It was clear to Charming that some progress had been made between Emma and Snow in their new mother/daughter relationship since they'd gone to the Enchanted Forest. Emma seemed less edgy around Snow. Sure, still not exactly open, but she looked less like she was going to run away at any given moment. He couldn't say Emma was treating him the same.

Even before they left, in the short time he had known Emma was his daughter, Charming knew he had ground to make up that Snow didn't. Not much, but still, there was a clear difference. Snow had been Emma's roommate for several months before the curse broke. They had a chance to get to know each other as friends first. Sure, in some ways that created more problems. But right now it seemed to have more benefits. Charming just didn't know what to do. He learned over the kitchen counter, frowning as he watched Emma reading her book. He just didn't have that connection with her yet. He wracked his brain for something they had in common. Then, it hit him. He grinned to himself. How could he not have thought of it sooner? Of course they had something in common! He moved over to the living room and sat down on the other side of the couch.

"So," He said, trying to be as casual as possible. "You got the egg out I put in, huh?" He commented. Emma looked up from her book, puzzled. "The egg you got from Maleficent. Rumplestiltskin had me put it in her for safekeeping. I'm guessing he knew you'd get it back out again when the time was right." Charming explained.

"Oh." Emma said, understanding. She didn't quite know what to say. "Thanks for the sword." She added. Charming laughed.

"You're welcome." He said, smiling proudly. "You must be a right natural with it to not have become dragon barbeque." He told her. Emma shrugged.

"I was just good at the javelin at school." She explained. Charming understood. She done what he did. She lobbed it at Maleficent.

"Ah, we share similar tactics in a pinch then." He told her. Emma looked surprised. She hadn't known her dad had done the same thing to get the egg in as she had to take it out again.

"Guess there's some genetics floating around there after all." Emma said quietly. Charming's heart skipped a beat. Emma hadn't called either he or Snow mom or dad, but this was a step in the right direction. She had acknowledged a link between them.

"Yeah." Charming said, grinning like the Cheshire Cat. "I guess so."
