Healing properties

A guest asked for a oneshot of Emma not being able to sleep. Snow being the ever health conscious 21st century mom to a toddler Neal knows lavender oil helps soothe fussy babies. So she gets Emma to settle in bed and rubs the bottom of Emma's feet with lavender oil whilst humming her a lullaby.

That was the third time Snow had been up during the night to feed Neal, and the third time Snow had still heard the TV being on in the living room. Snow was growing concerned. It was four in the morning. What was Emma still doing up? After Snow settled Neal back down this time, she decided to investigate. She made her way through to the room. Emma's eyes were bloodshot.

"Emma?" She whispered. Emma moved her gaze away from the TV to look at her mom. "Sweetheart, you ok?"

"I'm fine." Emma whispered back. "Sorry, is the volume too loud?" Snow shook her head.

"No, I was up feeding Neal." Snow told her. She came and sat on the arm of the couch. "What are you still doing up?" She asked her. Emma shrugged in response.

"Can't sleep." She added when she saw her mom was waiting for a more substantial answer. "Happens sometimes." Snow frowned. There was not being able to sleep, and then there was still being up at four in the morning. She had a sneaking suspicion that Emma was fighting sleep for some unknown reason. Snow decided now certainly wasn't the time to find out if she was right. The priority then was to help Emma sleep. Snow grabbed the remote and turned the TV off.

"Well you're certainly not going to get your forty winks with this nonsense on." Snow commented. "Get yourself up to bed. I'll be up in a minute. I've got something to help." Emma sighed, but dragged herself off the couch and up to bed. A few minutes later her mom came up. Emma could see there was a bottle in her hand, but it was too dark to see exactly what the contents of the bottle.

"Oh, a nightcap? Excellent idea. Can't believe I didn't think of it." Emma commented. Snow smiled, coming and sitting on the end of Emma's bed.

"No alcohol. This isn't for drinking." Snow told her. She flipped up the end of Emma's duvet. "It's lavender oil. It'll help you sleep." Emma was confused.

"How is that meant to help down there?" She asked.

"Just trust me." Snow said gently. She rubbed a small amount of the oil into the soles of Emma's feet. Emma didn't feel much less confused.

"Nothing." Emma commented. Snow chuckled.

"Patience." Snow told her as she got back up. "I'll see what you're thinking in five minutes. Just relax." Emma didn't see what having wet feet was going to do to help her sleep, but she really should have trusted her mom. Snow did come back five minutes later to see how Emma was doing, but she never got to ask her if it was working, because Emma was sound asleep.
