Whack

CharmingFam asked for a oneshot of…read and see

One request at a time ;)

"Remind me why we're here again?" Emma grumbled. It was roasting outside. At least the office had an AC unit. She felt like she was in some dusty sauna out here.

"Because somebody made a complaint that the kids have been in her vandalising and they're worried the whole place is going to cave in." Charming reminded her. He didn't like it any more than Emma did, but he also knew the sooner they got it done, the sooner they got to leave. Emma trudged on behind him, making a vague effort to wave her torch in the nooks and crannies of the old building. If she was honest, she didn't care if the local teens were in here tagging. If they were stupid enough to have a wooden plank fall from the floor above and wallop them in the head then it was their own stupid fault. What she wasn't expecting was for that exact thing to happen to her.

Emma froze on the spot when she heard the snapping sound. By the time she pointed her torch up, it was too late, The little plank thudded off of Emma's head, the jagged edge scratching the corner of her eye. She would have called out a lot more expletives if she wasn't suddenly seeing stars. Charming was over in an instant.

"Emma!" He cried out, deeply concerned. "Emma, honey, are you alright?" The whack had given Emma quite a fright. She knew the reasonable answer was to say yeah and move on, but she couldn't do it. Out of nowhere, she began to cry. More out of shock than pain, although it did sting a heck of a lot as well.

"Hey, it's alright." Charming said, trying to hug her whilst, at the same time, assess the injury. "That's a nasty looking cut, Em." Emma nodded, beginning to shake from shock.

"M-mom." Emma stammered. "We need to find mom." Charming nodded, he understood. She wanted both of them. "Ok, here's what I'll do. I'll call your mom and she can meet us at the hospital…"

"No!" Emma shouted. "No." She said more reasonably. "No hospital. It'll be fine with ice." Charming frowned. It really needed properly looked at. What if there were splinters still in her skin? He got it though. It was no secret that Emma was terrified of hospitals. No wonder, she had never had the best experiences with them. She'd told her parents a few stories from her childhood. Charming kissed Emma's forehead carefully.

"We'll both be with you the whole time." Charming promised her. "But that head needs looked at." Emma's eyes were still watering, but she gave up and nodded. Charming smiled. His brave girl.

Charming called Snow as they made their way outside. She was already at the hospital waiting by the time they got there. She fussed over Emma just as much as Charming had as they were led in. Emma's grip didn't loosen on either of her parents throughout the whole process. Not that either of them wanted her to let go. If holding onto them was what got her through this, that was fine by them. They were just glad it hadn't been worse.
