Teething
Dutchwriter asked for a oneshot of Emma (aged 18) having pains from her wisdom teeth coming through. Snow wonders why she is so grumpy. Then she remembers what her daughter was like when her baby teeth came through. Snow helps her. Something I can very much relate to just now lol.
Snow had never seen Emma turn down food. Never. Not even when they had to be up early (Emma's biggest pet peeve) to travel. She always had some breakfast before they left. Come to think of it, Emma just wasn't herself right now at all. Sure, she was never exactly a little ray of sunshine in the morning, but she was never this grumpy. She seemed to be snapping at everyone, which was most unlike her. Emma's manners were normally impeccable. Snow frowned as she watched Emma sit across from her with an empty plate. Was she sick? She didn't look like she had a temperature. She had been complaining about not sleeping well lately, but surely it wasn't that bad? She was clearly hungry, despite not eating. That was a good sign, if she had an appetite then she wasn't feeling nauseous. She was sitting with her finger in her mouth, chewing on it like a carrot stick. Snow could have kicked herself at that moment as she realised. Of course! She knew all this behaviour from Emma. She'd seen it before, but years ago.
Snow got up from the table and went downstairs to the chilled cave they had underneath the palace. Inside, there were some ice chips. She brought some up in a cloth and handed them to Emma.
"What's that for?" Emma asked her. Snow ignored the snappy tone, she now knew that Emma was in pain.
"Your mouth." Snow answered her. "Or more specifically, the back of it where you're teething. It was ice that helped you when you were younger." Snow explained to her. Emma looked at her, baffled.
"I'm eighteen. I'm not teething. Must be too much sugar or something." Emma reasoned, pushing the cloth filled with ice away. Snow pushed it back.
"As much as I agree with that statement, yes, you are teething. It's your wisdom tooth coming through." Snow explained to her. Now Emma understood. She'd only heard brief mentions of wisdom teeth in a few of her biology lessons. She should really daydream less in the more boring subjects. Snow smiled as Emma brought the cloth up to the back of her cheek and felt the near immediate relief.
"You were by far the worst teether. Ice was the only thing that helped.
"Yeah, that's nice." Emma murmured. She didn't care what her mom said about her at that point, all that mattered was the sweet, sweet relief…and that her precious sugar wasn't her enemy causing her pain. That was a relief on its own.
