So, anyway. Today's May Muses, which contains season 6 finale spoilers! Ok, so I'm not anti-Hook, however, I'm just not a big shipper at all outside of Snowing. So this is my take on the happy beginning. If you're a hardcore CS shipper, this might not be for you then haha.
It was exactly what they had all been dreaming of. A time where they could all live under one room comfortably. Snow and Charming had found a beautiful cottage further out in Storybrooke that came complete with a couple of acres of land. The cottage itself had two storeys and was large enough to give everyone in the family an adequate amount of space. Emma didn't feel like her new home was the right place for her anyway. It had too many memories of her time as the Dark One. A time she would definitely rather forget. Plus, this is what they'd all been wanting for just about thirty years, to be together. Emma had spent so much of her childhood wanting to have a family. To have parents who would ask her how her day was, to care about what she said. Sure, her family came to her in a more unusual way than most, but to Emma, that just made them all the more special. There had been plenty of hardships, and Emma was sure in the future there would be more to come. But if there was anything she had learned since being handed an unlikely destiny, it was that life was precious. Each day was special, and it was important to make the most of every moment. That's what she intended to do. Whether it be learning how to cook with her mom, finding out how to herd sheep with her dad, Henry energetically reciting another section from the storybook to her, or, playing peek-a-boo with her baby bro. Whatever she did with the people she loved most, Emma intended to enjoy it all.
Charming cut his hours at the station. He didn't give it up completely. He would tell Emma that it was because the job kept him on his toes, but in reality, he would miss the quality time with her too much. Emma took over as lead sheriff, with the dwarves coming in as seven officers to help out since there weren't many diamonds to mine in Storybrooke. When Charming wasn't at the station, he was kept just as busy creating his new farm on the land they had. It filled him with such joy to be able to share his passion and his lifestyle with Neal. Well, not just Neal. A surprise had shown up at the shelter. A four legged surprised with floppy ears and a brown coat. Yes, as soon as Charming got word that Wilby was in Storybrooke, he brought him straight home, where he belonged.
Snow took back up her position at the elementary school. She got offered a more senior post, given her royal status, but she'd had her fill of leading. All Snow had ever wanted was some normality. It's what had kept her going during her time on the run. The hope that, one day, life might slow down a bit and she might be able to enjoy it. Here was her chance, and she wasn't giving it up. Yes, now that Henry was in high school, she missed spending that time with her grandson, but at the same time, it was beautiful seeing him grow into such a lovely young man. She had a brand new set of fourth graders who were all eager to learn. Then, at the end of the day, no longer was she Mary Margaret returning home to an empty apartment and some soppy romcom. No, she was Snow White. She would be going home to a house filled with people, laughter and love. She couldn't imagine anything better than that.
Henry worked out a way that he was able to split his time equally between his two families. He'd grown up so lonely. The only person in a whole town to ever age, the only person to be willing to believe the truth that they were cursed. His belief had paid off, big time. Now he had more family members than he could possibly count (no, really). He enjoyed going back to the house he grew up in and seeing his mom there happy and fully on the side of good. He even had a new aunt, and an adorable baby cousin. When he had the chance, he would pop down to his other grandpa and Belle and spend some time with them and baby Gideon. It was weird seeing him as a baby, considering everything that went on, but he was happy for them. They deserved a second chance. He just hoped his grandpa didn't mess it up. Henry spent most of his time at the new farmhouse. He might not be the Author anymore, not now that his story was finished, but that didn't mean he couldn't enjoy re-reading his favourite parts. Or share them with his uncle Neal. He also enjoyed his grandpa teaching him how to farm. He told Henry that he was a natural, which made him feel so proud. He truly was honoured to have a part of them, the greatest heroes of all, running through his veins. He couldn't imagine a luckier boy in the world.
Yes, things couldn't get much better for the Charmings (as their new welcome mat declared them proudly). They'd fought hard to get to where they were now, but it was worth every single struggle. Now every day brought them closer together. Every day gave them new reasons to love each other. Every day they were just that little more grateful for all that they had. Just that little bit more grateful for their happy beginning.
