May muses 30: Driving with mom

Day 30 of May Muses! The penultimate one! The idea for today is another mirror oneshot of sorts. It's Emma teaching Henry to drive.

"Are you sure you want to learn in the bug?" Emma asked one more time. "Only the pedals in your grandpa's truck are much higher up and…"

"And I'm unlikely to be buying a truck as my first car." Henry reminded her. "I'm not embarrassed. Sure, it's an older car and an…unusual colour, but the bug's fine." Henry told her. Emma bit her lip. Him being embarrassed wasn't what she was worried about. She didn't want her beautiful baby getting bangs and dents from teenaged driving.

"Ok kid." Emma croaked. "Just…nice and slow." Henry nodded. He'd practiced with grandpa anyway. He's only knocked down one poxy post, what harm was he gonna do?

There were a few close calls as they drove around Storybrooke. Emma had to grab the wheel a couple of times to prevent Henry from hitting the curb or more posts. But, despite that, the kid done good. As he pulled up back outside the loft apartment, Emma ruffled his hair.

"Not bad, kid." She praised him. "We made it home in one piece."

"Oh come on, you weren't expecting me to be that bad, were you?" Henry teased her. Emma just laughed.

"I plead the fifth." She told him, getting out the passenger seat. As Henry joined her, she wrapped an arm loosely around his shoulders as they both walked back towards the door.

"So, when's my next lesson?" Henry asked. "Can I go over fifty?"

"No!" Emma quickly told him, putting her key in the door. They might have survived lesson one together, but she wasn't prepared to risk it all in lesson two.
