Chapter 26
The weekend went by in a haze after Puddlemere beat the Magpies on Friday night. I was finally introduced to Scorpius who was everything but a mini version of Draco. Much more polite and of course having to greet the very graceful Narcissa Malfoy. They did not stay long after Draco pulled me aside for a kiss and a promise to try and see each other over the weekend. I spent time pouring over work notes trying to see if there was anything else I could find but alas, I had to wait until Monday to see what came about regarding BWB or what Beatrice had sent through the floo before slipping off. Draco was not able to get out of family business for his mother and so I spent the weekend at Mr. and Mrs. Weasley's house like old times with Harry, Ron and Hermione. Overall, it was a busy weekend that still left me anxious about the work week.
Rubbing my temple, I leaned back onto the couch after my early Monday morning chat with my parents left me with a migraine. They had been notified about the explosion in my office and were angry that I did not contact them right away. I felt awful but I did not want them to worry either. After slipping into black slacks with a tan sleeveless shirt I threw on a black sweater and stepped into the floo, heading for the Malfoy Company.
"Good Morning Kerry." I greeted smiling at the witch as I came up to her desk.
"Morning Eva. I have two memos delivered by owl today for you." She replied handing over the memo's in questions.
"Thank you." Curious, I turned them around as I headed to my office hoping they used a seal to give me a hint on who it was from. I tore through the seal DM and turned the parchment over to see Draco neat handwriting.
…..
Eva,
I receive a message late last night from BWB to schedule a meeting with them early this morning. I should be tied up until its completed, but I'll update Blaise and you once I can.
DM
…
Wow, I am rather surprised that they contacted him back so quickly. Pushing the door open I dropped Draco's letter on the desk as I began to tear open the other leaning back in my chair as it creaked from the weight.
….
Eva, I don't have much time to explain but the Auror's Forensic team was able to piece enough together to give us a location on where the message was traveling to. It seems that Beatrice Wolf sent the message to a small town outside London. I, along with a group of Auror's are going to check it out. Please for the love of god, don't leave your office! You're the safest at your office at the Malfoy Company. I already sent Draco an owl and I notified Kerry to silence all traveling messages unless they are from Draco or me. - Harry
…
The letter fell out of my hands, causing me to glance down to find that they were shaking. I - I could not believe it. I rubbed my face and hastily picked up the letter reading it a second time. Not sure if I could believe it the first time. What did Draco of think of this, did Blaise know yet? Would that mean all messages from Gringotts would be halted as well?
Heading back out of the office I went straight for Kerry to see if she knew anything else, "Kerry. Did Harry send you a notification to stop messages coming to this floor?"
She turned when she heard her name and nodded, "Yes, I had already made sure nothing came through besides Mr. Malfoy and Mr. Potter."
"Do you know if Blaise is in the office today and if he was made aware? Also, am I able to still send messages out and has Gringotts been band as well?" I hurriedly remarked, bombarding her with multiple questions at once.
"Blaise was made aware but he isn't on the floor now. He went to follow up with security. Mr. Potter's message did not say anything about also allowing Gringotts messages through, however if they are marked urgent, they will be forwarded to security to analyze first before allowing it to reach this floor. You are able to send messages. Is there anything else I can help you with?"
"No. Thank you Kerry."
I mulled over her answers and decided that I needed to notify Claire to make sure she knew. Harry did not mention when they were leaving; nervously I began biting my lip. Anxious to hear from him soon and that he was safe. What was going on with Draco's meeting, would they know anything? I groaned inwardly, being stuck in the office waiting was not going to work well for me. After a message to Claire and Jacob went out, I knew that until we had another clue we were at a dead end. I needed a distraction. Which led me back to how Draco was serious about wanting to keep me on after this, I would need to start figuring out how I wanted the future layout of his investments to look. With a distraction in mind, I began to study what Draco has invested in and what seemed to be the areas or companies he preferred.
….
At the sound of my door getting pushed open I glanced up from the table, "You're back." I stated dropping the parchment as Draco shut the door. "How did the meeting go?"
He sighed, "The meeting was long and early. We discussed in depth about the Desmarais company and Gringotts implementation on creating the investment link." He began, places a kiss on my check before settling in a seat next to me, "They were curious to my decision to hire you and your work in getting Desmarais company for Gringotts, even so much to make a comment about Grant."
"It sounds like they are interested in something. Did it seem like they wanted to be involved with investments bought from Desmarais or with Gringotts?"
"They are interested. They leaned in favor of a deal with Gringotts so after a discussion regarding what Gringotts could offer them and if I may note. I did a particularly good job selling Gringotts and Grant as the partner involved. Once I have a meeting with Grootpan and the green light is given to BWB they will than supply me with a favor. Which I am planning on using to find out who is the joint owner on that account." Draco finished, a determined glint in his eye.
"That's great, when will you notify Grootpan?" I remarked with a smile.
"Already did. I am scheduled to meet him after lunch. Have you heard anything from Potter yet?"
I shook my head, "No. Nothing yet. I'm worried about where this location was and what's there."
"I wouldn't worry too much." Draco began as a smirk appeared, "He is still the 'boy who lived'."
"Ha ha." I shook my head but continued to smile, "I still haven't seen Blaise today either."
"I'm sure he's fine to."
"My mother wants to invite you offer for dinner this Friday."
"Oh?" I replied a bit surprised.
"Yes. She is under the impression that I'm late in offering an invitation." Draco supplied, eyes rolling at the topic of his mother.
I really should not be all that surprised. She had always been active in the social norms of wizarding society and it was only a matter of time. "Well I'm sure that will be fine, if that's what you want Draco."
He bit out a laugh, "I don't have much say in anything once my mother's mind is set. Scorpius and I will be there of course."
"Just make sure to tell me how formal I'm supposed to dress than; even if it's just the three of you and me."
He nodded into agreement and settled into asking what I was doing with the investment ledgers out. I started to explain how I had begun to make detailed notes in a new ledger I grabbed, notating which investments he had, how long they were in existence and which accounts they were linked to. Since Draco would be busy with his meeting with Grootpan this afternoon. I was planning to make another cheat list, that would keep a shorthand notes of these same accounts but detailing the rate they were receiving, the anticipated maturity date of the investment if applicable, along with anything else to remember. Such as, the type of business or company Draco seemed to invest into, where I would then be able to have a list of questions to ask Draco about. It would help me better understand my role as his investment advisor and purchaser.
He headed out on his way about two hours later to make sure he would have enough time put together notes for his meeting to pitch BWB to Grootpan and I went back to the investments so that I could leave a list in his office for later, along with giving one to Kerry and Blaise who I both felt were part of the process.
Now that lunch had come and passed, I stretched, planning to drop off the parchment that listed the question regarding investments when my door busted open.
"Draco?" I remarked glancing at him, panic rising by the look on his face.
"It's Blaise!" He blurted out in a hurry, rushing up to me.
"What? What's going on with Blaise." I remarked as Draco began to drag me out of the chair, "Hey! What's going on?"
"There's no time. Grab your wand!" He shouted, giving me a moment to snatch my wand as he pulled me to the door, "He's been attacked, he's been sent to St. Mungo's!"
My heart dropped, "What? Is he okay?" I tried asking, but Draco just ignored the question as he pulled us out into the hallway, "Wait!"
I shouted, trying to pull my hand out of his grasp, which he was currently cursing at me for. I stopped as a patronus message light up the hallway. Not just any patronus- Harry's.
