May muses 24: Powerless

Day 24 of May Muses! The idea for today: What if Zelena had taunted Snowing about Emma and Henry during the missing year?

They couldn't believe it was happening again. A manic witch was after their child. It wasn't fair! They deserved a happily ever after, so why were they continually denied one? It was made all the worse by knowing that they were separated from Emma and Henry still. Would one of them have known what to do? They would never know.

"My, you two are awful gloomy for a couple normally so sickly sweet." Came a voice from the window. Charming immediately got in front of Snow. Snow's hands went to her slowly growing belly. Zelena giggled cruelly from her position on her broomstick.

"Stay away from my family." Charming growled. Zelena wasn't threatened by him in the slightest.

"Oh please. You can't be that worried about the little bundle. You already gave up one child without so much as a backwards glance, why should this one be any different?"

"Do not speak of something you know nothing about." Snow snarled. They did not give their daughter up. It was not that simple. The corners of Zelena's mouth twitched upwards, happy that she seemed to have struck a nerve.

"Oh, but I know all about your daughter." She said quietly. Snow and Charming's hearts turned to ice.

"Emma's in the Land without magic." Charming said, his confidence wavering. "You can't hurt her, or Henry, there." He said…and she couldn't, could she?

"Aw, but why would I want to hurt poor, innocent, Emma?" The Wicked Witch said, placing her hand over her heart. She waved her hand, the mirror in their bedroom wavered slightly. Then, an image appeared. Snow and Charming were immediately captivated by the image. It was their daughter. It had been months since they'd seen her last. Oh how they missed her. She was sitting at a table, but Henry wasn't the person opposite her. It was an unknown man. He leaned forward and pressed his lips to Emma's. That took Snow and Charming by surprise. She was in a relationship?

"What does this prove?" Snow asked. "She seems happy. That's what we wanted."

"Oh, Emma dearest is happy." Zelena said coolly. "My little pet Walsh is doing a fabulous job. He is enjoying life without a tail." Snow and Charming felt fury growing within them. "Oh? Did I forget to mention that Emma's new squeeze is one of my little pets? Silly me." She finished with another cold giggle. "Sleep well, Charmings." With that, Zelena sped away on her broom. Of course Snow and Charming would not sleep well that night. How could they? The Wicked Witch had managed to get to their daughter in such a way that they were powerless to protect her.
