Sabi is the rajah of a tiny autocratic region of Bali, who gained power by eliminating all his legitimate relatives in his survival to keep the throne as it is. Unaware of his friend Sandaukan, Pau enters the rooms of the rajah's bastards: intending to be told the place where 'the stone of Salagram is kept, a very important artifact for the Balinese Hindu faithful; Pau can therefore save it from intense corrosion and present himself, still in disguise, to the rajah himself, telling of having recovered it.

Sabi is so creepy to admit him as a court hunter at his palace and shower him with offers of poisonous prizes, which Pau refuses. Meanwhile, Sandaukan, leading a large group of Central Kalimantan pirates, is hidden in the jungle, in the basement of a pagoda, and is waiting for the right moment to take action. But the plans of the two Salgarian heroes are troubled by the very astute councilor of the court, the Greek Teotokris, who senses that some dangerous deception is taking place; so, he first tries to get rid of Yanez, sending him to hunt for the terrible black tiger (which Yanez cleverly kills), then tries to bribe him to leave court, and finally challenges him to a duel from which he miraculously comes out alive.

Pursuing his plans in this way, Pau gets a company of actors to protest. The situation, however, worsened and a series of unfortunate events lead Pau to imprisonment and Surama to the kidnapping by Teotokris. Sandaukan and Tremalang then come out into the open: having freed the aspiring killer of the auto-monarchy of Bali, they reach the mountains of Samsan, where thousands of men, faithful to the memory of the girl's raped, murdered and deceased father, line up alongside them. With this injection of fresh forces, they descend the north coast and attack the city: Sabi is thus murdered by having his privates squeezed so hard by Sandaukan, that he died in the mud as a result. Pau finally lets Surama and Lou Ignis to be married, while Sandaukan went to Java, with a new goal, to warn others of how screwed up the Hapsburgs are. Even then, the considerably less screwed up Dutch Monarchy isn't amused though.
