatrix snorted. "Like the old Muggle lover could harm our master."

"If you can't be persuaded to tell us, I suppose we shall have to make you."

It happened fast. The man drew his wand, firing a blast of red light at James.

James ducked the spell and returned fire with a bolt of blue light that shattered the door behind the intruders into splinters.

"A bone breaker," Bellatrix taunted. "Didn't think one of Dumbledore's lapdogs would use something so lethal."

James didn't answer. Instead, he fired another bone breaker at Bellatrix's head. Bellatrix ducked and the spell struck Peter in the shoulder, shattering his collarbone.

Peter howled in pain, falling to the ground. James ignored his former friend, blocking a volley of curses from Bellatrix with a hastily conjured shield."

Sirius fired a cutting curse, opening Rodolphus's throat, spraying blood everywhere. Bellatrix let out a scream like a wounded cat and fired a jet of green light at Sirius.

Remus tackled Sirius out of the way. Rolling over, they both watched as the wall where they'd been standing burst into flames.

"Thanks," Sirius said climbing back to his feet.

They both turned to watch as James dueled Bellatrix. Lights and fire collided in midair, causing both the combatants to duck the rebounding spells.

"What do we do?" Remus asked.

"Do?" Sirius said. "We're gonna help."

Remus grunted, blood flowing from his mouth. Sirius turned and saw Peter lying behind Remus, a silver knife clutched in his fist.

Remus's eyes went wide. "Peter," he said weakly.

Hearing his friends voice, James glanced at Remus. That was all Bellatrix needed.

"Avada Kedavra," Bellatrix shrieked. James's eyes widened and he turned just in time for a green lightning bolt to strike him in the chest. James collapsed like a puppet with its strings cut.

A tall muscular man stepped through the door. "Rodolphus," he said hurrying to his fallen brother. He brushed his blond hair out of his face and knelt beside his brother.

"Who did this?" he said icily.

For once, Sirius didn't have a snarky response. He stared at his best friend's body. He felt numb. Was James really dead?

"You," Rabastan said, his voice filled with fury. "You'll pay for what you did to my brother.

"No, he won't," Lily said appearing behind Rabastan.

Rabastan turned and glared at the redhead. "Who are you?"

"Until recently I was Lily Potter. Now I'm going back to my true name, Lilith." You can call me Hecate if you wish."

"Yeah right," Rabastan said snorting with disbelief.

Lilith reached out and touched his forehead. "Believe it," she said.

Rabastan stiffened. His mouth dropped open. "What are you…" he began before his body crumbled into dust.

Brushing her hands off, Lilith turned to face Bellatrix. "I may have use for you." She clicked her fingers, Bellatrix crumpled to the ground, unconscious.

"She killed James," Sirius said harshly.

"I know," Lilith said casting a glance at James's body. She shifted an arm she'd kept curled close to her chest, revealing Harry's sleeping form.

"Is that my godson?" Sirius said eyes wide.

Lilith nodded as she knelt next to Remus, pressing two fingers to his neck to check for a pulse.

"Is he…" Sirius choked on the words.

"Yes," Lilith whispered a single tear running down her cheek.

"Peter did this," Sirius said.

Lilith gestured, chains appearing out of thin air, wrapping around Peter tightly. "I'll leave him for the aurors."

"No," Peter whined. Both Lilith and Sirius ignored him.

Lilith turned to leave. "I'll see you around."

"Wait," Sirius said.

Lilith glanced at him. "Yes?"

"I want to come with you. I can't stay here. Harry is my godson. I want to be there for him.

Lilith looked at him without speaking for a moment. "Come on then," she said extending a hand.

Sirius took her hand. Lilith looked at Peter.

"You will tell the truth," she said, her eyes glowing orange. A ring of orange light surrounded Peter's head before sinking into his skull.

"Now we can leave," she said to Sirius.

They vanished, leaving the bodies of James and Remus behind. Peter let out a scream of terror that echoed through the night.

A/N Sorry this is so late. Had to get a new computer and then transfer files from old computer to the new computer.

There is a bright side. Up through chapter five has been written. I hope you enjoy.
