Hours earlier in the hospital.

Jamie's uninjured hand engulfed her's, Eddie's heart longed for this feeling. Her eyes shifted to his bandage wrapped arm. "Desk duty doesn't fit you." Jamie laughed at her comment.

"Yeah, I think that's why I never finished law school," He chuckled.

"I still can't believe you went to law school," Eddie said with a great deal of shock.

"Yeah." Jamie sighed, taking his eyes off their inner locked hands, meeting her eyes. "My mom, she wanted me to go into law, so after two years at Columbia I went to Harvard." Jamie thought, smiling at the memories. "She was there when I graduated." Eddie smiled. "I uh, we lost her three months later to cancer."

A few knocks at the door right before she could give her response, they let go of each other's hands, Eddie took a few steps back. "Officer Reagan." The nurse greeted, "I have your release papers and your medication instructions."

"Oh okay, thank you." The nurse handed Jamie his paperwork.

"Your bandages need to be changed every six hours and always go to bed with fresh bandages regardless of the time you last changed them. You won't be able to take a shower for two weeks, you'll have to wash up and avoid getting water on your burns or the pain will be significant." Jamie nodded understanding. "Will you have someone with you when you return home tonight? you won't be able to properly change them on your own."

"Uh, I won't be alone," Jamie assured.

"Great, your medication is right here, you're not permitted to return to work for at least a couple days, and when you do it's recommended that you do something low impact… other than that, you're free to go, just take it easy, no sudden movements with your left arm until the burns begin to heal." The nurse said her goodbyes.

"You and Witten still have an hour left on tour?" Jamie reminded.

"Yeah." She nodded. "Are you sure you'll be okay?"

"I will, I'll see you after your tour." Her reassuring smile. When she had finally left, Jamie laid back, 'What's this feeling.' He thought to himself, he hadn't felt this feeling in a long time.

"You're all set, Reagan?" Vinny entered, closing the door behind him.

"Yeah," Jamie said blandly.

"Everything good?" Vinny took a seat on the edge of Jamie's hospital bed. The glare in Jamie's eyes told Vinny this was not going to be good.

"I think it's very strange you have connections all throughout the department." Vinny shrugged at his words. "And they all happened to be female."

"Listen, Rebecca and I are just friends," Vinny explained, Jamie didn't find it convincing.

"She's beautiful, smart and you guys just so happen to be 'friends'... not to mention she works in TARU, hmm kay." Jamie definitely wasn't buying his BS.

"Well she gave us his current location, shall we go?" Vinny drove to the coordinates on the map, but with each turn, the neighborhood became more and more familiar. "Jamie…" Vinny's tone flipped. "He's outside of Eddie's apartment."

"How do you know." Jamie gulped.

"Remember I walked her home the other day! it says he's in the gray sedan ahead." Vinny saw the pissed off look in Jamie's eye. "Jamie, listen… don't do anything you'll regret." Jamie glanced at him with cold eyes. "I'm serious we're here to talk." Jamie sighed agreeing.

12:00 AM; PRESENT TIME.

"Habits don't die do they?" Jamie placed his right arm on the roof of the car, peeking into the vehicle first time to his recollection of seeing Noble face to face, Jamie could tell his sudden appearance startled him.

"I don't think they do," Vinny answered Jamie's question standing on the passenger side of the car also peeking into the vehicle

"May I help you, officer." Noble gritted his teeth, Noble made cold blank eye contact with Jamie. Jamie was shy about it either, he stared him down.

"Yes, why are you sitting out here," Vinny asked. Noble broken eye contact, his eyes landing on Vinny.

"Free country." Noble spat.

"This is the second time I've seen you sitting in your car like a creep," Vinny replied back. "You were outside the 12th precinct in Manhattan and you so happen to be way out here in east village Brooklyn... A city with nine million people I find that unconvincing, what do you think?"

"I don't care what you or officer Reagan, thinks." Jamie and Vinny glanced at each other.

"You know officer Reagan?" Vinny peered towards his partner.

"Why wouldn't I know who the police commissioner's son is."

"Right." Jamie laughed. "Let's get something straight, you're a coward, you always have been since our freshman year of college, six years you've been in the shadows watching me and tormenting Eddie. That shit stops now." Noble had a crazy look in his eye.

"You better get away from me." Noble threatened.

"Or what." Jamie and Vinny replied to his empty threat at the same time.

"You wanna find out?" Noble replied back, unbuckling his seatbelt.

"You get out of the car and you're going to Jail." Vinny threatened.

"Hmm, big guys with a badge." Noble gritted, sitting back into his seat. "You don't want to get hurt, you only have one arm left."

"Come near Eddie again and you won't like what happens, you've never been able to make a direct shot at me, so there's mine." Jamie walked off, Vinny followed shortly after.

"That guy is a nut." Vinny chuckled in disbelief, starting the car. He looked over at Jamie when a response went unheard. "Jamie?" his eyes were blank with what looked like anger.

"I hate him." Jamie nearly began trembling, he was that mad.

"He's just trying to get inside of your head-"

"It's too late for that." Jamie interrupted pissed off.

"Don't let him provoke you." Vinny expressed. After a few breaths call me down Jamie nodded agreeing.

"TARU will be here shortly to check her place," Jamie added.

"That's good… think you should be getting you home." Jamie rolled his eyes.

"You mean to my dad's?" The two drove about half an hour to Bay Ridge, pulling in front of Jamie's childhood home. "Thanks for having my back partner."

"Always," Vinny replied.

"I won't be working tomorrow, doctor's orders, she said I can come back in a few days and when I do desk duty."

"Can't say I'll miss working with you." Vinny joked.

"Right," Jamie laughed, "Get home safe Vin." When Jamie had not even entered when his father opened the door.

"Oh, Hey-"

"Where have you been." Frank voiced.

"I left the hospital," Jamie replied walking past his father.

"An hour ago," Frank replied, closing the door.

"Okay," Jamie decided to come clean. "I went to go see someone." Frank sighed disappointedly.

"Don't tell me you went to go see Noble Sanfino." His father read his demeanor like a book. Jamie's silence confirmed his suspicions. "What were you thinking!" Frank snapped.

"I was thinking I'll go see the bastard that ruined so much for me and just 24 hours ago I didn't even know he existed!" Jamie replied frustrated. Frank sighed, pointing to the bags that sat beside the couch. "Eddie's here already?"

"She got here ten minutes ago, said she was going to take a shower." Frank sat on the couch in the living room, waiting for Jamie to do the same before continuing.

"I understand your frustration and anger, Jamie but you have to understand, the Sanfino's are extremely dangerous."

"I know but I had to say something, I'm pissed." Frank watched his son express his emotions, As of lately, Frank hadn't seen Jamie express much of anything. "That guy dad… He's a coward." Jamie fumed.

"He is." Frank completely agreed, "We're working on getting him, but you should just take it easy." Jamie looked at his father unconvincingly, "I mean it." Frank's tone showed he was not messing around.

"I will… take it easy." Jamie got up from the couch. "I'm uh go-" Frank nodded, giving him the go-ahead. When Jamie reached the top of the steps he'd seen his room door was open, Jamie honestly hadn't been back upstairs at his father's home since he moved out in college.

"Hey," Jamie spoke, startlingly her..

"Oh I'm sorry," She jumped up grabbing her bag filled with clothes.

"No, you're good, sit." She smiled slightly at his words and took a seat back at his desk chair. "How was the end of tour."

"It went by fast, after I got off officers escorted me back to my apartment where I got clothes and came here." Jamie nodded, He tried not to stare hard at her, she just looked so different out of uniform, just beautiful. "Your dad was looking for you, he said you were released from the hospital and you were MIA."

"Oh." He sat on the edge of the bed.

"Where were you?" She tried not to sound too pushy but she needed to know.

"Vinny and I had an errand." Jamie blew it off.

"That's all?" She wondered,

"That's all." He replied, short moments of silence followed. Eddie looked all around the room, nothing had changed.

"Do you remember the last time we were in here?" Jamie shook his head no. "It was the time I got my period and I asked you to go to the store for tampons." Jamie's eyes widened remembering.

"I remember. That was the summer after we graduated high school felt like forever ago." Eddie agreed.

"It was also the night I told you about Noble," His locked eyes with her. "Even though I never told you his name or anything else… Jamie. I really want to apologize about that sincerely, I really hurt you when I thought I was protecting you, but in reality, I ended up hurting you and even myself."

"I-" Jamie began.

"Please just let me finish… if I don't say it now I won't be able too." He nodded, letting her speak. "I'm sorry I wasn't there for you when you lost your mom or Joe." Eddie choked up at the mention of Joe's name. "I know he was a best friend to you and you must've felt alone." Jamie broke eye contact thinking about those words. "I can't change the past but I want to start over with you as friends, you really are my best friend Jamie." She wiped away the tears threatening to fall from her eyes.

"Can I-" She nodded. "Listen I'm upset you didn't tell me about Noble and what he was doing to you," Eddie wiped her tears again. "As your boyfriend, I wanted to protect you, you know? but I understand why you did what you did in a-way. You were afraid and young, people can Inflict pain and suffering on others which creates fear, so don't cry or be upset, because we're in this together."

"I'll try not to anymore." She laughed. "Jamie… why did you become NYPD?" She just bluntly asked, she's wondered for days.

"That's a question I wanted to ask you." Jamie laughed. "My mom never wanted me to join the NYPD, she wanted me to go into law and so I did but then Joe would call me up at school telling me about the job and how it's something different every day whether it was good or bad but with each experience, it was worth it… I began to question if this was the line of work for me you know?" She nodded deeply interested. "I told him that I wanted something different, I didn't know if it was joining the NYPD or something else but I knew it wasn't law, so he actually encouraged me to pursue law enforcement after graduation."

"That's amazing." Her eyes welled with tears.

"What about you? Why are you NYPD? when we were together in high school you never showed any interest in law enforcement."

"Want an honest answer?" Jamie nodded. "it's because of your family and my dad." He titled his head a bit, not understanding. "I really wanted to do something right you know? make amends, for my family's sins on society. My dad has already served six years on his sentence; he has about a little less than eight to go." Jamie was blown away. "So I dunno I feel like when I'm in the uniform I'm not the scared girl I think I am. I want to save someone that is going through what I am."

"That's an admirable ambition as any and I don't think you're a scared girl, it takes a lot to wear the uniform on top of being a woman as well." Jamie smiled.

"Thank you, you always know how to make a girl feel." he felt as if they were pretty comfortable in their conversation and just went for it. "Can I ask you something?"

"Shoot." She replied.

"You would tell me if Noble has done anything to you right?" Eddie's expression became serious.

"Of course." She responded.

"Has he... done anything to you?" Jamie couldn't tell what his reaction would be if the answer was what he hadn't hoped for.

"No, Noble has never put his hands on me in any un-wanting way," Eddie answered truthfully and a huge relief shot through his body. "He's just so obsessed with you Jamie... I would go out for coffee and other study dates with guys in college, it was never anything serious but Noble knew and didn't say a word but for some reason, he can't stand me being with you." Eddies expressed.

"Yeah," Jamie answered in deep thought.

"I think you should wash up, when you're done I'll help change your bandages." Jamie looked up as if he was going to protest. "Don't argue Reagan! you need help."

"Okay!" Jamie shyly responded. "I'll be back." Jamie left the room heading for the bathroom.

When all signs showed he was out of sight Eddie's eyes wandered around his childhood room that brought back many memories for her. She noticed a few new things added to the room, for one there was a photo she had never seen; Jamie's mother, father and siblings present in the graduation photo, placed beside it, photo's of Jamie's high school baseball team at the state championship game and finally on the other side of the desk a photo of Jamie and his childhood best friend Mason, Eddie remembers Mason vaguely, she met him once in their high school days, Jamie and Mason were around five or six years old smiling with their two front baby teeth missing. She remembers the hard time Jamie went through with the loss of Mason Eddie can tell he has never recovered from and on top of that her leaving, his mother's death, and Joe's death.

"Hey." Frank stood at the door frame startling her.

"Commissioner." She stood up.

"Eddie please, you knew me long before I was the police commissioner." Frank gestured for her to retake her seat.

"Jamie is in the bathroom?"

"Yeah, I thought I'd help change his bandages," Eddie responded she felt so nervous around him she assumed it was because Frank is now her boss.

"That's sweet of you, we all missed having you around, glad your back," Frank spoke sweetly.

"Thank you so much, you have always made me feel like I belong, thank you for allowing me to stay with you during this whole thing."

"Our home is yours. I have an early day in the morning, Erin's old room is available for you." Eddie nodded, she heard his footsteps disappear down the hall. The smile on her face was wide, she hasn't smiled like this in years, her smile slightly faded noticing a familiar birthday card on his desk, she opened the card and a small piece of paper fell out. When she had gone to retrieve the piece of paper, she noticed a date on the back with what looked like her handwriting. It was a polaroid photograph of her and Jamie together write on the back read;

'Happy birthday, Jamie 6-8-2000. Love, Eddie'

Staring at the photo, she couldn't believe how young they looked. "Jamie really kept the card I gave him for his 18th birthday six years ago.' She thought.

"Hey Eddie," Jamie called from down the hallway. She quickly placed the photo back inside the card placing it back where she found it.

"Yeah, what's up?" She replied as he walked into the drying his slightly wet hair with a towel.

"Did I- oh never mind, it's right here." Jamie sat on the edge of the bed, "Ready?" She tilted her head confused. He held up the bandages.

"Oh right." She felt embarrassed. Jamie handed her the bandages and began removing his old bandages. Jamie groaned as he removed them, the pink and redness to his skin more vibrant the further he unwrapped them.

"You okay?" He nodded but it was clear he was in a great deal of pain, with the old bandages off Jamie applied the ointment. Eddie began wrapping his arm from the shoulder down. "So do you still talk to anyone from high school?" She thought to start a conversation to get his mind off the pain and her mind how amazing his body is without a shirt

"Uh," Jamie thought, "I still stay in contact with Liam."

"Really? How is he doing?"

"Good, he's a dad, he's really happy," Jamie replied.

"I'm happy for him."

"Me too," Jamie replied. "Ahh." The pain shot through his body as she finished the wrapping.

"My bad."

"It's good," Jamie mumbled.

"So I noticed something," Jamie's eyes landed on her. She grabbed the card from the table, pulling the polaroid photograph from the card showing him.

"You gave me this for my 18th." Jamie stared at the photo.

"Look at how young we looked!" She pointed out. "I loved your hair then."

"Yeah." Jamie smiled at the memory. "I just couldn't find myself to throw anything that you gave me out, I was… completely crazy about you." His words had her emotions flooded, she went for it and kissed him, the feeling of her lips meeting his was amazing, moments later she broke the kiss meeting his eyes.

"I-" Eddie stood up. Jamie had absolutely no words, "I should go, early tour goodnight."

"Wait-" He voiced, she dashed out of the room. Jamie sat there his heart racing, definitely something unexpected.

"Noble! my boy." A man greeted, kissing Noble on the forehead.

"Hey, Uncle Phil." Noble greeted his hands in his pockets.

"What brings you here?"

"Can I talk to you in private?" Phil looked around the table at occupations, cueing for them to leave the two. When the two were finally alone Phil focused his attention on his nephew.

"What's going on?" Phil's tone was everything but pleasant.

"I'm um, in a pickle," Noble spoke lightly.

"How so?" Phil leaned forward in his seat. Noble gulped before continuing.

"Edit is being harassed." Phil interlocked his fingers on the table. "There's this guy-"

"The hell Noble?" Phil shouted in anger, "You mean to tell me that sweet little Edit is being harassed... what are you doing about it! huh? If you aren't doing a damn thing I swear to god kid I'll-"

"That's the thing Uncle! he's a cop like her, if he wasn't I would have already had him dealt with." Phil gritted his teeth.

"If her father Armin knew this shit was going on…"

"I know! she says he's completely unreasonable and she can't do anything because he's her superior." Noble's lie was so convincing he began to believe it himself.

"And what do you think should be done with this guy?"

"Take him out," Phil raised his eyebrows. "And you're right Amrin Janko has done a lot of dirt for us-"

"Shut up." Phil barked.

"I'm sorry," Noble replied nervously.

"First I want to speak with Edit-"

"She's actually too afraid." Noble interrupted panicking. "She is afraid and doesn't know that I told you so if we do something to the guy she'd know and she is NYPD, don't want to risk it." Noble expressed.

"You're right, we'll get him in time.." Noble felt relieved. "Give Bobby the details in this guy." Nobble nodded.

"Thank you, Uncle." Walking away his sinister smile couldn't be contained any longer.
