Chapter 3- The Steps

Hello everybody! I wrote the first two chapters over winter break. I also have football starting up again soon, since we didn't play in the fall like normal. The governor of my state kind of sucks so yeah. I would expect the frequency of chapters to not be every week. I will try to get them out every other week, or a minimum of once a month. I'm getting such good support on this story and I love it. I'm having a good time writing it too. So I would like to thank Bakes For Dem, and The conmanw for the reviews on chapter two.

Third Person POV

The process of turning a mortal into a god is a complicated process with several steps. The first step is the job of Lord of the underworld, Hades. Who thanks to Percy, now has a throne on Olympus. Rather than being annoyed by having to do this tedious task, Hades is glad to help.

After taking Percy's body from the heartbroken Annabeth, Hades takes the near dead Percy to the underworld with him. Flashing into a room dedicated for this purpose, the god gets to work. He carefully puts Percy on a table in the middle of the dark room. Percy makes an incomprehensible sound. Around the room are many objects. A camera to film the process, the table, a desk with many books and journals on it, a small stand with tools to aid the process on it, and a chair where Poseidon is sitting, just watching.

Hades grabs a journal, makes a few notes, before grabbing a weird looking bowl. The bowl has a wire sticking out of it with a small control pad with a switch on it. The bowl has no exposed top. The top is enveloped by a black plastic and a long tube. On the end of the tube is one that looks to be a vacuum cleaner part.

"What are you going to do? Vacuum my son? Do we have mother-in-laws coming?" Poseidon asks.

"Without my power essentially yes. With my power, this will suck the soul out of Percy, and be stored in this bowl here. Then after we switch out the red blood for ichor, we can put the soul back." Hades responds, and performs the soul sucking operation quickly and with no errors. In a matter of seconds, a very tiny, transparent, and unconscious Percy is seen laying inside the glass bowl. "You have never seen this process brother?" Hades asks.

"No I have not. I am not Zeus who turns sons into god's because he likes them or they invented a drink. Percy deserves this. Besides, I thought god's were made just by using your power and willing them to be? I have seen Apollo do that once back in ancient Greece."

"The difference between this and that, is willing them to become a god uses some of your Godly essence. Making it so that when you are in your true form, you are very slightly weaker. Do it a lot, and it is substantial. I used my essence once, to make this room and these tools. Now a god can be made without using your essence. Plus, the way you spoke of is painful for the person. Percy here would have likely died doing that, and it is much, much more complicated to turn a person into a god when they are dead since we do not have a living body of theirs."

Poseidon nodded his head and waved for Hades to continue his work. Hades next used various bloodworking tools to replace the mortal blood with golden ichor. The blood of the gods. When the body was fully golden ichor, it glowed very brightly before calming down. Yet the body still looked different. Flawless, you would say. Various minor cuts and bruises started fading.

Then Hades, grabbed the tube from the bowl, and you could see mini Percy fly back into his body. The god of the underworld, made more notes in journals, a few drawings, quickly flipped through pages of books, inspected Percy's body, before giving a job to Poseidon.

"We are done here now. The first step is complete. Now we should give Percy time to heal and adjust to the new immortal state, as he is not a god yet. Normally it might take half a day, but put him in water and should maybe take a few hours at most. When you deem him to be well, call a meeting in the throne room." Hades instructed Poseidon, who nodded and scooped up the now immortal Percy.

Poseidon flashed them down to his kingdom of Atlantis in the deep ocean. Where he carried an unconscious Percy to a bedroom in the palace that he reserves for important guests. The sea god stared at his son for a while. Poseidon had never felt such attachment to one of his half-blood children. Percy was different though. Everyone would agree with that statement. Percy, like no other, has the ability to be unlucky, but lucky at the exact same time. Unlucky, because he has to fight to live every day of his mortal life. And Percy was finally overcome. Percy faces more challenges than any other mortal. Yet Percy is lucky. His infectious personality makes everyone love him. The relationships he has forged you don't see anywhere else. A mortal might live to pass time, with nothing to look forward to, and going through a boring life. Percy knows he might die any day, and lives like it too. Not anymore. He will be a god, never ending, always living, until he joins past deities in the realm of the faded.

Poseidon's Percy reflection is interrupted by his wife, the Queen of the sea, Amphitrite. "May I come in love?" The beautiful sound only a goddess could make is heard on the other side of the door.

"Yes enter!" Poseidon bellows. Amphitrite opens the door, and walks over to Poseidon, before wrapping her arms around him. She had sensed him in the room but didn't know why he was in here, she also sensed another immortal presence and wanted to know who it was.

"So the product of your affair is soon to be a god now?" Amphitrite scoffs.

"We have fought this many times, my Queen. We both know how it will go. You will still hold Percy accountable for my broken oath, and I will tell you he is undeserving of the coldness you show to him. But yes, we are currently in the process of Perseus' ascension to godhood. And Amphitrite, I know you don't want to but I would like it if you were in the throne room when Percy receives his domains. Triton too. He is going to be with us forever now, so the sooner everyone gets along the better."

"Poseidon you seriously cannot expect us to do that!"

"I could order you as one of the big three, to attend the event. In fact, I will. I will also order you to spend time with your stepson later."

"You dog!" Amphitrite growls and storms out of the room. Poseidon just sighs and looks at Percy soaking up the water around him, receiving energy from it, and being healed. A truly magical thing it is.

Then the sea god also walks out of the room, and calls for some mermen to watch over the door, and notify him when Percy is awake. Poseidon is a busy god, and has duties to attend to. The sea is a very big place.

Time Skip + Percy POV (Woah ain't seen this guy in a hot minute)

In the few seconds after I wake up, in the grayness before I recall who I am and where I am, I have a few seconds of bliss. The only conscious moment of the day where I have no thoughts, duties, worries, responsibilities, stress, or anxiety. As soon as the grayness arrives, it is gone. I am awake. Awake?

I quickly sit up in my bed and gasp. Wait bed? Where am I? This isn't where you go when you die! I'm not at the DOA studios! I'm underwater, in a room. No no no no everything has gone wrong. Annabeth this has all gone wrong. I died. I got stabbed. The absolute worst thing that could've happened. But what is this? I'm not dead but I don't think I'm alive.

Maybe I'm not dead yet? This could be a weird dream in the moments before death. Directly after the Titan stabbed me with his poking device. I've never lucid dreamed before. Maybe this is a first though. To wake myself up I need to… pinch myself! Yes that should work!

So I start slapping my arms, and cheeks, and pinching myself all over. Yet I don't wake up. Then I notice something. Where I have been pinching and slapping myself, rather than the surface of the skin being rosy red, it is gold.

I did die, but the gods have done exactly what I have refused before. They turned me into an immortal. I see the door, put a scowl on my face, and GTFO ready to go all BAMF on the nearest god here who is responsible.

I slam open the door, startling two sleeping mermen, which further confirms where I am. Atlantis, in my father's palace. Their faces turn white as snow as I glare at the guards.

"Billy he-he's awake. We should notify Lord Poseidon now!" The one on the left squeaks.

"Ya-ya good idea! You stay with Lord Perseus and I'll go get Lord Poseidon bye!" And the one on the right swam off in search of my dad.

"Wait Billy! Ah crap." Then the one not named Billy who is still here finally talks to the glaring me. "Did-did you enjoy your rest, Lord Perseus?" He then makes a nervous smile. Why are these mermen scared of me? Do I look super dangerous? I'm not mad at the mermen, just the gods.

"I thought only the fish called me Lord Perseus? Why are you guys?" I question the merman.

"You know that's not really for me to say right now. I'm just a seaweed farmer serving some time in the mermen guard." Then he starts talking to himself in a murmur. "Lucius you should stop talking! Yeah good idea. Oh hey look there's Lord Poseidon!" The merman, who I presume is named Lucius, points down the hallway where I see my dad. As soon as I turn my head I hear the sound of water being moved and hear Lucius swimming in the opposite direction like his tail is on fire.

Dad smiles at me as he swims toward me. I only glare. If I have denied godhood in the past, why would it not be the same now? I don't want my mom and Paul and Annabeth to grow old and die, and all my friends die, while I just stay here, ever living, never changing. The best part about life is there is growth, the ability to mature. I don't know if it is physically impossible, or just a stubborn mindset of the gods that they never change.

"You dare dad? You have turned me into an immortal! I'm this close to blowing the top of my head off like I did to that mountain!" I shout at my dad.

"Perseus I can understand why you're upset, but-" Dad starts to talk before I interrupt him in a way he doesn't like. An uppercut right in the stomach.

He keels over wheezing. "You have no- *cough cough* right to treat an Olympian like that! Son or no!" He stands up, leaning on his trident and clutching his stomach. "Perseus I'm sorry I really am. But this isn't just about you my boy. I have feelings too, despite how distant I can act. And your mother agreed with me. I had her consent to ascend you to god hood. You may not want to see them die, but son, we don't want to see you die either."

Then I break down quivering, apologizing to Dad. He stands there awkwardly as I am on my knees crying. Probably as he doesn't really have experience comforting people.

I had never thought about it in that way before. I'd been so selfless, I didn't realize I was actually being selfish. Mom would hate to see me die. It would kill her. If I was a God, she wouldn't have to stress about her one and only son being brutally murdered on a daily basis. Neither would Paul.

Annabeth. What about Annabeth? Did she survive the battle? Oh my gosh. If I'm a god, how will our relationship continue? She's the love of my life. I could never. "Did she survive?" I ask my godly father in between moments of bawling.

"Annabeth did luckily. Most of the camp did. Only a few died in the attack. She is extremely upset. But she's a tough young lady Percy, she will get over your godhood eventually." He said in a soothing voice.

"What are my domains? I don't feel like I have any new powers. Just a little stronger." I asked as I finally calmed down.

Poseidon kneeled down to my level. "Technically you are not a God. Just an immortal. There are a few steps left until then. Now that you are healed Perseus, you must accompany me to the throne room where the final steps take place."

I took a moment to steady myself, and make it look like I wasn't just crying for the past bit. It hasn't been long since I woke up on the day of my birthday, only nearly 2 days, but it feels as if it has been 2 years. So much has happened in such a short time. Crazy.

I nodded to Dad, and he grabbed my shoulder and flashed us into the throne room. Before we left though I saw that one Lucius merman peeking around the corner. Sneaky guy. Wonder what he was up to?

When we appeared in the throne room, only Zeus and Apollo, who were talking quietly, and Hestia were present at the moment. Hestia was in her 8 year old form, managing the hearth. She smiled warmly at us, and walked to her throne. She grew to full height which was really strange to see an 8 year old suddenly become an adult and grow to 20 feet tall.

Hestia coughed and announced our presence to the king of the gods and the rider of the sun chariot. "Brother, Nephew, They are here."

Zeus waved Apollo back to his throne, and welcomed us. "So Perseus, despite your best efforts in trying not too, you just had to become a God anyway. I will call the meeting now, and we can get started in the painful process of blasting you with godly power. I'm sure Ares will enjoy your screams." Zeus said, and I paled.

Zeus threw his lighting bolt in the throne room, alerting the other Olympians to a meeting. One by one God's started flashing in. I no longer had to look away as I had ichor instead of blood. Artemis appeared first, making eye contact with me and nodding. Ares appeared second, a smirk on his face. Athena appeared last oddly enough, and she was the only God to not take a glance at me. She just walked straight to her throne and looked down the whole time.

"Fellow Olympians!" Zeus started. "We are gathered here today to welcome Perseus Jackson into the godly family. First we will blast him with our energy, then the fates will bestow upon him domains. You all know we have done this a few times before."

"Why do you guys have to 'blast me' as you put it?" I ask quickly. Hades responds to my question.

"Replacing your blood with ichor only turned you into an immortal, and gave you the ability to turn into a God. Blasting you with our godly energy is like stretching before you go on a run I guess you would say. Except more painful. We are warming you up for your domains. Giving you more power before you get your domains so it is easier on you." I nod, satisfied with the answer I was given.

"Are you going to countdown from 3 as you did last time husband?" Hera asks.

"Yes dear. Is everyone ready?" Zeus asks. All the gods on their thrones nod or give quick yes's. "Good. I will countdown from 3. When I say go, go. So on 3… 2… 1… GO!" Zeus yells.

All the god's point their symbol of power at me, and rays of different colors come out of them. Poseidon's being sea green, Athena's gray, Zeus's white, Ares blood red, and so on and so forth.

Zeus was right when he said it would be painful. The only feeling to rival this would be when I jumped in the river Styx. I felt as if I was burning, and my insides were being bubbled. I also felt emotions. You can probably guess what emotions came from who. Lust (Aphrodite), pride (Poseidon), indifference (Dionysus), satisfaction (Ares), and also sadness for some reason. I have no guess at who would be sad right now.

Finally after what felt like ages but was probably only a few minutes, the rays of power stopped. I was left in a steaming mess on the ground. I just laid there groaning. After a few seconds though, I didn't feel pain, I felt power. I feel like I could run a lap around the world, or go in a boxing match with Ares. The groaning turned into a surprise gasp as it was weird going from a 10 to a 1 on the pain scale that quick.

"How did step 3 feel, Perseus?" Hades asks, breaking the silence.

"The best way to describe it is it hurts so good." I say laughing. A few of the Olympians laugh as well. "But now do I know my domains?" I ask.

Zeus answers that one. "The fates should be here any moment now. Which I presume is the final step in your ascension nephew."

"And speak of the devil!" Ares shouts as the fates flash into the throne room. There was one thing very, very off about the fates though. All the gods noticed it as well, and all of them had stunned faces.

The fates every time I've seen them have been 3 old and ugly grandma's. And 2 of them still were. The middle fate, Lachesis the allotter, and Atropos the inflexible, were still very old and very ugly. The sister on the left, was shockingly young and surprisingly beautiful. Annabeth taught me all their names, and Clotho the spinner didn't match the others. She had somehow turned back the time on her appearance or something. Very strange.

Clotho smiled at me. I just stared at her. Lachesis looked at her sister as if in a disapproving manner, before turning to me and speaking. "Perseus Jackson!" She croaked.

"Umm uh yes that's me." I squeaked.

"Now as the sisters of fate, we will assign you your domains." Then all around me turned black. I was standing on black, which still felt like the throne room floor, but wherever I looked I could only see black. Yet I could still see my body and the fates clearly so this had to be some sort of thing in my head.

"Before we start can I just clear the elephant in the room and ask why the fu- I mean why Clotho is young instead of old?" I butt in.

Clotho responds, smiling her beautiful shiny smile and wonderful dimples at me. She spins her dark brown hair in her finger as she says this to me. "Perseus Jackson you have made me young again! It is so very boring and monotonous spinning the predictable stories of these mortals and gods. But you! I have had a fun time spinning your story Perseus Jackson. You took the wrinkles out of my face."

"Clotho you have disobeyed your oath to our mother Ananke!" Atropos shouts.

"You went outside of the limitations given to you Clotho! And you know this!" Lachesis also shouts.

Clotho scoffs. "You two are just jealous of me. I have the most important job and effect the most of fate. So what I go outside of my limitations for the first time? I'm beautiful again."

I stood there with a look of outrage on my face, a vein popping out on my head. She has taken the liberty of making my life a living tragedy? A clusterf*ck of Monsters and Titans and Giants and Primordials who not only target the gods, but make me be the poster boy hero of all their battles? I'm the one exception in all of history that has to deal with the most sh*t! Completely unfair.

I try to shout, but nothing comes out. I have no voice in this dark atmosphere. Probably so I have no input as to what my domains are. It is completely the fates' choice.

The fates brush aside their argument with each other, obviously having gone through it a few times. "Perseus Jackson" They all say as one. Kind of creepy. And they continue talking as one. "Son of the Olympian God Poseidon, and of the mortal woman Sally Jackson, is hereby ascended to godhood with the domains of tides, heroes, and swordsmanship. As the fates-" They start on the finishing line, before being cut off by a voice coming from everywhere.

"AND UNPREDICTABILITY!" The voice bellows into the abyss. The voice has tons of power. My knees actually buckle and I fall to the ground. I see the fates are hovering a few feet less off the ground, and they all look extremely scared. Something you would never expect to see on the fates.

The fates continue with giving me my domains. "With the domains of tides, heroes, swordsmanship, and unpredictability. As the fates we now name you a GOD. Take care of your domains young immortal."

With that I then found myself back in the throne room. The fates were no longer there, and all the gods were staring at me. "Well?" Zeus says to me.

I gulp. "I'm sorry what?"

"What are your domains boy?"

"Oh! Uh, tides, heroes, swordsmanship, and uhh, unpredictability." I stammer out.

"Hmpff. Suits you well." He says to me.

"Aren't you forgetting something brother?" Poseidon says to Zeus.

"What? Oh right yes. All hail Perseus Jackson! Minor God of tides, heroes, swordsmanship, and unpredictability!" Zeus booms.

"All hail Perseus Jackson!" The rest of the council chants. I just stand in the middle of the enormous room, smiling awkwardly and blushing. This was a lot of power I am being given. Do I deserve it? I'm not cocky but I think I do. But do I want this power? No is the answer. Alas, I have no choice. My only choice is to adapt to my new life.

"Am I free to go now?" I ask when they're done chanting.

"Are you kidding me boy? And go and kill everyone who lays your eyes on you? You need training!" Artemis shouts. My face makes an 'O' as she yells at me. I hadn't thought about my true form, which I am in right now. I don't know how to change back.

"Artemis is correct, you can't go son. Your trainers must be assigned." My dad tells me.

"Yes your trainers Perseus. Normally we would just assign some minor God's, but I think you are deserving of at least one Olympian. Poseidon who shall train him in his tides domain?" Zeus says.

"Triton shall. I am extremely busy, and it will be good for the both of them." He says which makes me groan. Two voices also groan at the back of the room. When I turn around I see it is Triton and Amphitrite. They must have come in while I was with the fates. But oh goody my half-brother dimwit godly brother gets to train me! Yay! Hint the sarcasm.

"Heroes is unique, we will think of something later for that. Swordsmanship, do you wish for Athena or Ares to train you in this domain?" Zeus asks.

"Athena!" I say quickly. I do NOT want to be stuck with that idiot Ares.

"I don't know where to begin for unpredictability, but why would you need a trainer for a domain such as that? Perseus still needs a mentor for overall godly abilities, if no one volunteers he will be assigned to a minor god."

"I will volunteer to be his mentor, brother." Hestia says from her throne. Although she is not a child as councils are 'serious' business and no one would take you seriously as an 8 year old. I smile at Hestia, hoping to convey that I am grateful.

"That is fine. So, we are done here. Council dismissed!" Zeus shouts, signaling the end of the council meeting. He does a fancy way of leaving like he always does, but I won't say as that just makes Zeus happy hearing people talk about his flair.

Several gods flash out including Hera, Dionysus, Demeter, Hephaestus, and Ares. The rest made their way to each other, or to me. Aphrodite got here first. She kissed me on the cheek before whispering in my ear "I'm always open for you baby." I just squirmed and watched her flash away laughing.

Apollo, Artemis, and Hermes came up to me one by one, either patting me on the back and saying congratulations, or saying congratulations and telling me and I quote "Now that you've got more time on your hands, don't come flirt with my hunters." You can make out who said what.

Then the part I was nervous for, Athena. She shuffled up to me. "I am honored to be your trainer Perseus. And I am very sorry about you dying and having to leave Annabeth as a mortal. I will stay in touch with you on that problem though."

"What problem? Me leaving Annabeth? I can't date her as a god!" I try to tell her.

"See you soon, young god." Then she flashed out. Very curious. I mean it isn't my fault I died! I was drunk! Wait, I haven't spoken to Dionysus yet to give him a piece of my mind. No wonder he flashed out so quickly. The whole reason I died was because Dionysus gave me that wine to drink. Or is it the fates fault? Probably both.

Next, Poseidon, Triton, and Amphitrite came to speak to me. The closest people to blood family as you can get on this messed up family tree. I may have to see that book Annabeth was reading and see if they're family stacks up against mine.

"My boy, you have made me proud today. When I heard of your fate a few days ago, I was shocked. I thought there was no way you would accept godhood. Then when I heard of an army approaching, I knew what was going to happen. I am sorry this happened." Poseidon hugs me as he says this.

"Thanks dad. Wait, is that what you meant on the bottom of the lake when you were acting weird?" I ask him.

"Correct Perseus. I was trying to warn you to have fun on your last day."

"I definitely did. More of a going away party than a birthday party though it seems now." We both laugh at the joke. Then Triton butts himself in.

"Perseus, I'm not happy about training you. To put it short I don't like you. I hope you're ready for pain coming up in our sessions." Triton says, trying to intimidate me. Amphitrite just glares at me.

"I don't think I'll sleep again after hearing that. Man shut up. Go try and scare some girl scouts or something. I've handled people much bigger than you." He just glowers at me. I have a dangerous smirk on my face as we square each other up.

"Boys! Boys! Boys! Save it for another time! Today is a happy day." Our father says.

"See you at our session Perseus." Triton says, as he and Amphitrite flash away.

"Sorry about that son. You will all warm up to each other at some point. I love you my boy. Have fun in this new chapter." Poseidon says sweetly and we hug.

"Love you too dad." I say to him smiling. He flashes out, which I can look at. Awesome. I wonder how I look? I'll need to get a mirror soon. I don't feel like my appearance has changed. Just my energy and power.

Then as the last people in the throne room, my new mentor and Hades walk up to me. Me and Hestia embrace like old friends. She is one of the only people on the council who treats me like I'm not lower than them, just as a person. Not necessarily equals though, she is definitely greater than me.

"How do you feel Perseus?" She asks me.

"Since we're going to be seeing a lot of each other, just Percy is fine. And to answer your question, I feel like wow. I think I could topple a mountain right now." She laughs her beautiful laugh, red fiery hair bouncing around her head. She isn't 8 right now. Probably forgot to turn back.

"Yes I'm sure. It must feel good gaining that much power."
"Not really. I still wish I was mortal. But I don't like to dwell on the past."
"You are very odd Percy. I like your style. We will do just fine as mentor and pupil."

"I agree."

Then Hades finally speaks. "Congratulations on completing step 4 Perseus. Now the gods get to deal with your 'style' forever."

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand done. Just a little over 5k words. This chapter took me a while to complete, and it was much harder than the first two chapters. Wasn't very fun either. But I am very excited for the next few chapters. Y'all should too! I hope how the way I came up with Percy becoming a god makes sense and isn't complicated. If so tell me. Leave a review! I love reading the reviews. And I have a small contest. Leave a review on this chapter telling me how you liked it, with a female name at the bottom. Whichever review I like best, I will use the name you give me, and name a character in the story after that name. Thanks for reading people!
