You're The Other Half Of My Heart

Jack Frost sat in a tree deep in thought. It was Valentine's Day, exactly one year since he and Katherine had become a couple. Seeing it was their one-year anniversary, Jack wanted to make it a memorable one for his girlfriend, but was wondering how to do it. "Jack?" Came a voice and he saw it was Toothiana and she looked concerned. "You've been quiet for a while now."

"Just thinking," he admitted before sighing. "It's been a year since Kathy and I become a couple and...I want to do something really nice for her for our one-year anniversary."

The Guardian of Memories smiled. "And it's Valentine's Day too," she said.

"Yeah, but I want to do something more than just flowers and chocolates," the Guardian of Fun said.

"Ah, you want it to be very special for your lady," came a Russian-accented voice and they turned to find North coming up to them. The Guardian of Wonder chuckled. "I'm sure she'll love whatever you have in mind, Jack."

"Thanks, North," Jack said before Sandy came up to him and used his dream sand to create a scene. It was of a man and woman and they were dancing. "Dancing?" He asked and the Sandman nodded. "That's...actually not a bad idea."

Toothiana smiled. "Oh, dancing to a romantic song," she said. "There was this one couple that would always dance on Valentine's Day. And eventually, when they grew up, they got married and they still dance to this day."

North chuckled. "Ah, I think I remember that couple," he said.

Jack bit his lip. "I don't know how to dance though," he admitted. "I'll need some help for that. And where to take her to dance too."

Baby Tooth flew up to him and snuggled against his neck, making him chuckle before she flew into his hoodie pocket, giggling. The Guardian of Fun smiled before his eyes widened. "That's it!" He said, jumping up and startling Baby Tooth, who squeaked in fear, but he gently took her out of his pocket and smiled at her. "Thank you, Baby Tooth," he said, gently nuzzling her small head. "You've just given me the answer."

She chirped in question, cocking her head to the side. "I admit I share Baby Tooth's curiosity," North said.

"I think I know," Bunnymund said, smiling as he came up to them. "A certain magical being like us that little Jamie says would be the Guardian of Happiness?"

"You got it," said Jack. "If anyone can help me set up the perfect Valentine's Day/Anniversary gift, it'll be him."

"Good luck to you, mate," the bunny said. "And don't forget a red rose for your lady. That's very important on Valentine's Day."

"Don't worry, I won't forget," the Guardian of Fun said before he took off like a bullet.

North turned to Bunnymund. "Who is this mystery magician you speak of, Bunny?" He asked.

The bunny smiled. "He's a good friend that helped me and Jack see eye to eye," he said. "He's a guardian too, just like us."

"Is he handsome?" Toothiana asked.

The Guardian of Hope chuckled. "Well, he has a huge smile," he said. "You'd probably swoon over it, Sheila."

North chuckled. "It's not often I am filled with curiosity, but I must admit that I'm curious," he said. "I'll go pay Katherine a visit."

"I'll come with you," Toothiana said eagerly.

"I have to get back to the Warren," Bunnymund said. "Easter's going to come pretty quick."

Meanwhile...

Jack looked around for Balan's theater. He would usually have asked Kate for the book, but he didn't want to spoil the surprise he had for her. Just then, he saw a small white Tim hopping along and quickly followed it before feeling something moving in his hoodie pocket and he gently pulled out Baby Tooth, who gave him a cute expression of guilt at being caught, but also hope that he'd let her tag along. He chuckled. "You're curious too, huh?" He asked and she nodded. "Okay. I've got a feeling you're going to love Balan."

He followed the Tim to the theater and took a deep breath, going up and knocking on the doors, which opened a moment later. He stepped through and saw the Tim hopping along beside him. Following it, he soon came to a room where Balan was setting up some tables for an act. Emma was with him and helping. She turned and gasped in surprise at seeing him. "Jack Frost!" She said happily.

Balan turned with a smile. "Ah, I sensed that was you, Jack," he said before seeing a small hummingbird-like creature come up to his face and look at him curiously. "Well, well, who is this little cutie?" He asked, holding out a hand with his palm facing the ceiling to allow the small creature to land in his hand.

"That's Baby Tooth," Jack said. "She's one of Toothiana's fairies."

"Toothiana?" Emma asked curiously.

"The Tooth Fairy," he explained, smiling at the girl. "She and her fairies are the ones that collect the teeth you place under your pillow after you lose them and she leaves gifts behind."

The girl's eyes went wide with wonder, making him chuckle. "Oh, man, Toothiana and North would just love you to pieces."

"Who's North?" She asked.

"The big guy himself. Santa Claus."

Emma's eyes went very wide then. "He's really real?" She asked in awe.

Jack chuckled again. "As real as you and me, Emma," he said, gently tickling her neck, making her giggle. Baby Tooth was giggling as Balan was gently wiggling a finger into her small stomach, his smile warm.

"You're as cute as the Tims," he said, letting her up and she giggled again, nuzzling his face and he chuckled, returning the gentle nuzzle before she settled down in his collar, chirping happily. Chuckling again, he looked at Jack. "How are things with you and Bunny?"

"Really good, thanks," the Guardian of Fun said before looking serious. "Balan, I came here because I was hoping you could help me with something?"

"Of course," the magical being said. "What can I do for you?"

"Well, it's mine and Kathy's anniversary and...I want to make it a really memorable one for both our anniversary and Valentine's Day." He paused. "But...I don't really know how to dance."

Emma perked up and looked at Balan. "Maybe we can teach him, Balan?" She said. "Like how you and I danced at my school dance sometime ago."

"Ah, yes," he said with a nod. "If you'd like Jack, Emma and I can teach you."

"That would be great, thanks," Jack said. "Also...you mentioned how we all have special spots in Wonderworld, right? Like what our worlds would be like?"

"Yes," Balan said before smiling wider. "You're curious about your special place in Wonderworld?"

"Actually...could you do one that represents both me and Kathy?"

The Maestro smiled. "I can do that," he said. "She likes books, correct?"

"And snowglobes," Jack said. "Maybe like a large library filled with so many books that it goes on for a long time? With a reading area?"

Balan smiled again and winked before magic enveloped his hands. "Get ready," he said. "For this will be a day that neither you or Katherine will ever forget."

The Guardian of Fun smiled and Emma giggled as they watched the magic unfold before them.

At Katherine's bookstore...

Katherine was daydreaming about Jack and was putting a book away too, so lost in thought that she didn't hear anyone behind her until she turned and let out a scream of surprise as she bumped into someone that grabbed her. She began struggling, only to hear a familiar chuckle. "Easy, Katherine. It's only me."

She looked up to see the amused face of North. "North, you scared me," she said before looking embarrassed. "I...I didn't even hear you come in."

"You looked like you were deep in thought," Toothiana said with a smile. "Or someone was on your mind? Say...a certain white-haired boy?"

Katherine blushed at Toothiana's teasing. "Is that so hard to believe?" She asked.

North laughed. "No," he said. "But we didn't come here to tease you about that. We were actually hoping you could clear up a little mystery for us. Bunnymund mentioned something about a magical being that helped him and Jack before. Do you know who?"

"Oh, Balan," she said before going over and pulling out the book that would lead to Balan Wonderworld. She opened it to show the two a picture of the maestro and Toothiana swooned when she saw his teeth.

"Oh, my feathers! I love his smile!" She gushed.

North chuckled before nodding. "He is a powerful being," he said.

Katherine nodded. "He uses his magic to help others find the happiness that's deep inside them," she said. "And he can help two people at odds become friends again, like he did with Jack and Bunny."

"So that's what Bunny meant," Toothiana said, smiling. "He suggested that Balan could help Jack."

"Help him with what?" The Guardian of Imagination said.

"Oh, just a little something he's working on," North said with a chuckle. "But I'm afraid Tooth and I are sworn to secrecy."

"Bummer," Katherine said. "I was hoping for a hint."

The Guardian of Wonder laughed in amusement. "It'll be something that shows you just how much Jack loves you," he said kindly. "But that's all I'm saying on the matter."

Toothiana giggled. "You're going to love it," she said.

Katherine smiled at them. "If the way you two are acting is anything to go by, then I hope I will," she said.

Back at Balan's theater...

Jack watched as Balan twirled Emma gently and the girl giggled, trusting the maestro as he led her in the dance. He dipped her and then picked her up with his arm around her waist and spinning at a medium speed with one arm out for balance while the other held Emma securely. She held onto his shoulder with her left hand and held out her right hand gracefully before Balan gracefully set her down and they began moving in a waltz-like dance.

The Guardian of Fun could see how much trust went into the dance. Emma had no fear as she was lifted up by Balan over his head and he gently spun with her above his head. She giggled, but stayed still until he lowered her as he continued spinning, holding her bridal style and close to him as he lowered himself until he was spinning only on one foot with the other extended. He then gently moved his arm that was under Emma's knees so that it was extended above him and she kept one leg bend while extending the other one like a ballerina would as they stopped spinning and she extended her left hand out while her other arm stayed wrapped around Balan's shoulders as he bowed his head and she did the same, her forehead resting against his jaw to finish the pose.

Amazed at that, Jack clapped in appreciation. "Wow," he said. "Emma, I can see how much you trust Balan."

She nodded. "He is my big brother," she said with a smile.

"And trust is the key to dancing," Balan said gently. "Your partner must trust you and you must trust your partner."

The Guardian nodded and took a deep breath. "Okay," he said.

The maestro smiled. "By the way, it's ready," he said, gesturing to a door on the side and then opening it. Jack's eyes widened at seeing the library settings. There were bookshelves higher than he could see and it was a wide room with a cozy fireplace, chairs to sit down and read, and even a wide area that seemed perfect for dancing. The colors were gold, white, pink, red, and blue.

"Balan...this is amazing," Jack breathed out as he also saw the snowglobes in the room with beautiful scenes of winter.

"One more thing," Balan said, snapping his fingers. Jack noticed a glow coming from him and he looked to see his clothes had changed to his showman clothes from when he and Bunny had performed at the theater before.

"Thanks, Balan," the Guardian said before noticing the time. "Oh, I better go get Kathy. She's going to wonder where I am."

Emma giggled at that and he smirked at her before sending a very light, playful snow flurry at her that tickled her neck and made her giggle again before the flurry dissipated and Jack headed out to find his lady.

At the bookstore...

Katherine decided to get ready for whatever Jack had in mind and went to her closet, pulling out a yellow dress with gold accents that was off the shoulder and with yellow sheer sleeves. She changed into it before putting on a necklace that had a white tear-drop pendant and matching earrings in her ears before she did her hair, pulling part of it back to form a bun in her hair with small braids on either side. After she carefully fixed it in place, she placed a white feather with a large plume right above the bun and let the rest of her hair flow loose behind her to finish the look. Slipping on black flats, she looked at herself in the mirror before nodding and doing just a little bit of makeup. She had just grabbed her purse when a knock came at the door of the bookstore and she went to it, opening the door to let Jack in.

Jack felt his jaw drop at seeing his girlfriend. "Wow," he breathed out in awe. "You look as beautiful as Belle from that Beauty And The Beast movie."

She blushed. "Thank you," she said. "You look very dapper yourself."

He bowed to her before handing her a rose that was red, but had a light frost on the tips of the petals. "A lovely rose for my lovely girlfriend," he said, smiling as she accepted it with a smile. "And now, I have just the place for our date."

Curious, she took the hand he offered and they began flying until reaching Balan's theater. Emma was there and she smiled before opening the door. "Come on in," she said.

"Thanks, Emma," Jack said to the teenager before handing her a small box of chocolates. "For everything."

She smiled at him. "You're welcome, Jack. Have fun."

Katherine looked at her man, who smiled. "She and Balan both helped me today," he said as they reached Balan, who smiled as he opened another door and gestured them to head inside. Jack used his frost magic to give the blue suit that Balan was wearing some icy accents, to which the magician nodded in thanks as the Guardian of Fun led the Guardian of Imagination inside the room.

She gasped softly as she looked around the room, her eyes wide with wonder. "This is amazing," she breathed out.

"And it represents us," Jack said, smiling at her as soft music began to play. "May I have this dance, milady?"

She nodded and let him lead her, smiling at him and he picked her up with both arms securely around the back middle part of her upper legs and gently spun around. Her right hand was wrapped around his left shoulder to hold on while her left arm extended backwards and her left leg bent at the knee, all the while her eyes never leaving Jack's eyes.

"My, you're quite a dancer," she remarked.

"Balan and Emma taught me," he said. "Because I wanted to make both Valentine's Day and our anniversary something you wouldn't forget."

She smiled. "I'll never forget this," she said softly.

He smiled at her. "You're the other half of my heart, Kathy. The only one for me."

She blushed at his sweet words before he pulled her closer and kissed her. She kissed him back as she held onto him. "And you're my other half, Jack," she said softly.

"Happy Valentine's Day and anniversary, my lovely Guardian," he said.

"Happy Valentine's Day and anniversary, my mischievous, but handsome, Guardian," she replied.

Balan and Emma smiled as they saw this and looked at each other and nodded before moving quietly away, leaving the happy couple to their wonderful evening.

Happy Valentine's Day! :)
