3rd Person POV
White Clouds
Day 31 of the Verdant Rain Moon
Bambietta and her Golden Deer went to the tower.
"Say, Teach. This must be the tower, don't you think? Even for a tower, it's pretty... er, towering." Claude told.
"I'd say it's more like a fortress." Bambietta pointed out.
"It's a remnant of ancient wars... Those thieves certainly found themselves a great place to nest. I hear their leader, Miklan, is a former noble. It makes sense that he would already know about this place." Claude said.
"Several hundred years ago, this was an important stronghold for diffusing invasions from the north. Back then, this tower was built for both surveillance and defense. It will be difficult to seize it." A man with orange hair declared as he appeared.
"Gilbert, isn't it? You hail from the Kingdom, right? No wonder you're so knowledgeable. While we're chatting so amicably... Do you mind if I ask some questions?" Claude asked.
"I don't mind. If I can answer them, I will." Gilbert nodded.
"Have you ever seen the Lance of Ruin?"
"I have. A long time ago. It was an impressive, if not eerily ominous, weapon to behold. According to Margrave Gautier, Miklan has used the lance to turn the tables on his pursuers."
"Is that right? Then those without a Crest can use it as well... Interesting. As far as I knew, that wasn't possible. And then we have the mythical Sword of the Creator, which can't be used by anyone except Teach, Crest or no Crest. Maybe you're just that special, Teach. Or maybe there's something you're not telling us. Either way, I expect big things from you in this battle." Claude said to Bambietta.
"Leave it to me." Bambietta nodded.
"Ha! I love a good show of confidence. I'll do my best too. You can count on it." Claude declared. Suddenly, he NOW notices the rain. "Ugh, the rain is really coming down now. Let's finish this quickly."
Tower of Black Winds
Bambietta POV
I brought Claude, Mari, Hilda, Ingrid, Caspar, Sylvain, Leonie, Ferdinand, and Linhardt with me to battle. I also brought in Petra as my Adjutant. We began the battle after that.
"The enemy is close by. We're almost to the top floor." Gilbert told us.
"Phew, why did we have to climb so high before a battle? At least it's better than fighting in heavy rain." Claude wiped his sweat off.
"Sylvain..." I called.
"Don't hold back for my sake. My brother is going to pay for everything he's done." Sylvain declared.
"If you say so..." I replied.
My students and I advanced.
A Fighter attacks and misses Claude.
Another Fighter attacks and misses me. I counter twice, defeating that Fighter.
The rest of the enemies do nothing.
Gilbert advances.
Linhardt attacks and hits the fighter attacking Claude with his Cutting Gale.
Hilda finishes off that Fighter. She grows in magic, speed, and charm.
The rest of my students and I advance.
Two thieves appear from the stairs we came in. "The captain's in trouble! Hurry up, you fools!" One of them exclaimed.
"Enemies approach from the lower floors! Watch the rear flank!" Gilbert warned before he advances.
My students and I advance.
A thief attacks me with Assault Troop, but misses.
The two thieves that recently appeared advance.
Gilbert attacks one of those thieves and deals massive damage to that thief. The thief retaliates, but neither his first nor second attack did any damage.
I attack the thief that attacked me. Even though he hit me, I manage to defeat him. I receive a Chest Key, but it's useless to me, so I sent it to the convoy.
Claude used Curved Shot on a Mage, hitting her.
The rest of my students advance.
The mage attacks Claude up close and hits him with Fire.
The thieves stupidly attack Gilbert only to get struck down by his Steel Axe.
Gilbert advances.
I open the chest in front of me and I obtain an Armorslayer, a sword capable of taking down anyone wearing armor.
Ferdinand finishes off the Mage.
The rest of my students advance.
Gilbert advances as well.
My students and I advance.
Two thieves suddenly appear in front of most of my students. I say most as Claude is far ahead of the two thieves. "Here we go! Attack them from both sides!"
"It's an ambush!" Gilbert alerted. Yeah. We know!
Two more thieves appear from the stairs as another thief and a Mage advance.
Claude uses Fusillade on the Mage that advanced, defeating him and hitting the thief, rattling him.
Leonie hits one of the thieves in front of her group with a Training Bow.
Ferdinand finishes that thief off.
Linhardt hits the other thief with Cutting Gale.
Sylvain finishes that thief off.
The rest of my students and I advance.
Two more thieves appear and the two thieves that appeared from the stairs advance.
I shoot at one of the thieves, defeating that thief. I grew in maximum life energy, speed, defense, and charm.
Leonie shoots at another thief which hits him.
Linhardt finishes that thief off with Cutting Gale.
Mari finished off another thief.
The rest of my students advance.
The thieves from the stairs advance.
Gilbert advances.
My students and I advance.
The thieves from the stairs keep advancing as well as Gilbert.
Claude shoots at a Fortress Knight twice and grows in strength, magic, dexterity, speed, and luck.
Mari heals Claude with Physic. She has mastered her Monk class, granting her the ability to increase her magic and the combat art Draw Back.
The rest of my students advance.
The Fortress Knight attacks and hits Claude, dealing massive damage to him.
Claude hits the Fortress Knight with Fusillade and masters his Fighter class, granting him the ability to increase his strength and the combat art Shove.
Linhardt heals Claude with Physic, his healing prowess increased with his Crest.
The rest of my students and I advance. I equip my Iron Sword.
A fighter attacks me, but I dodge and counter him twice. My adjutant Petra grows in speed, luck, defense, and charm.
An archer attacks me and hits me, but I counter her twice thanks to my Chalice of Beginnings.
Another archer attacks me to the same result.
The two thieves advance.
Another archer attacks Gilbert twice but deals no damage due to Gilbert's absurd defense.
Claude finishes off the Fortress Knight. He also receives an Accuracy Ring that he sends to the Convoy.
The rest of my students and I advance.
All of the enemies except Miklan advance as well as Gilbert.
Caspar defeats a thief with his Steel Gauntlets. He receives a Vulnerary, causing him to throw his used vulnerary into the Convoy.
I defeat an archer with Assault Troop, causing the thief and fighter behind him to get rattled.
The rest of my students advance.
The Armored Knight attacks and hits Caspar with Assault Troop. Another Fighter tries to do the same thing to me, but I dodged that.
An archer attacks and hits Caspar.
I trade my Iron Sword for the Steel Sword+ I won at a tournament and defeat the thief that tried to hit me with his own Assault Troop, letting me grow in maximum life energy, strength, magic, and charm. Petra grew in dexterity and luck. I also received another Vulnerary which I sent into the convoy.
Mari heals Caspar with Physic and grows in magic and dexterity.
Caspar attacks the armored knight with Helm Splitter. The armored knight counters, but Caspar dodges. Caspar grows in resistance and charm.
Leonie shoots at an archer who shoots back and hits her, but she hits back, defeating the archer and growing in dexterity, speed, and defense.
A thief attacks me and hits me, but I counter and defeat her, receiving another Vulnerary which I send into the convoy.
The armored knight hits another Assault Troop on Caspar, rattling Ferdinand and Mari.
Gilbert advances.
I defeat the fighter I rattled earlier, getting yet another Vulnerary from him.
Leonie hits the armored knight that kept hitting Caspar with gambits. Her authority level rises.
Caspar finishes off the armored knight with Smash, giving him YET ANOTHER Vulnerary. HOW MANY VULNERARIES DO YOU STUPID THIEVES NEED!? ...Ahem. He sends that Vulnerary to the convoy.
The rattled Ferdinand and Mari do nothing.
The rest of my students advance.
The thieves advance while Gilbert does the same, but towards the thieves.
My students advance while the thieves do the same. Gilbert advances towards the thieves.
I start shit with Miklan. "So, you think you can take the lance from me, huh? I'll kill you... I'll kill every last one of you!" Miklan growled.
"Talk's cheap, Miklan." I boasted as I shot him twice. He also seemed to take additional damage. ...Weird, but not inconvenient.
Hilda uses Stride on Claude, giving him, Ingrid, Mari, and Sylvain extra movement.
The rest of my students advance.
The platform Miklan's standing in heals him.
The thieves idiotically attack Gilbert and take massive damage from him. Gilbert defeats one of them.
Hilda uses Stride on Ingrid, giving Ferdinand and Sylvain extra movement.
Sylvain goes to battle his brother. ...Okay, Sylvain. What have you gotta say?
"Why have you come, you Crest-bearing fool?" Miklan asked.
"I'm here for the Lance of Ruin, Miklan. Hand it over. I don't want to humiliate you, but I will." Sylvain said.
"Hmph! Hurry up and die already. If not for you... If it hadn't been for you..."
"Shut up! I'm so tired of hearing that. You've always blamed me for something that isn't my fault." Sylvain growled. He defeats his brother after taking some damage. He grows in strength, magic, speed, luck, and defense.
"Not bad for your kind... A bunch of spoiled rotten children." Miklan complimented back-handedly. Suddenly, the Lance of Ruin grew some black and red veins, swarming around Miklan. He tried to get it off, but it was no use. "What the hell!?" He gasped. Any thieves that were apparently hidden and tried to remain safe look confused and surprised. He screamed as he kept struggling before the black and red completely consumed him.
"Damn! Look at that... I'm outta here!" One of the thieves exclaimed as he and every other thief, except for one, ran away.
"Hold on!" The thief left asked of the other thieves. The black and red veins evaporated. What was once Miklan is now a giant monster. The monster grabs the thief that was left behind and crushed his head and threw him into the wall.
The beast roars intensely, its saliva dripping all over its mouth. Ew.
"What the- Miklan!? Is that you!?" Sylvain exclaimed.
"That form..." Sothis spoke.
"You know something about it, Sothis?" I whispered to her.
"Oh my. Is this your first time fighting such a thing? Then listen well to what I say." Sothis told me. "An evil power has caused them to grow quite large. Their life force is beyond a mortal like yourself. You cannot win unless you fell them twice, thrice, or even four times!" She started.
"Even if you've cornered one, you cannot let your guard down! Those things are even worse when threatened." She taught about its abilities.
"Can you see that barrier? It is surrounded by great power. You must break through to fight that thing. A strong attack or gambit might help to break through more quickly. If you can break the barrier, that power will have nowhere else to go, and that will likely cause confusion for that thing. It cannot counter while confused, which means that is the best time to attack!" She declared about its barriers and confusion.
"If you break down all of their barriers, not only will they be confused, they will not be able to move for a short while. Without the power flowing around them, they will not be able to restore their barriers. You might even be able to get something from them." She explained about armor breaks.
"They have such might that they will not fear you alone. But a battalion could prove useful on that front... Attack them with a gambit to draw their attention and force them to target you." She kept going about Gambits against monsters.
"Be on your guard when they have realized their full power! The damage caused at times like that is not contained to just one spot. Once they have charged some power up, their barriers will be restored. You must really pay close attention to those things! Distract them with a Gambit, or just take them down before they can attack. In any case, think carefully before you act!" She finished her explanation with a monsters' Staggering Blows.
"So... how'd you learn all this, anyway?" I asked her.
"But you should be conquering that thing instead of talking to me! If you're out of questions, get over there and fight!" Sothis ordered.
...Well, fine. Not like I WANTED to know.
"How awful... So the Heroes' Relics are hiding a terrible power within. I can't even tell friend from foe anymore. I feel for him, but... the best we can do now is finish this quickly." Claude advised.
Mari heals Sylvain.
I attack the monster that growls at me with Ruptured Heaven, the combat art exclusive to the Sword of the Creator. That dealt a lot of damage. The monster counters, but I dodge its attack.
Ferdinand hits the monster with Mad Melee.
Sylvain attacks the monster with Assault Troop. "What is that? It's like watching a bad dream come to life." Sylvain pointed out as the monster growls at him. Sylvain's gambit works, causing the barriers to be broken. I gained 5 Umbral Steel from that monster.
Ingrid takes down its first batch of life force, making her grow in dexterity, speed, and resistance.
Linardt heals Caspar with Physic, growing in luck and charm.
The rest of my students advance.
The thief that was left alive advances while Gilbert does the same.
I attack the monster twice after dodging its attack, depleting its life force a second time. I grew in maximum life force and resistance while Petra grew in maximum life force, magic, dexterity, speed, and resistance.
Hilda attacks with her Iron Axe. She scores a critical hit after taking damage. She grows in maximum life force, strength, speed, luck, and charm.
Caspar hits it with his Hand Axe twice after taking damage, defeating it for the final time and growing in strength, magic, and luck. Although, his mercenaries withdrew after that.
The beast growls in pain and defeat before it changes back to Miklan.
"Goddess... The beast is gone, yet Miklan and the Lance remain." Gilbert declared.
"We defeated him, somehow... Let's grab the lance and return to the monastery." Claude ordered.
"Miklan... my brother..." Sylvain struggled to say.
I was praised for all the work I did from my students... even though it was quite the... pyrrhic victory. It increased their motivation, at least.
