Through the portal- part 3
Heather asked for a oneshot of a third and final instalment following on from Ch2686 "Through the portal- part 2" where Snowing and Henry have the conversation with Emma about not taking care of herself.
After a couple of days, once Snow and Charming were sure Emma had recovered, they decided it was time to have the conversation with her. It was important to them that Emma understood that being part of a family didn't mean acting like this. Life wasn't about sacrificing herself for them.
"How's the head Em?" Charming asked her. Emma shrugged.
"I did say it was better about two days ago." She reminded him. "Can I take the rag off it now? I think the swelling is down as much as it's going to be."
"No." Her parents said together. Emma sighed. They weren't going to let this up easily.
"Emma…we appreciate that you helped us, especially Neal, but please, never do that again." Charming asked her. "Particularly the whole not telling us part. What if we got into a fight? We wouldn't have known you were vulnerable."
"Exactly." Emma defended herself. Didn't they realise that was the whole point in not telling them? So they didn't have to worry about her?
"What if that had meant Henry getting hurt?" Snow pointed out. Emma bit her lip. That did put a bit of a whole in her theory.
"He wouldn't have." Emma said quickly, but she knew she couldn't prove that.
"Or Neal." Henry added, appearing from the tent. Emma sighed.
"You're meant to be asleep." She gently told him off.
"I knew grandma and grandpa would start to tell you off when they thought I was." He explained. Emma sighed. She was outnumbered.
"Alright." She grumbled. "I'll be careful and think ahead more. Sorted?"
"Not exactly." Snow said, knowing her daughter had planned loopholes. "But it's a start." Emma restrained herself from rolling her eyes. It was still hard for her sometimes, negotiating the rules of having a family, but at least she knew she was loved.
