I'M BAAACK.

Yes, a much-needed update. What possible reason could I have for the lack of updates/chapters? I don't have one. Writing is both hard and time-consuming. Couple that with a lack of inspiration. It gets hard. Especially when I'm seldom happy with what I write. My OCD and need for perfection in what I write/make gives me constant problems. I look back and agonize over small things. Spelling errors, grammatical inconsistencies, light continuity contradictions all of that weighs on me.

Outside of that, it's the usual stuff. Covid, money, mental health, and all that. To me they are excuses. To others, they are valid reasons. So in the end from my perspective, I have no reasons. But better late than never.

Anyway on with the chapter.

The shock in the room was palpable. The stoic Tanya was busy running her mind on all cylinders. This man was her senior in experience practical and theoretical. As well as a Spec-Ops agent. That alone meant he was her superior. She was a commissioned officer while he was a soldier. The difference being that he was a commando with high-security clearance. Sure, she was well-liked by the brass in Strategic HQ, but this man had to have much more under his belt. Even while sitting at her desk in the barracks she was on guard. This man had an aura that sent danger signals all about her body. Was he a test? A spy? A trap to make her fumble? There were many things running through her mind. All that came to a stop when a rather thick manila folder was placed on her desk. The title of it shocking her once again.

Application

What? He was applying to her regiment? Why? This was a mage company, not infantry or Special Forces. So why was he here? A smooth masculine voice brought her from contemplating further.

"Major Degurechaff, perhaps we should speak in private. Would you accompany me to my quarters?" Romance and sex were obviously the furthest things from his mind. Anyone could tell. His tone was to the point leaving no room for remark. Wordlessly she nodded following along. She did take note of a flirtatious wink he sent to Visha and the furious flush that followed.

The walk was silent. Almost painfully so for the young major. This man was at the top of the food chain. A hero with so many commendations and medals she could never hope to receive. Or any other soldier really. He had been shot, eviscerated, stabbed, bludgeoned, and so much more. The small clinking from his belt seemed like the bell toll of an undertaker. Here to reap her soul. Was he here on behalf of Being X? Was this, admittedly handsome, man a test? The next obstacle to overcome? Her subconscious was in full gear. To the point, she jumped when he closed the door to his quarters.

Haphazardly tossing the helmet on the bed he moved behind the desk. Divesting himself of his cloak and torso armor he sat down. A rather bland skintight bodysuit colored in midnight black pigment remained. Looking up she caught sight of his easygoing grin. His bright blue orbs sparkled with mirth as well as something else. Like he knew something she didn't. All her thoughts dropped to the floor with his next words.

"What did he call himself when you died?" The young woman's posture seized up. Her own mauve speckled orbs widening. Words failed to leave her mouth.

"Should I elaborate?" Oh, he was enjoying this. He had done this song and dance before. They were always so surprised when he knew. Never able to make a comeback in a timely manner.

"I-I-I'm n-not sure-e I know w-wh-what you m-mean…" The poor girl was stuttering more than his beloved first wife. It was simultaneously endearing and disturbing. Meh. He'd seen worse. He'd have his fun.

"I'm sure you remember very well. Please do humor me. What has he been saying again…" He looked at her sweating visage. He would only torture her a little more.

"Deus Lo Vult… How pretentious." The gall of some people. Arrogance sure did run deep for some of them. Especially this one it seemed.

The reincarnated woman/man was visibly disturbed by this point. She was nearly sure this man was in the very least affiliated with Being X. Antagonistic or not she was unsure. The disdain of the Major's words did resonate with her. She understood the distaste for that devil. The man gave a tired sigh that caught her attention.

"I'm still not enti…"

"I know very well that a being calling itself god cursed you." Better to rip off that bandage now. Before things got too complicated. Indeed, it did shut the child-like major. Now he could continue.

"The being you encountered is a 'god' if you will. Well, more of an angel that got a bit too arrogant." Trailing off he waited to see her reaction. Silently she beckoned him to continue. "You were the unfortunate victim of someone who got far too arrogant in his power. The same as me."

Tanya was furiously trying to decipher what had been said. She had been cursed by a being calling himself God, this she knew. But the spec-ops officer in front of her told her that Being X was actually an angel! That in itself made more sense than him being a god. Still, her hyper-rational mind said this was insane. She was caught up in some celestial dick-measuring contest!? What next this man in front of her was an angel too.

"To answer your question. No. I am not an angel or god. The best term for me would be Inquisitor. I am an immortal soul in a mortal body." Letting that sink in for a moment he pushed on. "I made a deal with The Creator. You can call it the True Kami, Yahweh, Supreme God, or any combination of terms. In the easiest term, it is the creator of everything. The deal was more of a contract with simple terms. In return for my services, I am gifted with the ability to reincarnate after my mortal body dies, I am to hunt anyone who disrupts the balance of order and chaos, and I can pass on to the Pure Land anytime I so please."

Tanya was thrown completely for a loop. This man had given her answers to some questions while dropping a mountain of others on those. Taking a few calming breathes she started to think. This man was similar to her previous life. He worked for the higher-ups by cutting troublemakers loose. He did dirty work for executives. Far more relatable. She could just barely start to comprehend.

"Ms. Degurechaff you are correct in your assessment. The Creator is similar to the CEO or even Founder of infinite realities. I am one of many who scour these branches to eliminate any problems. In the end, The Creator is sympathetic to what has happened to you, so I have been instructed to extend an offer. You have two choices. Live out this life while I deal with your 'Being X' problem and when you die you will enter the Cycle of Reincarnation. The other is I can send you there now with this current body continuing with a copy of your soul."

This was an appealing offer. She would be free of this hell and give a middle finger to Being X. While she wasn't religious in any way, she would make sense of this. Well as good as anyone in her position could. This was quite a lot of information to take in. Only one thing really got her attention.

"What do you mean copy?" It was hard to take the pre-teen seriously, but he persevered.

"It is exactly that. A copy. An artificial soul. Nothing more than a flash cloned soul given a body. Obviously, any and all memory of this conversation will be erased. We will also remove memories of 'Being X' for safety." He watched her contemplate. This was a heavy decision. Young woman or middle-aged man it mattered not. This was a life-changing choice. Literally.

"One last question…" This would be the deal-breaker for her. The non-negotiable term of their deal.

"Yes." This was serious talk so he would act the part. He was merely the middleman in this transaction.

"What of Being X?" In all truth, she had an idea. She just wanted confirmation. Nothing more nothing less.

"He will either be stripped of divinity and sentenced to eternity in the Cycle of Reincarnation. That is the lightest possible sentence. The other is he will be erased from existence. The book, scroll, tapestry, or whatever you believe it to be that contains the records of absolutely everything will be cleansed of his presence. He will be nothing. No memory of him or his actions will exist. His very being will be pulled from reality and deleted." It was a harsh judgment. Nothing of a being with this sentence existed afterward. Not even a memory. You would be erased from all of existence. Every place in the multiverse you would have been is cleared of you. There was no coming back from that.

The young Degurechaff was only mildly surprised. She imagined death or something akin to that. Even she would admit that was harsh but well deserved. Still, it cemented her verdict.

She had her ticket out of this hell.

"This is Major Naruto von Wirbel. He will be joining the 203rd Mage Battalion as a strategist and coordinator for our operations. He will also be assisting in our covert operations as well as strategic targets. Lastly, he will train everyone here in CQC and other ground-based tactics." The diminutive mage relayed. The man had an impressive resume and the textbook definition of a quiet professional. He was both a great asset along with an exemplary superior officer/pseudo-teacher for her. The blond man had years of experience as both a lone commando as well as a small unit operator.

"It is exactly as Major Degurechaff says. So, listen up maggots! I am your superior officer. She may be your commanding officer, but I am your new trainer. I will be taking some of you for extra re-education outside of what is already planned. When I'm done with you every. Last. One. Of. You. WILL be worth 100 soldiers. You WILL be THE Most ELITE unit in this army. You will be in pain. You will be crying. You will be cursing my very existence. But you will be the best of the best. AM I UNDERSTOOD!" He was going to put these soldiers through hell. They were going to graduate from soldiers to warriors. That was the promise of a lifetime.

"SIR YES SIR!" They could already feel the impending doom that their new commander had in mind. This would hurt. A lot. If that grin with far too many teeth had anything to say this would suck. Immensely.

"Welcome to Hell Month." He was going to enjoy this life. He could feel it in his bones.

There yall go. A full update. I will get hate. I will get flamed. People will complain. And the world will keep spinning. I ask you to try and keep it civil in the reviews and give CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. I have been seeing so much negativity in the community recently. Far more than usual. I don't care if you aim it at me. I will laugh at your hate. It will feed me.

But other authors can't handle that. They leave. They abandon fics. They self-harm. Some even kill themselves. It's not cool that people in this community do those things. If you want to hate for the sake of hating, fine. Do it with other people who enjoy being miserable. Stop doing it to people who want to escape that in these fics. People want to have fun and read. Let them. Keep your bullshit to yourself.

That's all I have for ya. Not much else to say sooooo...

Yall know my setup by now...

READ, REVIEW, FOLLOW/FAV

And I will see you all in the next Fic
