Differences from fiction

.

The following 3 weeks were spent rediscovering Hogwart and its inhabitants, and it was a mixed bag.

Having original Harry's memories were one thing, but they were colored by his feelings and experiences. He didn't like attention, and didn't like how other people would gawk at him, so he avoided observing other people. I would dare say that I had a clearer view of the world than him. Also, I was only familiar with the movies, and didn't know much about the books aside from what was present in fanfictions or left in comments.

My own appearance wasn't bad, and I certainly had untammable hair. I had startling green attractive eyes. However, the rest of my body needed some work. I also needed some new clothes. Hermione definitly wasn't as cute as Emma Watson, but I believed there was some potential. She was annoying, but tolerable. I was pretty sure she just needed a bit of work, both in looks and attitude. Ron was both as bad as expected, and not. He wasn't a bad guy, but he was still narrow-minded, and jealous. He had his prejudices, like I had my own I guess, but he definitly wasn't as bad as some writers liked to portray him. At least for now.

Neville was also as expected. Calm, nearly silent, but friendly, peaceful. Dean and Seamus were normal classmates and dormmates. Nice guys overall. The twins were jokers that knew when to be serious. Fun people to have around. They also didn't overuse the twin talk, which was a relief. As for their pranks, while they weren't always funny, they avoided being really mean, unless it was some sort of retaliation. That was good to learn because I liked them in my former world.

Since I talked about the twins, let's move to the rest of the quidditch team. Oliver Wood was just the overall friendly quiddicth fanatic. Angelina Johnson was a pureblood witch, but didn't care about blood purity. She was as attractive as her movie counterpart, skilled and determined. She also had a wicked sense of humour, so it was no wonder she got attracted to the twins. They too were driven people, in their efforts to make a successful joke shop in the future. She basically is the vice-captain of the team. To Harry, she was just a friendly teammate and housemate.

Alicia Spinnet was the one who was more concerned and helpful with him, second only to the twins. She was charming, with straight shoulder-lenght honey blond hairs and almond brown eyes. Unlike Angelina who was fit, she was more on the thick side, a little bustier than Angelina. Despite being a pure blood, she was against pureblood supremacy and not afraid to say it. Katie was a half-blood, the kindest of the chasers, and possibly one of the kindest people in the whole Griffindor house. Despite being only 1 year older and having started on the quidditch team at the same time as Harry, she wasn't as close to him as Alicia. She was very similar in appearance to her movie counterpart, a cute brunette with dark brown eyes.

As for the other notable housemates. The strawberry blond haired blue eyed Lavender and the black haired brown eyed Parvati were cute, but still only 12 to 13 years old, with room to grow. And they were annoyingly girly at times, but thankfully friendly. They tended to be indiscrete and a too curious, and were massive gossipers. They were both pure-blood, but against blood discrimination. Fay Dumbar was the last girl from his year in Griffindor. She was plain and even more quiet than Neville, so you could easily forget her. Until there was a quiddicth match. She was a big fan of the sport, and could be quite vivacious while supporting the team.

In my year, there were 40 people, and that was one of the smallest number to be sorted in a while. 9 in griffindor and slytherin, 11 in ravenclaw and hufflepuff. I think the average used to be about 55 people. Many muggle-born families were killed, and quite a bit of half-bloods and pureblood as well. The time period when Harry was conceived and born was also one where there had been the most deaths. There were only 5 more people in the year bellow. As all wars were followed by a boom in births, I expected around 60 little firsties in September.

Back to my year mates, there were 2 people that were often portrayed in fanfictions despite the source material never having given much infos about them, both in appearance and demeanor. Daphne Greengrass and Tracey Davis. Daphne was an attractive blond with almond amber eyes, but not the stunningly beautiful girl fanfiction author liked to depict her. There were prettier girls than her. Tracey Davis was average, with dark brown hairs and hooded dark blue eyes that gave her more charm. These 2 friends were rather discreet, not doing anything to attract attention to them, yet not being ignored or forgotten

Millicent Bullstrode truly was an unattractive large girl for a 12-13yo. And she had the unpleasant demeanor to match her looks. Pansy Parkinson was a bit of a mixed bag. She could be called cute if not for her excessively upturned nose, the reason original Harry called her pug faced. Her slightly square face and sharp features didn't help with that impression. That didn't make her an ugly girl. Personality wise, she was a bit dumb, and a bitch. She liked to embarrass or make fun of others. She seemed to care about social status more than blood status, and usually didn't target other concerning the later unless Draco was nearby.

Draco Malfoy was a spoiled and pretentious braggard. At least he had decent skills in magic in general, definitly in the upper half, but not near the top. I also pitied him, because his opinion on blood purity and muggleborns. I could feel that he was just paroting and emulating someone he admired, that person being his father. I felt a little sorry for him, because I was going to cause his father demise. Blaize Zabini was the same as his movie counterpart: proud pureblood, vain, arrogant, looking down on most people. Thankfully, he prefered to ignore and dismiss those he though as his 'lessers'.

Theodore Nott was probably the most dangerous slytherin of my year, because unlike Draco, he was more discreet and cautious. His dislike of those without proper lineage seemed stronger judging by the look in his eyes, but he was much more restrained in expressing his views. When in company of Draco as he bragged or insulted someone, he stayed in the background. If Draco was the visible enemy, Theodore was the invisible one, the real cunning slytherin. Vincent Crabble and Gregory Goyle were similar to how they were usually depicted, but not as dumb. I would say that they were on the slow and indecisive side.

In Hufflepuff, the first person I was interested in was of course Susan Bones. Auburn hairs, round dark brown eyes, a little chubby, not bad looking but and not particulary attractive either. She was barely entering her teenage period, so she had time to bloom, and maybe become like her fanfics portrayals. She was kind and patient, something I guessed helped her becoming a friendly aquitance to Hermione this year. She was a half-blood, and gave him the benefit of doubt with the Heir of Slytherin problem, which was a big plus in my book.

Her friend, Hanna Abbot, was a cute, with dirty blond with dowturned blue eyes. She was a half-blood, a bit naive (for her age) and easily led by the crowd. Megan Jones was an average brunette with soft features giving her a natural kind look. She shy and pleasant all around. Sally-Anne Perks, a character that disappeared somewhere in the middle of the story in canon, was a short, thin and mousy looking girl with chocolate hairs and eyes. She was a muggleborn, quiet, and seemed to be struggling in class.

Then there were 2 others characters barely seen or mentioned, even in fanfictions. Lilith Moon was a pleasant surprise. She was pale, had burgundy hairs, and heterochromia. Her left eye was pale blue and the right pale green. She was charming, and would grow more attractive. Despite being a hufflepuff, she was more of a lone wolf, and reminded me of Linda in Halo. Sophie Roper was a cute black haired girl with brown eyes and freckles, shy and quiet but still friendly.

I didn't pay much attention to the guys. Ernie McMillan and Justin Flinch-Fletchey were nice guys in my book, if a bit too naives. Wayne Hopkins, Oliver Rivers and Roger Malone weren't as pleasant. They were more prejudicied toward the other houses, and wary of me ever since the dueling incindent. They were among the fearmongers at that time, and noone of them apologised for it. Among the badgers, they were the most likely to retaliate if they were or felt wronged.

Onto Ravenclaw. Nothing needs to be said about Padma Patil, being as cute as her sister, more academics oriented. Aside from her, all girls from ravenclaw in Harry's year were barely seen in the movies, and probably the books as well. There were very few fanfictions where either of these girls made more than a minor appearance.

Lisa Turpin, was an average girl with dark brown hairs and light brown eyes, overall decent looking. Sue Li was an average looking chinese girl, short and thin. Both were quiet and prefered each other's company, talking only when talked to, with short answers. Alana Runcorn was like Sophie Roper, someone I didn't remember being mentioned in either the books or the movies. She had mid-length curly blond hairs and dark green eyes, and a haughty yet cordial attitude. Most likely a proud pureblood, but neutral on the issue of blood purity.

Morag Macdougal was a tall and robust girl for her age, but still smaller than Millicent. She had decent looks, wavy honey blond hairs and black eyes, with the scotish accent. She was a pureblood, friendly and blunt, with a bit of temper too. Mandy Brocklehurst was a half-blood with curly brown hairs, blue eyes and freckles. Overall, she was bellow average in looks. She was the friendliest ravenclaw of the year, and one of the few who didn't believe Harry was the Heir of Slytherin. She still treated him like normal. I intended to properly befriend her in 3rd year for that.

For the guys, the ones I got a favorable impression from, were Terry Boot, Micheal Cormer and Anthony Goldstein. Especially the later. While the formers were cordial, the later was more good-natured, and the bravest of the 3. These 3 got along well with each others. Kevin Entwhistle and Stephen Cornfoot were the ravenclaw counterparts to Wayne Hopkins, Oliver Rivers and Roger Malone in attitude, and didn't even get along that well with each other. They were to be avoided in the future.

The staff had similarities with their movie counterparts, both in looks and personalities. I also got a good look at the professors of astronomy, runes, aritmancy and muggle studies. These 4 teachers were barely seen or mentioned in the movies. Aurora Sinestra was a beautiful black woman in her 20s, and her robes didn't hide the fact that she had a shapely rear. She was number one in my teacher-students fantasies. Bathsheda Babblings and Septima Vector were older, in their 40s. Babblings had short curly brown hairs and blue eyes, overall below average looks. Vector had long straight black hairs and blue eyes, charming and stern looking. Charity Burbage was in her 50s, and wasn't attractive, though she her demeanor was pleasant. The other 3 were more distant in their interactions with the students.

That was just my initial assessment for the time being. I was still new to everything, I lacked experience and couldn't rely completly on original Harry's memories. I would get to know of all them better during the following year. Especially some of the upper years girls I noticed. The girls from my year needed to mature first before things could get really interesting with them. The 3rd year would be used to plant the seeds, the real fun would start in 4th year.

AN: Just because I published 3 chapters in 2 days, don't think that it'll always be like this. The start is the easiest part. I aim for 2 chapters per week, and write about 2000 words per chapter. For now. You'll be lucky if you get more.
